014: The Evil "Sorcerer"

Jim. O'Brien woke up in a nightmare, and the expression on Bird's face was getting more and more ugly. This guy now dreams of being abandoned by the team, just like the 76ers abandoned him back then.

After decades of coaching, O'Brien didn't have much to offer. When people mention O'Brien, the most they can say is "that guy isn't bad." But absolutely no one will say "that guy is pretty good".

When O'Brien took office last year, he was tasked with leading the Pacers to the playoffs. But now that the second season has passed, his work has not improved. The pressure on him has reached its peak, and it seems that it will be crushed at any moment.

Looking out the window at the glare of the sun, O'Brien rubbed his face in an effort to make himself more sober. Today's nap, I slept a little too long.

"Knock knock!" Just then, there was a sharp knock on the door of O'Brien's room.

"Who!" O'Brien sat on the bed and asked loudly, O'Brien hadn't had a good night's sleep since 2009.

"It's me, Dennis." Outside the door, Henson's old nemesis, Dennis. Posey's voice.

"What's wrong?"

"That scout, the guy I told you about, Henson. Joe. When he arrives, will you see him? ”

O'Brien muttered impatiently, then put on his clothes and opened the door.

"Give him all the materials for the joint training, and tell him not to be late tomorrow and meet in the restaurant on time." After the O'Brien Cup opened, he first explained his work, and then asked the person, "That guy, where is he?" ”

O'Brien doesn't have much prejudice against Henson, and he certainly doesn't have a good impression. After all, when he was a data analyst before, Henson's low work ability made O'Brien angry. The formulas he spoke of often made O'Brien think he was back in the math classroom of his college days. On top of that, those formulas don't help the team and his lineup at all!

It was O'Brien who paid his way to the former president of the Pacers, Donnie Brown. Walsh complained that Henson had only been assigned to the scouting department. The reason is very simple, O'Brien was upset when he saw the Chinese American who didn't know basketball at all. Being a head coach is under a lot of pressure, and O'Brien can't stand it every day in front of a person who has a big look.

But unexpectedly, after Bird came to power, Henson did a good job in the scouting department. Bird even directly brushed aside the coaching staff and directly connected with Henson.

So O'Brien hasn't had much contact with Henson this season. He wanted to see how the Chinese nerd at the beginning, and now He De can become a celebrity around Bird.

By the time O'Brien and Percy descended down the hall, Henson had already made the little girl at the front desk of the hotel smile. O'Brien was a little surprised, this was still the same Henson who used to talk to men. Joe?

"Oh, look, the old wizard is here." Seeing O'Brien and Posey, Henson ended the conversation with the girl at the front desk with such a sentence. The girl glanced at O'Brien, who had gray temples, and then lowered her head to cover her snicker, this guy really looked a little like those wizards who pretended to be ghosts in the Middle Ages.

God knows what O'Brien was shaped into in Henson's mouth.

"Dear Jim, dear Percy! Long time no see, old guys! As O'Brien and Percy approached, Henson shouted in a deliberately exaggerated manner, and then hugged them warmly.

Posey wanted to use his role as a coach to give Henson a dismount, but he was a little overwhelmed by Henson's sudden enthusiasm.

"Henson, did a good job in the scouting department. It seems that you are indeed better suited to this kind of on-the-go job. O'Brien's tone wasn't friendly, but it was much better than Percy's viper.

"Yes, after all, I don't like to sit in my office and watch my belly grow bigger day by day." After Henson finished speaking, he easily hung the luggage on Percy's hand.

Before Percy could react to what was going on, he became the goddamn scout's waiter!

"Waiter, waiter!" Percy yells angrily and asks the waiter to help with his luggage. He gritted his teeth and looked at Henson, who was walking ahead, but Henson turned his head and winked at Percy.

"Let's go, we'll take you to your room. I hope you can rest soon, we have a lot of work to do tomorrow. O'Brien said, looking at Henson.

The position of a scout may not sound like a big deal, but it requires no less from a person than a data analyst. After all, many scouts are professionals who have been working in basketball for many years and have a rich understanding of the game. And what about Henson? O'Brien knew that Henson may have a smart mind, but he was always just a layman.

He couldn't believe that such a guy had been reborn after going to the scouting department. Maybe Henson can fool Bird with a patchwork of scouting reports and puzzling data. But O'Brien assured that at a joint tryout, where scouts need to make judgment and analysis on the spot, Henson can't fool himself!

"Henson, the joint trial starts tomorrow. You know, this year is a recognized draft year, the quality of the rookies is very average, and our picks are even more average! Such a tricky situation, I'd love to hear what you think. As he walked, O'Brien asked, if this was his first test for Henson.

Percy chuckled to himself, he wanted to see what Henson could do with it.

"Draft boys? I always thought that only pseudo-fans and experts who didn't understand bullshit would believe this claim. Oh, I'm not offended, Jim. Henson waved his hand and smiled sheepishly, but O'Brien was almost bleeding from rage.

2009 was a draft year, and it's almost universally accepted in the basketball world. There are even quite a few media outlets saying that this will be the "smallest" draft in NBA history.

After all, judging from the current situation, there are only Griffin, DeRozan, and Terrence in the lotto area. Williams and Gerald. Henderson's physicality can be considered explosive. The so-called draft is the first thing to look at potential, and the first thing to look at potential is the body. A player can learn to shoot, learn to pass, and learn a variety of techniques. But the body can't be learned.

In the eyes of the outside world, this year's draft is indeed not very good. But for Henson, who can see the potential of the player firsthand, the '09 draft is not "small" at all. This edition is not just James. Harden and Stephen. Curry has two super perverts with a potential value of A+, and DeRozan, Holiday , Griffin, and Darren. Collison, Teague and many other All-Star level players.

This draft may not be the best, but it can never be the "smallest".

"Oh? Mr. Henson's view is indeed different. You mean, we have a lot of good options for this draft? O'Brien waved his hand indifferently, a layman is a layman!

"We don't have a lot of options, but they are not a lot. Holiday and Teague and Collison are all excellent No.1 positions, and as far as I know, the team is in need of a No.1 player who can handle the heavy lifting right now. ”

"Number one? I thought we needed a big guy like Hanspur. After all, this season, our interior defense has not been good enough. T.J. Ford is old, Troy Murphy doesn't have much rim protection, Hibbert? Hibbert is good for nothing, he's as slow as a snail. What is the purpose of the draft? It's reinforcement, Mr. Henson. O'Brien said, and the three of them got on the elevator and continued to talk.

"Really? The Trail Blazers missed out on Michael for the same reason. Jordan. Henson still had a confident smile, as if he hadn't been bluffed by O'Brien at all.

"Hahahaha, let's wait and see, Henson. Look at the 13th pick, how can you pick Jordan! "Now O'Brien is sure that Henson is simply a charlatan who makes a name for himself and is clever in his words.

This guy is no different from before, just more playful haha.

"Alright, Henson. I'll have an appointment with a few reporters later, so I won't disturb your rest. By the way, before you rest, Mr. Percy will give you all the information about all the rookies in this joint tryout, don't work too hard, rest early. O'Brien waved his hand and returned to his room.

It's not hard to imagine how thick the information on all the rookies in the joint tryout is, Henson. O'Brien is trying to rest himself, it's obvious that he's playing prestige.

But Henson is not in pain, outlining a whole basketball world in a bunch of numbers is already one of Henson's pleasures.

But this O'Brien seems to be almost crushed by the tremendous pressure. He became very irrational and tried his best to consolidate his authority in the team. But the more he did this, the more unflattering he became.

Henson was thinking that the person who was in the wrong position might not be himself, but O'Brien, the "wizard" coach. So what about breaking into the coaching staff yourself? Henson felt as if he was no longer a fantasy.
