Chapter 175: The Golden-scaled Lizard
Entering June, there is more and more precipitation in the Valley of Thorns, and it is raining almost all the time. The sun hides behind the clouds and never shows its face. Too much rain made it wet everywhere, and everyone smelled rancid.
"I feel like I'm getting hairy, and I wouldn't be surprised if a mushroom grew out of the top of my head." Masrae jumped over a bulging root and grumbled discontentedly.
"You're already full of hair." Diego glanced at the Night Elves and said - in order to avoid the rain, the Night Elves had already transformed into cheetahs, and the rain fell on its slippery fur, and pearls generally rolled downward, not staying on them.
However, in the jungle, the rain is never too heavy, because most of them are intercepted by layer after layer of plants, and no more than a third of them fall to the ground.
But even so, the ground that has been soaked up with water is still muddy, and when you step on it, there is always black oil mud squeezing out from the side of your feet, which is wet and slippery. If you're not careful, you'll fall on your back.
The sky was overcast, and the inside of the dense forest was even darker. Diego made his way through the jungle in a lizardskin cloak. He found the road very unfamiliar, and he couldn't remember that he had ever been to this place—in the memories of his past life.
"Where is this?" Diego looked around again in surprise to make sure of his discovery.
"This is the Valley of Thorns." Masrae walked over with a wagging tail and glanced at Diego with disdain.
"Uh, well, you're right." Diego reluctantly admitted, but instead of dwelling on this with the Night Elves, he squatted down and scratched the soft hair on Guan Haifa's chin. The big cat squinted pleasantly and purred low. These are a few of the few things it has enjoyed, especially lately as it has found that its human friends have become increasingly indifferent to its feelings.
"Guan Haifa, go and see if there is any danger." Diego said he knew the big cat could understand every word he said.
The big cat disgruntled and left his fingers. Raising his head, he studied the terrain around him, then turned to look at Diego and let out a low, complaining roar. It shook the fur off its body. Then, with light steps, he walked deeper into the forest.
Diego and Masrae followed it slowly, quietly watching the big cat walk up and down, sniffing the ground from time to time - if there were any beasts in this place, they would have deliberately left a scent. This is to show sovereignty over the land.
"It's safe here, maybe we can get a good night's sleep tonight." Masrae whispered.
"Not necessarily." Diego retorted suddenly—under a big tree not far ahead, Guan Haifa was hunched over his back, shouting vigilantly. Between the roots of the tree in front of it, a golden thing was glittering.
"What's that?" Masrae asked curiously, and ran over quickly. Diego followed him closely.
What was found in Guanhaifa was a huge scale. Two palms were the size of a diamond, somewhat like a dragon's shield-like scales. A raised and backward-sloping spinous process in the middle of the scale. The entire scale is smooth and hard, as if covered with a layer of enamel. But the most striking thing is its color, the scales are all golden -- the color of pure gold. Even in the dim jungle, it gives off a dazzling luster.
Judging by the size of this scale, it is clear that its owner will not be small enough to be there.
Looking at the scales, Diego suddenly remembered what this place was. Crystal Canyon, that's the only place where you can do that.
He couldn't help but glance out into the dense forest around him. But it was so dark that there was nothing unusual to see. But he felt as if there were beasts around him in the darkness, coveting their every move. A cool breeze blew past him, and he couldn't help but shudder.
"I think we'd better go back the way we came." He whispered.
"What's wrong?" Masrae asked, puzzled.
"There's a golden-scaled lizard here, a type of petrified lizard. That's the scales it faded off. Diego explained.
Masrae was also shocked. To be honest, the petrified lizard itself is not very powerful. A small team of ordinary human soldiers can kill it, but the trouble is that its eyes emit a petrification ray, and those who hit it will be transformed into rock statues, which can only be dissolved by some special alchemical potion. The golden-scaled lizard, on the other hand, is the king of petrified lizards. Not only does it have a more powerful flesh ~ body, but its petrified rays are also more powerful.
"We've got to hurry." The Night Elf urged in some anxiety.
The two of them crept outside. As if sensing the jealousy in Diego's heart, Guan Haifa also shrunk his head and followed behind them, not daring to make a sound.
However, as they circumnavigate a giant palm tree, Diego suddenly sees a troll appear in front of him. He was holding a wooden spear and stabbing at him. The sharp tip of the spear had even pierced him in front of him, almost stabbing him in the eye.
Diego was so frightened that he pulled the trigger in his hand almost instinctively.
I have to say that he fired the shot in time. With a loud bang, dozens of projectiles erupted, all of which hit the troll. To Diego's surprise, what he heard was not the muffled sound of flesh ~ being hit, but a crisp crash, as if hitting a stone. He even saw a projectile flying up and passing through the corner of his eye.
Just when Diego was inexplicable, he saw the enemy in front of him scream, and the whole thing shattered. Diego was genuinely shocked - although Death Gaze often blurred the flesh of the target when it used the shotgun, what was the whole thing like this?
He lowered his head and was surprised to see the fragments of stones in front of him, completely devoid of the bloody scene of blood and flesh all over the ground as he imagined.
He bent down and picked up the largest piece from the ground—it was the part of the troll's head—and held it in his hand and examined it carefully. After more than ten seconds, he couldn't help but crack his mouth and laugh dumbly.
This is an unlucky troll who has been hit by the petrification ray of the golden-scaled lizard and has become the ghost he is now. Judging by this thin layer of moss on his skin, it hasn't been long since he turned into stone, not more than half a year at most.
"Hey, man, stop laughing, you're in big trouble." The Night Elf on the side said suddenly.
Diego blinked in confusion, but then he heard a loud roar of the beast coming from afar.
"Damn it!" Diego cursed in annoyance, the more he was afraid, the more it came, and the golden-scaled lizard was still alarmed.
The cry sounded muffled, as if it were coming from some cave, and it seemed that the beast was crawling out of its lair and rushing this way, determined to punish the poor creatures who dared to enter its territory.
"Now, what do we do?" Masrae asked in a low voice.
"Perhaps, I have a solution." Diego said. To be honest, he didn't want to run anymore, he was already addicted to being hunted by ogres last time, and he didn't want to repeat what happened last time. And in the thorny valley, it is not a good habit to hug your head and spur your head, who can say what you will encounter? Is it a community of grumpy orangutans, or a group of female velociraptors hatching eggs?
"Are you sure? If we were hit by the petrification rays of the golden-scaled lizards, we could end up worse than they did. Masrae said, gesturing into the distance.
Looking in the direction he pointed, Diego saw more than a dozen lifelike troll statues under the trees and grass not far away, and it was difficult to tell the difference between them and the living world in the dim forest.
Diego finally realized why Guan Haifa didn't smell the smell, because the golden-scaled lizard never used urine to mark its territory, it used a statue made of living people, which was more ferocious and intimidating!
"Don't worry, we'll be fine." Diego patted the Night Elf on the shoulder and encouraged. (To be continued.) )
