Chapter 579: Perseverance

The defenders were quickly ready for battle, in fact, all of them were waiting for this moment, and they all knew what they should do when the demons attacked.

The first to take to the air were the griffon knights, who streaked across the night sky and flew towards the south side of the canyon, while the others ran down the ramp to the walls, which were soon full. The gnomes' steam tanks began to spew high-temperature steam, their muzzles high, aimed at pre-calibrated positions.

Everyone is looking in the direction of the canyon. At the edge of the campfire-lit range, there seemed to be a shadow shaking, and it was known that it was the demons peeping in the dark.

There was silence on the walls, and it was clear to everyone, whether human or dwarven, that this would be the end of this final battle, victory or death, and nothing else!

The weather was hot and sticky, the air was so humid that it could almost drip water, but the tense pre-war atmosphere was more oppressive and solemn than the weather, and the roars from the darkness were like the sound of hell, like a big rock pressing on people's hearts, and it was extremely suffocating.

In this low and oppressive atmosphere, a firm and loud voice suddenly sounded.

"The Light is with us! He will bless us, and He will watch over us! The voice chanted the prayer aloud, and immediately afterward, a radiant light energy descended from the sky and poured into each defender, making them more determined and stronger. It's not just about meat. The enhancement of the body is also an encouragement to the soul, bathed in its illumination, everyone clenches the weapon in their hands, no longer wavering, no longer hesitating. The dazzling light spread along the city walls, as if a wall of light had been built, sweeping away the gloom and oppression that had existed before.

"The Light is with us!" The morale-boosting defenders chanted, even the dwarves of the Forge of the Titans, Kazgros.

As if in response to this great shout, suddenly, a dazzling light tore through the darkness, and lightning slashed across the sky like a sharp sword, and in that moment, all the defenders saw the nightmarish sight in the gloom of the canyon: the ground was crowded with all kinds of strange figures, and these hideous-looking demons were constantly pouring out of the canyon, and the tide was rolling towards the city walls.

The lightning was followed by the rumbling thunder rolling across the sky, as if opening the floodgates of the Tianhe, and the torrential rain fell mercilessly. If it weren't for the campfires in the open space in front of the walls that had been poured enough oil, they would have been extinguished even in the first place.

On the battlefield, the first to roar were the steam tanks of the gnomes, and the scorching shells drew deadly parabolas one after another, exploding in the tide of demons, blasting out patches of blanks. Followed by the dwarven muskets and the human ballistas, bullets and arrows rained down, reaping the harvest of the demons that rushed to the front, but for the sullen demons, this did not stop their charge, and in just a few minutes before the muskets and ballistas were reloaded, the demons crossed the clearing and came to the city walls.

They stopped in front of the walls, throwing stones, swords, fireballs, or anything else at any moving creatures above the walls, but they were all blocked by the sturdy breastwork, and only a handful of them hit their targets. There are also demons who have done their best to throw the howling Cerberus at them, and although there is nothing new, they have caused more chaos on the walls than any other attack.

More and more demons rushed to the walls, some of them simply grabbed the rocks with their hooked claws and climbed up, while others frantically knocked on the steam tank blocking the gate to destroy it, only to be blown to pieces by the tank's cannon fire.

Their attacks were furious, ferocious, but under the blows of the condescending defenders, they were killed under the walls as if they were rushing up to their deaths.

However, their impact was not in vain, and while the defenders were not noticing, the demons threw more and more corpses under the city gate, and they forced a flesh ramp to build a ramp of flesh and blood, and finally it was almost at the level of the city wall, and the demons who rushed up were almost face to face and fought with the defenders.

The defenders are losing the vantage ground of the walls! When the humans realized this, the demons' plot was almost successful, and the demons rushed towards the city gate like waves, and they were about to break through the human barrier and overflow the city walls!

All the demons let out a howl like a ghost crying wolf. They thought that this was the end, that the humans and dwarves would be terrified, that they would be defeated, that an easy annihilation and slaughter would be at hand, and that they would only have to chase after the fleeing remnants of the defeated army and all would be all right.

Who would have thought that what they were waiting for was extremely disappointed. At the moment when the defense line was about to be breached, the humans and dwarves shouted desperately almost simultaneously. The cry was not filled with horror, but with anger.

It was as if a fire had suddenly burst into flames on the walls, and Diego Aznar, Masrae Bearskin, Brian Brasbeard, Christopher Farral, Harry Burgard, and many of the other most formidable warriors of the coalition swooped down on the place like mad lions, and a storm suddenly swept over the walls at the gates. Humans, dwarves, and demons are all in a maelstrom!

Countless arms waved wildly in the whirlpool, guns roared, blades flashed, human cries and demonic roars and the groans of the wounded reverberated into a terrifying hellish sonata, and in just a few minutes, the height of that section of the city wall was raised by half a meter, and blood flowed freely along the city wall, dyeing the entire wall red!

Diego pulled the trigger and tumbled the two orcs that were rushing at him and tumbled off the wall. In the darkness of the night, he had completely lost his range advantage, and now he had to use his shotgun to pour fire on the demons who rushed up. In the midst of the chaos, he heard the sound of wings flapping in the darkness ahead, the sound of the demon bat's wings vibrating, very different from the sound of the griffin's wings.

Diego picked up his musket and fired it in that direction without hesitation, and with a terrible hiss, a doomsday guard slid crookedly through the darkness, slammed into the wall, and slid down bloodily.

As he peered down, a demonic guard leapt up from the shadows under the wall and slashed at him with his head. Diego was about to raise his gun to block, but a lightning-bolted hammer descended from the sky, smashing the Doom Guard in the face and falling miserably.

Diego looked up and saw a griffon hovering over the gates, but it was too crowded for it to find a place to stay, and after a few moments, Furstad Hammer, who couldn't wait, jumped off the griffin's back and jumped down. However, he obviously didn't see the timing of the jump, and if Diego hadn't grabbed the braid on his chest in time, he would have fallen into the dense demons under the wall!

"There are many ways to die in battle, and you are certainly not the most heroic!" Diego threw him like a bag of potatoes onto the wall and said mockingly.

"Diego, two news, one good and one bad, which one do you want to hear?" The leader of the dwarves surprisingly didn't care, he lost a lot of his beard, and said with a sad face.

"Come on, I haven't heard a few good news since the start of the war, so you can just say one first!" Diego shot a dreaddemon who had just emerged from under the city walls, and said with a big grin.

"Well, one news is that there are at least four legions of demons coming from the other side of the canyon, and the other news is that there are at least two Abyss Lords among them!"

"Hell, where's the good news?" Diego couldn't help but scold.
