Chapter Thirty-Nine: Life and Death (I)

The door creaked shut behind him, and Brandi grasped his wand nervously, and instinctively lowered himself slightly, leaning against the thick wall next to him, and began to look intently at the surrounding arrangement.

He'd been to the ballroom many times, but not once in the middle of the night.

Beauxbatons' ballroom is so large that it almost rivals the Great Hall of Hogwarts. Armchairs and small round tables at the edge of the rim for students to rest on the edge surround the huge oval-shaped dance floor in the center. To the right of the band's seat is a row of tables covered with blue flannel, where desserts and drinks are served.

What makes the auditorium different is that the decoration here is almost entirely made of various colored crystals. Crystal candlesticks, crystal chandeliers, and the ten-foot-tall crystal wall at the end is one of the most intimidating parts. Brandi is sure that if it's a major festival, this is the closest place to the fairytale world of Beauxbatons in the whole of Beauxbatons.

But now, it is a little more similar to the abyss under the Nine Shadows than the fairy tale world.

All the windows were covered by huge thick curtains, leaving no gaps. I don't know what magic tricks were attached to it, so that the bright moonlight outside the window didn't even bring the slightest trace of this space. After the door was closed, the inside of the auditorium was even darker, and even with the blessing of magic, Brandi could only faintly see something.

Dark vision improves the sensitivity of his optic nerve, but it doesn't mean he doesn't need any light source.

He fumbled his way to the doorknob on the door, but he didn't move. The rune cards on the gate are probably not as simple as helping the senior sister to take the door.

So Brandi calmed down, carefully moved a few steps aside, and whispered.

"Oriana. I've arrived, you can come out. ”

There was a moment of silence, and then Oriana's voice came from all directions, dispelling the last bit of heat in Brandy's body.

"Good evening, little sister Britney~"

It must have been a spell that could spread the sound, and Brandi listened closely, but couldn't find the direction of the source.

"What a surprise, I thought you'd use a fluorescent charm, and I'd look down on you a little bit in that case. It seems that he will be able to escape from the eight-eyed spider's lair all the way back with Padma alive, and it really won't be a matter of luck as rumored to be. Tsk, dark vision, absolutely huge magic, and superb Transfiguration - I remember you defeated a dragon with Transfiguration when you were in the first grade - no wonder you dared to break in by yourself without even using a protective charm, Britney Little Sister ~ No, it should be said, Little Brother Barton. You do have the confidence ......."

Brandi struggled to suppress his desire to scream. Although he had a vague sense of Orianna's strange attitude towards him when he set out from Hogwarts, he was also prepared for the possibility that she might be aware of his identity. But then I don't know why, Orianna didn't seem to want to dig deeper, and he gradually became relieved.

Now it seems that his identity has not only been exposed, but even his details are about to be quietly figured out.

Thinking of this, Brandi didn't bother to hide it anymore, and spoke straightforwardly.

"What do you want to tell me when you go to such great lengths to get me here? Is it so that I can help you hide your murder charges? What exactly are you here for? Is it for the Seven Seals? Did you write the threatening letter Audrey received? ”

Echoes collided back and forth in the empty ballroom, then slowly murmured. Deathly silence returned to the ballroom, and Brandi could only hear his own heartbeat and breathing.

"Oh, it's so embarrassing, it's not what a good man should do if you have no foreplay, but you don't even want to cover it up and say it to your big sister...... It's really hurting you in vain. After a moment, there was a helpless sigh in the ballroom, and Orianna pretended to sniffle and said mournfully, "It's rare that I have made up my mind to give my precious first time-"

"Put away your vixen disguise!" Brandi said irritablely. "Don't pretend to be pathetic to me here, I won't be grateful to you just because you let me go. You killed someone! and almost killed Wendy-senpai, Oriana! ”

"Not me."

Brandi was brought to the sore spot, and this time, the coquettish voice finally became stiff and irritated.

"I didn't do it." She repeated.

"Of course I know you didn't do it!" Brandi was also roaring, "But the monster you brought hurt people, whether you ordered it to do it at the time or not, what difference is it from doing it yourself!" I don't know what you want, but it's all over - stop it...... Restrain the guy you brought. ”

His bare shoulders trembled, as if he were making a very difficult decision.

"I can promise you that I won't tell anyone your secret."

After a long time, a girl's self-deprecating chuckle suddenly came from the dance hall. "Heh......"

"What are you laughing at?" Brandi asked sheepishly.

"It seems that my father is right, big sister, I am indeed a weak guy, and I can affect my emotions because of such a boring joke. I'm really not qualified as a delivery person......" Oriana's tone was unpredictable, but one thing was certain, she wasn't happy. "But unfortunately, Barton, I probably don't need you to keep any secrets."

The estranged salutation made Brandi immediately wary. "What do you mean by this, this matter has something to do with the porter?"

"Come play a game with me... Beat me... In order to get everything you want from my mouth. "If you win, I can fulfill all your requests—don't you have a lot to ask me?" Beat me, and I'll answer you to any intimate questions. ”

Game? Brandi was stunned.

"And what if I lose?"

"Lost? Heh......"

The long tail note gave him a hint of a bad feeling.

"If you lose, you don't have to pay anything, I will also tell you everything I know, and then correct the mistakes I made before and never do it again." In Brandi's fuzzy world, it seems that something is changing rapidly. "Anyway, the dead man will definitely keep it a secret for me."

"What?!"

Suddenly, a white flame burst out of thin air from the center of the dance floor, and the flames formed Oriana's face, floating in the air.

"So, the game is about to begin."

——————

Brandi crouched behind a chair, clutching his mouth and nose and gasping for breath, the warm liquid sliding down his neck and into his heaving chest.

Half of his face was burning in flames, and he carefully reached out and touched it, but all he touched was the rolled up wounds and slimy blood, which was hideous and terrifying.

Just a few dozen seconds ago, he was simply treating Oriana's killing game as a bad joke, how could a game without even rules be played.

But when the flame of the human face turned into a spell that slashed across Brandy's cheek, which caught him off guard, bringing up a puddle of warm blood, he didn't think so anymore.

Oriana: She's not kidding. She really wanted to kill herself!

"Oriana! Calm down! ”

Before he could say the second sentence, Brandy's last syllable hadn't even been spit out, and on the back of the chair in front of him, a piece of cardboard stuck to it emitted a faint light, and a string of magic words jumped out of the paper, forming a palm-sized magic array, and a chill emanated from it.

"Helmet—"

It's too late! He subconsciously swallowed the rest of the spell into his stomach and rolled backwards in embarrassment, the sharp icicles piercing straight through the lilting hem of his skirt and piercing straight into the wall behind him.

"Iron Armor? Are you looking down on me? Barton! ”

Another spell flew in from a distance, knocking a deep pit into the floor tiles next to Brandy. It wasn't the magic text on the paper, but the silent spell that Oriana chanted with her wand, and the moment the spell was cast, there was a glimmer of light that seemed to illuminate the frost-covered face of Oriana in the corner of the ballroom.

"I said, you'd better not take any chances......" Oriana said coldly, "If you still think of me as a senior sister who takes care of you on weekdays—"

"There will be no corpses to die."

As soon as the words fell, Brandi's hair, which had just gotten up, stood on end. In his perception, an invisible magic was surging wildly on a card pasted with a certain floor tile next to him. He tensed and instinctively lunged to the other side, knocking down the round table next to him with his hands, blocking it behind him. He had only run five or six feet when he heard a "boom" and a cluster of fiery red light lit up. Suddenly there was an explosion, and countless egg-sized stones scattered in the area where he had just stood, raining down on the round table, making a thumping sound.

"You're crazy! It's going to bring the whole castle here! Brandi held his head and roared as he lay on the ground.

"I'm sorry, Barton. The entire room is painted with soundproofing, along with Beauxbatons Castle's own excellent defensive barriers. Even if you blow up the ballroom now, no one will notice it. "The sound echoed through the empty ballroom, resonating with the echoes of the explosion, maddening." This is the last warning, win or die! ”
