Chapter Seventy-One: The Secret Code
Guarded by two Aurors, five big and three thick, Brandi mechanically moved his legs and followed Scrimgeot out of the office and into a hallway with doors on both sides.
Along the way, Scrimgeour walked in front alone, carrying Brandy's box and wand, he had no intention of talking to Brandy, and was as silent as a rough stone.
This made Brandi's heart beat faster than before.
You know, he hadn't even been able to get out of the whirling furnace hell when he suddenly found himself with strong ropes tied to his hands, and he was being dragged out by two Aurors. It all happened so quickly and so inexplicably that Brandi could barely say a word - what the hell, how could he suddenly be targeted by the Aurors?
Could it be that the fact that he deceived the Ministry of Magic to sneak into Beauxbatons in disguise has been exposed?!
"Boom."
Brandi swallowed hard. This guess made his calves and stomachs tremble nervously, and Dumbledore's instructions before leaving still remembered clearly, if the Ministry of Magic found out that his identity was fake, he would be sent to Azkaban!
But this ...... But it doesn't make sense!
Even if Beauxbatons' side had already discovered the abnormality due to the medical team's physical examination, hadn't Dumbledore already negotiated with Madame Maxim in private to cover up the matter! How did the English Aurors, who were thousands of miles away, still know about this?
Brandi was sweating profusely, and watched as Scrimgeour stopped and greeted someone.
"Good afternoon, Kingsley." He said, "How's your investigation going, do you have any clues?" ”
The guy he spoke to was a tall, strong, dark-skinned wizard with a black and white markinged hat on his head and a large golden earring on one ear. The voice sounded deep.
"Unfortunately, the last time the search party found him was on a beach in Forth Bay where he appeared to have come ashore and dried his clothes on a fire. Then he went all the way south, towards the southern highlands, his anti-tracking ability was very strong, and the smell and traces disappeared completely in a forest, and even the tracking charm could not find him. But one thing is certain......"
Kingsley looked behind Scrimgeour and saw that Scrimgeour didn't seem to be hiding the conversation, so he said. As he had repeated in his dreams, slowly, he was moving little by little towards Hogwarts. You're right, we really need to. ”
He?
The endless conversation between the two seemed to bring Brandy's sanity back to his senses a little, and Brandi stared at the two Aurors in confusion, pondering their words. Who do the Aurors seem to be after whom?
"It's funny how a man who doesn't even have a wand can swim hundreds of miles back from the North Sea to land, and then swagger out from under our noses!" Scrimgeour's voice suppressed anger, "How many times have I told Fudge that the former Death Eaters who surrendered to us are useless! I knew with my ass that it was a spy from the Ministry of Magic leading the way! I might be able to find some new clues—"
As he spoke, he glanced in Brandi's direction.
"Thank you, Kingsley, go back and get some rest. Let your people expand their search, he is hiding alone in the mountains with no clothes and food, and will definitely find a way to find supplies in the surrounding Muggle towns. Once you find something, report it immediately, and I will personally lead the team. ”
Kingsley nodded to Scrimgeour with a grim expression, glanced at Brandy's wizarding robe again, then turned and pushed the door open and walked to the side room.
"Uh, Mr. Scrimgeur......"
At this point, Brandi spoke. He was still nervous, but the conversation he had just had made him a little curious, and listening to Scrimgourge's tone, it seemed that he didn't want to catch himself for his disguise to deceive the Ministry of Magic. This somewhat gave him a little more confidence. "I heard you mention Hogwarts, what's going on over there?"
Scrimgeour stared at Brandi until the hairs stood on end.
"It's none of your business, Miss Spears, don't rush to excuse yourself, if there's anything we can leave to the interrogation room and talk slowly. If you think that a single Occlumency technique can stop the Aurors, you are very wrong. ”
He waved his hand, motioning for the Aurors behind him to follow. They led Brandy through the hallway, pushing open a heavy oak door and into a dimly lit hallway. Brandi looked around, and seemed to see an elevator on the other side of the corner, showing the second floor - but when he came to the Ministry of Magic last year, he remembered that the Ministry of Magic was supposed to be underground?
As we walked, the room next to me became more and more deserted, and there was finally no one else in the corridor. They came to the end of the hallway, where there was an old wooden door with a faded brass sign nailed to it: Auror Torture Chamber.
!!!
Torture?!!!
Seeing the name of the room, Brandi's face turned pale, and all he thought of was the scene he had seen on TV about soldiers being tortured after being captured during World War II. So he struggled desperately in a panic...... The lines of the officer begging for mercy in the TV series came out of his mouth naturally.
"What are you going to do to me? Let me go! I have made a contribution to the friendship between Britain and France! I've shed my blood for Hogwarts! You can't do this to me! I want to see Dumbledore, I want to see Dumbledore!!! ”
"Alright, of course you'll see Dumbledore......" Scrimgeour was amused by Brandy's strange behavior, and even softened his tone a little. I had already sent an owl to him before you came, and he had always been concerned about our protections, so he had to come and see what would have happened to Hogwarts if it weren't for us! ”
With that, he pushed open the door of the torture chamber and stepped inside.
————————
After seeing the scene inside the room, Brandi couldn't calm down anyway.
It was a spacious room, with no windows, and the lighting depended only on a few torches in the corners. The light of the torches was dim and eerie, leaving a twisting and dancing shadow on the walls, which was really creepy to look at.
An iron fence divided the room into two parts, on one side of what was no doubt a long interrogation table and a few chairs, and on the other side was a tall bench with chains and shackles scattered on the ground around it.
To Brandy's dismay, there were already several people seated at the long table, and a short, fat wizard sat in the middle—he was short and fat, with messy gray hair and an emerald green wizard's hat. Brandi had seen this guy right in front of Dumbledore's Headmaster's office.
It's Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic! But why is he here?
Seeing Brandi being brought in, Fudge had a satisfied smile on his face.
"Sit." He stretched out his hand and pointed to the bench opposite, which looked dangerous from any angle, and Brandi sat down tremblingly with his hands tied, and the two Aurors stood behind him.
"Now that the person is there, we should be able to get started." Fudge said as Scrimgeour took Brandy's luggage through the bars and sat down next to him. "Are you ready, Miss Spears?"
"No, wait a minute." Brandi hurriedly said, "Isn't it strange that you guys have brought me here all of a sudden, and then just started the interrogation on your own initiative?" I still can't figure out which law I accidentally broke it! I don't think I've done anything wrong at all! ”
"That's what everybody here says at first!" Fudge glared at him, and beside him, Scrimgeour pulled out a red quill from his bosom, similar to the polygraph quill that had been identified before going to Beauxbatons. He muttered something, and the pen floated.
"Actually, we've got letter control on Hogwarts, and I don't think you've been in Beauxbatons all this time." "We started out just to see if anyone was sending any dangerous packages to Hogwarts – but we didn't expect to catch a big fish. Miss Spears, can you tell me now who is the man who sent you eleven anonymous letters in a row with the ball bird? ”
The expression on Brandi's face became quite exciting.
"Mr. Fudge, what are you talking about? And...... Someone would send me a letter? The recipient is really Britney Spears??? ”
"Are you pretending to be crazy, Miss Spears! Know that there are lying-detecting runes everywhere, and lying will only add to your sin! Fudge yelled as he stood up and turned his head to look at Scrimgeour's quill. If you're still so obsessed—"
He stopped as if choking, the quill of the lie detector shook slightly, and then came to a complete stillness. Scrimgeour shook his head at Fudge and whispered something.
"I see, Occlumen......cy," he slowly sat back in place in embarrassment, "you can master such a profound skill at such a young age, your talent is really good." No wonder he chose you to act as his Hogwarts eyeliner. ”
Scrimgeour calmly explained to a bewildered Brandy. "The Ball Bird is a rare and magical creature that can easily disappear from any corner of the world and emerge from another, and only a handful of powerful wizards have the ability to domesticate the Ball Bird as a messenger. You could think of this as an unlimited apparition - anyway, the magic we had placed around Hogwarts interfered with the Ballbird's location and intercepted the letters it carried. ”
He stared at Brandi with blazing eyes.
"We certainly wouldn't sit idly by by intercepting eleven letters in a row that didn't have a sender, so we examined the contents of the letters according to the principles of the Protocol for the Disposal of Wizards' Personal Belongings in Emergencies, and found something incomprehensible. In light of the recent Azkaban prison break, we believe that the contents of the letter are suspicious, so—"
"So you arrested me without any evidence?" Brandi interrupted him mercilessly. "Are you kidding? Even the Muggle police have to pay attention to evidence when arresting people! ”
"If you really have to wait until the evidence comes out, Potter may have already had an accident!" Fudge's roar stunned Brandy, "We have to act early!" You'd better tell everything you know! ”
"Potter, you mean Harry Potter?" Brandi listened to him and immediately took his words. He was taken aback by Fudge's words and realized that things didn't seem as simple as he had imagined.
"There could be any Potter at Hogwarts, I think you're just-"
"I see. I cooperate. ”
"What?" Fudge's eyes widened, and he said in surprise.
"If there's anything I know, I'll tell you. If you don't believe me, you can use the Truth Elixir on me, and I'll allow you to do that - if it's really about Harry's name. Brandi stopped and said calmly, "But before you do that, can you show me the eleven letters?" Also, tell me, who is the person you are talking about trying to harm Harry? Is it the Sirius Black who escaped from Azkaban? ”
The adult wizards in front of him discussed for a while, and as if they had reached an agreement, Scrimgeour raised his wand and untied the rope spell from Brandy's hand. A stack of letters floated lightly on the table and flew towards Brandy. He took the letter and looked at it carefully—he soon realized that although it was a letter, it was nothing more than a small note inside the envelope.
The cover was almost entirely blank, except for the bottom corner, scrawled in barely legible handwriting, with the words 'Britney Spears' scrawled. In addition, the back of the envelope is painted with a small '3' in red ink.
"The mark on the back is marked by us, in the order in which it was sent." Seeing that Brandi was in a daze, Scrimgeour said patiently. Brandi no longer dwelled on the strange envelope, and pulled out the note.
“…… 4-11? ”
To his surprise, the note was written with something that confused him. He opened several other letters, and found that only one with the label '11' was written in English, except for one that was written in a different format '5.23.10-40'. And when he saw this in English, he immediately understood the sender's intentions, and why the officials of the Ministry of Magic would associate themselves with breaking the law and committing crimes.
"Remember our promise, and it's time for you to keep your promise. Man in the woods. ”
