【Free】【Gaiden】The Song of the Seven Rods by Palamedes
Note: This article is of a "drama within a play" nature.
It is rumored to have been the work of a historian of Errios who had settled in the Black Floating City.
However, no one knows why he knows so many secrets.
***************
"Mister Palamedes passed on his seven artifact staffs to his seven students.
The infinite power and wisdom of the Black Floating City are condensed here.
Glory to Mr. Palamedes, the great Lord of the Black. “
Staff of Akansus
Acanthus
["It's like a spike."] ”】
Of all the most powerful staffs known in the world, the most mysterious and perhaps the most terrifying is the Staff of Acanthus. The great Lord of the Dark, Palamedes, forged this spike-like staff of wonder, but called it by an unrelated name, in an attempt to disguise its true power.
(a)
At the beginning of the Cloud Age, the Bottomless Abyss was shattered by the disappearance of many gods, and the demons entrenched here lost most of their power. Realizing that they were going to become mortal, the Demon Lords panicked, and some of them cast great magic that should not have been present in this era, sealing themselves in a static stream of time in an attempt to escape death. And they succeeded...... It almost worked.
(b)
Two thousand years have passed, and the remaining bottomless abyss has gradually collapsed. The palace of one of the demon lords coincided with the main plane in the chaotic flow of space, and became a part of the main plane. All of his men have long since disappeared, and only one of his breaths that is frozen in still time remains. He had no idea what was going on outside, and he didn't know that the towering gates of his palace were under the gaze of mortals.
(c)
For a long time, many adventurers have ventured into the Longmian Mountains in search of treasure. As the ruins were gradually excavated, only the ruins remained, and few strong people set foot in this desolate land. But in recent days, caravans have often encountered terrible storms in the mountains, and when the storm has passed, they are transported to other corners of the continent. No one knew about this fashion, which was the result of the chaos of the spatial flow. Eventually, the French powers in the north and the empire in the south sent a joint investigation team to try to find out the truth.
(iv)
"We walked for seven days and seven nights in the Longmian Mountains, and finally found the location of that ruin. Each of us was very excited, but we didn't know if what awaited us was the wonder of the Creator or the terrifying demon that devoured us all. ”
—964 AH, Notes of John Palamedes, Apprentice of the Wizard
(5)
"In this horrific demonic resurgence event, only Palamedes survived. According to Palamedes' testimony, his teacher, the archmage Jenn, sacrificed himself to inflict heavy blows on the ancient demon, and Palamedes personally delivered the final blow to the demon. Now the Council of Mages is assessing the possibility that Palamedes lied. Once Palamedes' honesty is confirmed, Palamedes will be released. ”
- 965 New Calendar, Elrios' investigative report on the resurrection of demons
(f)
Palamedes told the truth, but he didn't. The investigation team accidentally awakens the sealed demon, and after the teacher's attempt to kill the demon fails, Palamedes does use his incredible potential to kill the dying demon lord. But he told the people that the demon's corpse was reduced to ashes after death, which was pure falsehood. He took what he thought was the most important item from the demon: a drop of heart's blood, and incinerated the rest of the body. He carefully treasured this drop of demonic blood in the hope that he could use it in the future. He quickly made his goal clear: to "forge" it into a powerful staff that all mages dream of.
(g)
In order to forge the staff, Palamedes searched for a material that could fully hold the power of demonic blood, and this search took twenty years. Eventually, he fixed his eyes on an extraterrestrial meteorite, also from before the Cloud Age. According to Palamedes, the nature of this piece of meteorite is perfectly matched with the blood of demons, and if the two are fused, the perfect staff will be born. There was only one obstacle that stood in the way of Palamedes, and that was that the amount of meteorite was too small to make a scepter.
(viii)
Eventually, Palamedes decided to leave the decision to fate. He melted the meteorite, fused it with the demon's blood, and incorporated the strongest spell magic he knew. Legend has it that when the staff was cast, a terrifying, thunderous voice echoed over Elrios. Only Palamedes himself knew, it was the heartbeat of the Demon Lord. And when all the dust fell to the ground and the staff finally took shape, Palamedes was almost stunned: what he had forged was not a staff at all, but a long black nail several feet long.
(ix)
One thing needs not be doubted: this black spike, for all its oddities, is a powerful tool for spell magic. Palamedes hid its true material and gave it an unrelated, rather deceptive name: the Staff of Akansus. Palamedes had many powerful staffs, but he had never used the Staff of Acanthus, not even a trial. The Devil's Scepter was hidden, quietly waiting for its destined true owner.

Scalul, the Murmuring Staff of the Dead
Skull
["The head of the staff is like a skull shrouded in mist. ”】
No one knows the true origin of this staff except the great Palamedes himself. Some say that it was made by Palamedes from the skull of a demon lord who he killed with his own hands when he was a teenager; It is also said that the skull head of the staff is the property of the demon lord; There is also a theory that Palamedes plotted against his teacher, claiming that the demon lord had done it, but instead made the teacher's skull into this evil staff. All of these claims may be false, but there is no doubt about it: the staff is one of the most evil magical objects in the world, and every time it appears, it is destined to cause terrible disasters.
(a)
Legend has it that before the Black Floating City was founded, Palamedes invited the descendants of the White City to his treasure vault, where they displayed their collections. By chance, a young and promising mage found a strange skull in the treasure trove, shrouded in a gray mist.
"Mr. Palamedes," he asked, "what is this?" ”
"You shouldn't know," replied Palamedes, "please don't touch it." It has nothing to do with you. ”
Palamedes' flippant answer only piqued the apprentice's curiosity. And this was the first tragedy caused by the Staff of Scaloo.
(b)
"The thief who infiltrated the treasure trove has been confirmed to be the young apprentice Rudolph. As for the cause of his death, we believe that he came into contact with some extremely dangerous magical item in the vault, but did not take precautions. As for the reason for hiding deadly contraband in the vault, we will ask the owner of the vault further. The rest of Rudolph's body—his bones—will be buried in the nearby cemetery of the White City. ”
- 977 AH, Erios' investigative report on a certain death
(c)
In order to prevent a recurrence of the tragedy, Palamedes decided to suppress the power of the skulls. He sealed the skull and embedded it in the wooden handle of the staff, thinking that this would keep the careless from touching it.
Palamedes was wrong. He ordered a faithful servant to put the newborn staff back in the treasure vault. The servant took the staff from Palamedes, and his body instantly turned into bones, just like Rudolph had done a few years earlier.
Only those who have been approved by the staff can touch this staff of calamity, and it took Palamedes a long time to realize this.
(iv)
For a long time, only two people in the entire Black Floating City could touch the staff alive: the great Black Lord Palamedes himself, and his equally unruly apprentice, Peter Cliff.
However, Cliff already has a staff that he is happy with. So, he decided to find a suitable master for the Staff of Scalul as well. Cliff believed that the owner of the Staff of Scaloo would be the teacher's right-hand man, just like himself.
(5)
More than twenty self-esteemed mage apprentices were involved in Cliff's selection. On a manor in a small remote country, Cliff gathers them together and tells them that he is looking for a master for the new staff created by his teacher. Unbeknownst to the participants, they are participating in a terrifying game of death.
The participants waited quietly in the hall. When Cliff read their names, they walked into a small room to the side, where Cliff and the Staff of Scaloo were waiting for them. Cliff asked them to pick up their staffs, and watched as they turned into skeletons in great pain. Cliff cut out the sound, and the screams of the victim could not be heard by those waiting outside. Cliff then casually invited the next person into the room, and at the end there were no more candidates alive.
(f)
I watched Master Cliff come out of the room, staff in hand. It dawned on me that if I wanted Andre to become a mage, this was my last chance. So, I ran to Master Cliff with André and asked him to allow him to follow him in spell learning. Master Cliff said that if André could wield the staff in his hand, he would promise me. Andrei did so. André took the staff from Master Cliff—I don't think it weighed as much as I thought—and waved it. Master Cliff looked shocked and told me that he had qualified. ”
—Mr. Calvados in his later years speaking to visitors
(g)
In this way, André Calvados, the son of an illiterate tenant, became the master of the Staff of Scalu and a pupil of the great Black Lord Palamedes. No one questioned the choice of Palamedes and Cliff to be able to lift the Staff of Scaloo, which in itself was an unquestionable strength.
Of all the magic, André is the only one who is obsessed with necromancy. He also quickly proved himself to be a genius for necromancy.
(viii)
"Day 37: He came...... I heard it again. There are fewer and fewer people alive. Will it be me next? We now believe that it is the song of death, and all we can do is pray. O Creator Almighty...... Please forgive us for our sins...... Let our souls rest in peace after death......"
- The diary of an unknown soldier, dropped on the battlefield. It is speculated that its owner has been transformed into an undead creature. It is said that André Calvados carried the Staff of Scalu in this battle and single-handedly destroyed an army.
(ix)
The sheer accomplishment quickly made André arrogant, and he didn't even realize at the time that he didn't have the full power of the Staff of Scalu. In the end, even the Black Lord Palamedes himself was disappointed in Andrei.
We'll probably never know why the Staff of Scaloo ended up abandoning Andre. Whether it was the sapient staff who voluntarily gave up his master and found a new master, or whether Palamedes voluntarily took back control of the staff from Andrei, it is unknown. As a result, Andre survived, but the Staff of Scaloo was missing.
Mages all over the world were amazed by this ending. Even a natural necromancer like Andre has failed, isn't this staff destined to have no real owner? Until the Skaru Staff's Strike Allah appeared, this was a foregone conclusion. Unfortunately, in the world of mages, there is never any "conclusiveness......

The Scepter of the Night•The Scepter of the Sun
Helios
"Eternal night comes. ”】
Helios, the staff of radiance of the sun god, was extinguished in the age of the clouds, after the fall of the gods. Now, its light is ignited again, and no one knows if it will turn into eternal night again.
(a)
The brothers and friends of the sun fashioned the scepter for him: the moon gathered the most precious jade in the universe, the blessings of the stars turned into flawless pearls, the god of rivers and the sea washed away the impurities, the god of craftsmen cast it with his own hands according to the design of the god of art, the god of magic infused it with the strongest magic of the gods, and the rest of the good gods each offered their own blessings.
Finally, the Great Sun himself completed his scepter. He picked up an ordinary stone from the ground, and the stone instantly shone brightly, like the sun itself. The sun installed it on the top of the scepter and announced that he would bestow it on the most devout believers on earth, and that those who held it would receive their eternal blessing to exercise the authority of the sun on earth.
(b)
In the aftermath of the cataclysm, only one-third of the continent rose from the surface of the sea to the endless sea of clouds. Since then, the surviving people have lost touch with the gods, which is the beginning of the cloud age. It was also from that time that the powerful Sun Scepter gradually lost its divine power, turning from an artifact into an ordinary magical item, but still overwhelmingly powerful.
The Temple of the Sun still holds it.
(c)
Hundreds of years have passed, and new churches have arisen that worship the Creator. They believe in the legendary great creator who saved the mortal world in the midst of the catastrophe and bestowed on the casters the gods of the sea of clouds, and the sea of clouds also answered their prayers on behalf of the creator and gave them true divine magic.
Gradually, the temple of the gods, which had lost its divine powers, became a heresy that no one cared about, and the ancient gods were regarded as ordinary creatures more powerful than humans. Most temples are naturally dying, and only a few of the most stubborn are unwilling to give up.
(iv)
Frenzied churchgoers storm the Temple of the Sun. The last priest of the sun, holding up the scepter of the sun in his hand, cursed everyone who blasphemed before him. Countless stones struck the frail old man, and the scepter slipped from his hand. Since then, the red crystal at the top of the scepter has lost its brilliance and has been stained pure black.
(5)
When the pastor of the church arrived in this remote town, he was immediately stunned by the tragedy before him. Some died; There are still those who are still alive, but they are worse than dead. Their skin turned black, they endured great suffering, wailing for someone else to kill them. There is no known magic that can heal their curse. Even if they choose to end themselves, or if someone else pierces their head, their flesh will be regenerated in excruciating pain. This continued until their sanity completely collapsed, their souls turned into nothingness, and the pain came to an end. ”
—Church Files, 395 A.D. on the clouds
(f)
The church at that time was helpless against the scepter of eternal night. The Pope had to join forces with the most famous mages of the time and cast the most powerful arcane and divine spells to seal it away. They believe that only omnipotent time can weaken the curse of the scepter.
This seal is thousands of years.
(g)
"I could scarcely imagine that in my hand was the ancient Scepter of Eternal Night, or rather, the Scepter of the Sun. It seems that frequent spatial vibrations have freed it from the seal. I could still feel the power of the curse on it, but I could barely resist it with just casting a blue sky-level protective spell. It seems that, as with other artifacts, time has diluted its effects. I discussed with Vane that we had the confidence to purify the scepter without relying on the church. It will be one of our most powerful staffs. ”
— Notes from François, Lord of the Galaxy
(viii)
In any case, Elrios' purification of the Scepter of Eternal Night was a success—at least on the surface. But its power remains unstable.
Of the younger generation of the French Powers, only Palamedes could harness the power of the scepter. In the hands of Palamedes, the scepter's berserk, destructive impulses were suppressed and transformed into a gentle staff that was particularly suitable for casting protective spells. Later, he gave the scepter to Peter Cliff, his first disciple. Compared to Palamedes, Cliff was given the Scepter at a young age, which made him more closely associated with the Scepter than his teacher.
(ix)
"Vane and François's purification of the Scepter of the Eternal Night was a failure. Its curse, hidden beneath the outer glow, corroded Peter's soul. Peter's recent strange transformation was undoubtedly influenced by the scepter.
There is no known means to save Peter's soul. Maybe the soul dichotomy is worth a try. ”
—The Notes of Palamedes, Lord of the Black
(x)
Eventually, Peter Cliff split into two men, the upright "End Day" and the evil and ruthless "Emperor of the Night". The Lord of Darkness has also made changes to the Scepter itself. When Cliff's righteous personality prevails, the scepter is the scepter of the sun, and when the evil personality takes possession of the body, the scepter becomes the scepter of the eternal night of curse and difficulty.
Later, Vane, the Lord of the Blue Sky, François, the Lord of the Stars, and others teamed up to banish the evil side of the Cree personality from his body. Both Vane and François wondered why Palamedes, the Lord of the Black, had not done this sooner, and had made it one of the charges against the Lord of Black. Since then, the Scepter has remained in its light form, at least so far.

Staff of Sigmund
Sigmund
["The power of the elements surges. ”】
Sometimes it's fire, sometimes it's frost, sometimes it's storm, and the condensed elemental energy jumps on the head of the staff's stone. The Staff of Sigmund is the Staff of Elemental and Transfiguration, and the Staff of Friendship of two legendary mages, Vane and Nicholas. From the Empire to the Federation to the Legal, the Staff of Sigmund has been passed down among many mages, waiting for its destined master.
(a)
The Staff of Sigmund was discovered by Sigmund, the eminent mage of the Okad Federation, in a ruin in the Grexia Empire, and is named after its discoverer. But it was only in the hands of his descendant, Nicholas, that the Staff of Sigmund unleashed its true power.
Sigmund had an apprentice, Benossos. Sigmund treated him like his own son.
(b)
In order to make his lover famous, Sigmund thought of a solution. He placed his most precious staff at the top of a cliff and set up a magical barrier to protect it. Finally, the Archmage announced to the apprentices that whoever could break through the obstacles and obtain the staff would become his heir.
In Sigmund's opinion, with the exception of the illustrious Benossos, the rest of the apprentices were simply unable to obtain the staff.
(c)
One by one, the apprentices tried to do so, but they all failed. Quite a few people died in the middle of the trial. In the end, only Nicholas and Benossos remained.
The cunning Nicholas knew that the teacher Sigmund was partial to Benossos. He is determined to make the teacher pay for his arrogance.
(iv)
Nicholas began to climb the cliffs, and the wind, fire, and thunder began to hinder him, but Nicholas only rebuked them, and they obediently retreated. Immediately afterward, a multitude of creatures, including winged snakes and clawed bats, swarmed up to besiege Nicholas, but Nicholas simply swept them with his falcon-like eyes, and they fled. Nothing could stump Nicholas, and he dove into the thunderclouds high up in the cliffs, where we couldn't see them. ”
—Diary of an apprentice
(5)
Except for Sigmund himself, who was in control of the trial, everyone thought that Nicholas had failed at the last minute of the trial. Not really. Nicholas had approached the staff, but had not picked it up.
Nicholas's approach won Sigmund's favor. He believed that Nicholas knew what he wanted, and took the initiative to "humble" the staff to Benossos. Little did he know that this was the trap set by Nicholas.
(f)
Benossos also began to climb the cliffs. Wind, fire, and thunder began to haunt him, but they couldn't hurt him. That's when the magical creatures began to attack him. Benossos fought back calmly, only to be hit by a creature entrenched in the shadows, a vulture, I think. Benossos let out a scream, and was instantly burned by the flames, reduced to a charred corpse, and fell to the ground. ”
Immersed in grief, Sigmund did not realize that Benossos did not die of his own arrangement. Nicholas secretly set up a new trap on the cliff, leaving Benossos defenseless against the ensuing attacks.
(g)
Nicholas cared for Sigmund and soon took Benossos' place. But Sigmund's body was still weakening day by day. Eventually, Sigmund appointed Nicholas as his heir from his sickbed. In this way, Nicholas gained everything Sigmund had, including the most precious treasure of Sigmund's life, his staff.
Sigmund did not realize until his death that the initiator of his deteriorating health was none other than Nicholas, whom he trusted the most and who usually took care of his diet and daily life.
(viii)
In fact, Nicholas had long since surpassed Sigmund. When his teacher was no longer able to guide him, he learned from two traveling mages from Elrios, Vane and Palamedes. Vane in particular, no matter how cruel and ruthless Nicholas was, could not help but feel grateful and ashamed in the face of Vane's unreserved trust and teaching.
In the end, the two agreed that if the two of them could one day become legendary mages, they would be named "Blue Sky" and "Eagle Falcon" respectively, with Vane being the blue sky that contains everything, and Nicholas being the falcon bathed in its blessings and fighting the sky. Nicholas also gave his teacher's staff to Vane to repay him for being like a brother and a teacher.
(ix)
But Palamedes saw through Nicholas's true nature. He warns Vane that everything Nicholas does is only for his own ambitions.
At first, Vane was reluctant to believe it, but when Palamedes accurately predicted the future trajectory of Nicholas's life, Vane also had to admit that maybe Palamedes was right.
(x)
In any case, the Staff of Sigmund thus became the possession of the French State of Elrios. Both Vane and Palamedes used it, but the two eventually decided to bestow the Staff of Sigmund on the world's promising youth.
Vane, who has become the head of the legendary council of Elrios, is unaware that Palamedes has transformed and strengthened the power of the staff. Like the other staffs that Palamedes treasured, the Staff of Sigmund would eventually become what Palamedes had for his disciples......
