Chapter 47: Minutes of the World on the Clouds (Part II) (6th Update)

(Final chapter of this volume)

The main country profiles are as follows:

1. The Greksia Empire

The Grexia Empire was a vast feudal empire ruled by the Grexia family. The supreme ruler of the empire is the emperor, the throne is hereditary, and the country is ruled by hereditary nobles of all ranks.

Although the country's royal family claimed to be the blood of the founding emperor, in fact, because the imperial throne of the empire changed several times, the royal family that now ruled the empire was little more than an obscure branch of the earlier imperial family. After receiving the throne, out of concern for their own legitimacy, they ordered all "Grexia" in the country to change their surnames. Later, they stipulated that when the new emperor ascended the throne, distant relatives other than the emperor's three generations must also change their surnames, so that the family would only have a strong main line.

These practices pose a lot of problems. The contradiction between the nobles and the emperor, the main vein and the branch veins is very prominent. In order to stabilize the throne, the emperor had to choose his best heirs as his heirs, and the male-first primogeniture law existed in name only. In recent decades, the imperial family has barely held power, but faced the dilemma of insufficient heirs. Today, apart from the current emperor, Emperor Dietford III himself, only his two daughters and a nephew are left in the royal family of the whole empire. The emperor had confirmed that his only nephew was his rightful heir and adopted the nephew as his adopted son. The lack of royal staff has become one of the most serious threats to the empire.

In order to suppress the local aristocracy, the empire established a relatively strong central army.

Unlike other great powers, the Empire has a special spellcaster called the Mystic Warrior. This spellcaster relies on the power of the bloodline, and most of them are imperial nobles. Because they are particularly good at fighting, the Secret Warriors have become the most elite force in the Empire's armies at all levels. For hundreds of years, the Empire has repeatedly advertised that the Mystic Warrior is the cornerstone of the Empire, and the few commoners who become the Mystic Warrior will immediately receive nobility. This increased the unity of the Empire's aristocracy and allowed the Empire to maintain a comparative advantage over the commoners for a long time.

The empire did not traditionally prohibit the internal wars of the nobility, and a large number of secret warriors died from internal strife. The more powerful emperors used their personal prestige, and they were often powerful secret warriors, to stop the nobles from civil wars. In recent years, the Empire has repeatedly preached that "all Secret Warriors should serve the entire Empire and not a single Lord", which has had some effect. The number of mystical warriors in the empire has increased, but the level of elite has decreased.

The capital of the empire is in Phoenix, located on the shores of Lake Rhodes.

2, Okad Federation

The predecessor of the Okad Federation was the Okad Confederacy, a league of small nations formed by the legendary mage Okad. Okad's confederate states varied from electoral commercial republics to hereditary principalities and even counties. Later, the Confederacy developed into a nominally unified entity, but the internal chaos did not change much, with various "states" coexisting at the same time, and civil wars were frequent.

The supreme leader of Okad is the Speaker. The Speaker of the Diet is for life, and after the death of the previous Speaker, he is elected from within the leadership of the major member states, which is also known as the electoral system. Okade's power was decentralized, and the parliaments of the member states had thwarted the Speaker's attempts to become emperor more than once.

The current Speaker, Nicholas Best, is a warlord who seized the position of Speaker through war during the Civil War. Under his rule, Okade's confederates were somewhat weakened. He moved the capital of Okad to the city of Floating Sands, which he had personally founded, in the Great Central Desert of Okad.

3. The legal state of Errios

The predecessor of the Kingdom of Elrios was the Kingdom of Elrios, founded by the legendary mage Elrios. Later, the kingdom's mages seized power and established a system of supremacy of spellcasters throughout the country.

The supreme body of the French State is the Council of Legendary Mages, and the Chief and Speaker is the supreme leader of the French State. This position is generally held by the most powerful mages in the country. Fan En, the current chief lawyer of the French state, is in a humble position, but the political situation of the French state is still calm.

The people of Erios were very knowledge-oriented, so the system of the French state was fully embraced. However, despite having the largest number of mages, the territory of the Legalist is the smallest of the three powers.

The French power has its political capital, Empedocles, which is home to the Council of Legendary Mages, but high-level spellcasters rarely go there, and are even forgotten by some ordinary people. The economic and cultural capital of Thales is the most prosperous city in France, the economic and cultural center, and in recent years it has also begun to move closer to the political center.

In addition to this, there are also a large number of ungoverned barren areas on the continent. Even if these areas are claimed as their own territory, they are not suitable for human habitation, and even if a few tribes exist, it is difficult to establish effective administration.

Finally, thanks to the "flying arts", it was possible to accurately map the Seerland region. Despite this, maps are imperfect in the vast and sparsely populated ice fields, deserts, and mountains. Most of the population areas are inhabited by four distinct seasons, while the harsh environment of the no-man's land still accounts for more than a quarter of the total area of the continent.

4. Population, Production, Culture and Education

The exact population of the continent is unknown. Different researchers have different estimates of the total population, with estimates by scholars in the last hundred years ranging from a minimum of 300 million to a maximum of 900 million. Agriculture is highly developed on the continent of Seeland, spellcasters generally have power, and have used magic to eliminate natural disasters that affect food production, and harvests rarely fail in most areas. The development of agriculture has also improved people's diet. The food culture is diverse, and each region has its own specialty.

During the period of stability, most governments on the continent of Seylan placed great emphasis on household registration and identity registration. These data serve as the basis for population estimates. However, population hiding still exists in many areas, as well as uncountable Buraku tribes, including elven and dwarven tribes who are reluctant to disclose their population.

Different costumes are popular in different parts of the continent of Seerland. As more low-level mages assisted in the survival of costumes, many new costumes were invented, and one that was popular in one region might be considered fancy dress in another. The caster mostly wears robes of various colors, and affects the dressing habits of ordinary people other than the caster.

Animal-powered vehicles, especially horse-drawn carts and ox-carts, are the most common modes of transportation on the continent. In a hurry, casters will choose to use teleportation spells directly, teleporting directly from one place to another. A large number of carrier pigeons were trained for communication.

Gold, silver, copper, and other special precious metals are the currency used in the continent of Seerland. Two years before the text was written, the three great powers of the French State, the Empire, and the Confederation had passed an agreement that the gold coins issued by the three powers should be of uniform weight and fineness to facilitate trade. Despite the opposition, the agreement greatly facilitated trade between countries. Only a few regions have banknotes in pass. Some merchant organizations issue bills of exchange that can be exchanged for silver money, but they are strictly monitored by various countries.

In terms of law, each country has its own code of law that is in force internally. This has created a phenomenon in which it is difficult to impose effective sanctions on a wanted criminal who has fled abroad. Some aristocrats would also want criminals on their own, sometimes on false charges. This "wanted" was often not recognized by other nobles.

Incarceration, hard labour and payment are the most basic ways of punishing criminals. The criteria for the execution of the death penalty vary from region to region, and many of them are extremely cruel.

Including the most culturally developed French state of Errios, there is no compulsory education on the continent. The Church runs nursery schools for boys and girls of appropriate age to teach basic writing and arithmetic, as well as knowledge of the faith. Some nobles and mages also set up schools. These schools are very inexpensive or non-existent, covering almost all the cities on the continent and more than half of the rural areas. Considering the simplicity of spelling in the lingua franca of Seerland, students quickly grasp the most basic reading skills. The aristocracy and wealthy families were more inclined to hire tutors.

Even so, the illiteracy rate on the continent remains high. The ร‰rios Powers were still illiterate about 25 percent, while the Empire had an illiteracy rate of 40 percent. In some areas, it is common for only one or two people to be literate in a village.

In large cities, there are generally colleges for young students, mainly teaching humanities, theology or military knowledge, but also a few natural sciences in nature. Most faculties are willing to admit both male and female students. Girls' schools have been built in some places. The Solidar Academy in Elrios is the only academy that trains mages.

There are no actual universities on the continent of Seerland. High-end academic research in the mainland is mainly carried out by mages. With a few exceptions, most teachers use the most traditional method of teaching, "one teacher and several students". Most of the mages are extremely strict in selecting their students, and even if they are selected, only one student will always have access to the teacher's full knowledge. In some cases, mages conduct research in other disciplines, or sponsor research in other disciplines.

In any case, spellcasters are Seerlan's most respected profession. Even in Errios, which is the most prone to casters, casters make up less than one percent of the population.

Libraries were common in the major cities of the continent, and the use of the printing press was widespread in the French and Imperial powers.

Literary creation is considered an act of elegance on the continent of Seerland, and common literary genres include poetry, prose, and comedy. Novels are less popular. Playwrights are well respected, while the status of actors has only gradually improved in recent years. Excellent musicians and painters were the guests of honor of the aristocracy.

Although there have been several different calendars throughout history, all the countries on the continent of Seeran have now adopted the new calendar, the calendar invented by Elrios. This calendar provides for twelve months of the year, thirty days each, with intercalary months every six years.

On the back of the manuscript, Speaker Nicholas Best wrote: "It's funny and it's honest. Some novel perspectives are worth noting. Also, it's better if you talk casually. โ€
