Chapter 248: Top of the Standings
In the 71st minute, Ricardo replaced Kieli. Gonzalez, Emre replaces Veron.
As soon as he came on, Ricardo had a dribbling breakaway, but he didn't control it well when he crossed. Chievo clearly took Ricardo very seriously, with right-back Fabio Brown. Morrow is no longer involved in assists and is almost inseparable from Ricardo.
This kind of treatment was something that Ricardo did not enjoy when the two sides met for the first time.
Ricardo didn't think he had to dribble, assist or score on goal, the key was to follow through with the manager's tactical intent and help the team win. He actively ran on the wings, pulled, participated in the defense, gave it his all.
In the 79th minute, Inter Milan had a good chance. After a flurry of links on the right flank, attracting the attention of Chievo defenders, Emre shifted the ball wide to the left, where Ricardo stopped the ball and brushed past Morro, who had squeezed too hard, and a low ball into the middle.
However, his pass was inaccurate, and the ball was lost to Lorenzo in the process of flying. Danner blocked and bounced out.
At this time, Ronaldo showed terrifying explosiveness, he changed direction sharply, grabbed the landing point of the ball, adjusted one step and shot hard from a small angle, and the football flew into the far corner.
1:1, Inter equalized. And Ricardo also successfully brushed up an assist statistic.
The goal boosted Inter's morale and they launched a fierce attack in the final ten minutes. In the 86th minute, after Ronaldo received a straight plug from Stankovic, he burst into the penalty area with two strong successes, and forced a shot with his feet under the bag of two defenders, the football hit the defender's leg and bounced to the right.
In the end, Inter Milan struggled to get three points at home and ushered in an eight-game winning streak in the league. Juventus also won the previous match, while AC Milan suffered a surprise defeat to Livorno, leaving Inter Milan in second place in the table, still four points behind Juventus.
After the game, Ricardo was rated 6.5 by Sporting, slightly above the passing mark, proving that he was qualified in his limited playing time.
So in the first leg of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on 27 January, Ricardo started again.
Ricardo had a couple of good breaches in this game, but seemed to be lacking in confidence and did not have a single shot on goal in the game. In the end, relying on Stankovic's long-range shot, Inter Milan defeated Atalanta 1-0 away and took the lead.
On 30 January, Inter Milan played Palermo away, and Ricardo still started with Mancini's trust, with Donny van der Meyde netting a goal and Ronaldo scoring twice as Inter Milan won 3-0 away. Ricardo didn't do badly, but he was a little less lucky.
Before the end of the winter transfer window, Inter Milan made another deal when they bought Brazilian international Giulio from Flamengo. Cesar, used up the last non-European place.
The deal was not very pleasant for Ronaldo, after all, Cesar snatched his Suzanne and was his rival. There are very few men who can work with their rivals in a friendly way, and Ronaldo believes that the management has made such a decision to bring in such a signing, which is disrespectful to themselves.
In order to appease Ronaldo's anger, and considering that Toldo is in good form, Inter Milan loaned Cesar to Chievo after buying him.
On February 2, Inter Milan defeated Atalanta 2-0 in the 22nd round of Serie A, winning ten consecutive league wins. Ronaldo and Adriano each scored a goal and Ricardo provided an assist.
Juventus lost to Sampdoria at home, and the gap between them and Inter Milan was narrowed to 1 point, Juventus ranked first with 49 points, Milan lost to Bologna in the last game, and now the points gap between Inter Milan has been as much as 6 points, they are third with 42 points, although they have not withdrawn from the title race, but the chance has been slim.
In the 23rd round of the league against Parma on February 6, Inter Milan may have wanted to win too much, and the players played very frizzily and gave Parma too many chances.
They fell behind twice and equalised twice, but were unable to pull off another comeback. Although Ricardo's performance was acceptable, he continued to score goals.
Dramatically, Juventus lost 1-0 away to Palermo in a later match, relinquishing the top spot. The two sides are tied on 49 points, and Inter Milan is in first place with a goal difference.
It was also the first time this season that Inter Milan had climbed to the top of the table.
After the game, Ricardo flew to Hong Kong with Ronaldo and Adriano to join the Brazilian national team. In order to make money for the Brazilian Football Federation, they played a friendly match against Hong Kong.
Pereira experimented with Inter's front three, using Ricardo as a left wing-back position, and Brazil won 7-1 against Hong Kong. Ricardo scored twice and also set up a goal for Ronaldo.
The friendly finally allowed Ricardo to get back to scoring his groove, while Adriano suffered a minor injury in the game that could affect the next few games.
In the 24th round of the league on February 12, Ricardo started and played as a striker with Ronaldo. He continued his form in friendlies and scored twice in this fixture, when Mihajlovic scored from a free-kick and Inter beat Roma 3-0 at home.
On 16 February, Inter Milan beat Atalanta 4-0 at home in the Coppa Italia, a game in which Licardo came off the bench and provided an assist for a goal.
On 20 February, Inter Milan lost a good game away from home. In the 71st minute, Ronaldo received a long pass from Licardo in midfield, went straight past the goalkeeper and scored a goal, but then their backline made another mistake and was equalized by Udinese.
Fortunately, Juventus was also held to a 0-0 draw by Messina in the later evening game, and Inter Milan still led the Serie A standings on goal difference.
Then it's time for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Inter Milan have been drawn in favour of a favourite draw and face defending champions Porto in the quarter-finals.
Although Porto won the Champions League last season, they lost their meritorious coach Magic Bird and a number of main players this season, and their strength plummeted.
Roberto Mancini didn't dare to underestimate his opponents, but Inter's next opponent in the league was AC Milan, and he had to think about keeping it up.
So in the first leg against Porto on the evening of 23 February, he rotated extensively, with Ricardo and Ronaldo both on the bench, with Vieri and Martins starting.
In the end, with a beautiful long-range shot from Stankovic, Inter Milan drew 1:1 with Porto away. An away goal was good news for Inter Milan as they focused on the 26th round of the league.
The 26th round of the league is another Milan derby. Despite the fact that there are at least two Milan derbies every season, there is never aesthetic fatigue and there is a new passion in each one.
