Chapter 326: Rookie Challenge
1. The NBA Rookie Challenge is one of the important games of the NBA All-Star Weekend, and it is an important exhibition game for the first and second year rookie games. The first edition was held in 1994. Historically, most of the games have been played by the rookie team to challenge the rookie team (sophomore team), and the coaching team will select the best nine rookie players and sophomores in January to form the rookie team and the sophomore team, with the assistant coach of the best team in the East and West serving as the team's interim head coach, and sometimes inviting NBA star players to serve as the team's nominal manager to add to the topic. After 2012, the players of the competition were changed to two NBA celebrities who selected their favorite players from among the outstanding first- and second-tier young rookie players to play in a team. Most games are played the day before the NBA All-Star Game. The sponsor of the event is T-Mobile.
2. It was first held in 1994, and it was divided into excellent teams and sensational teams, all composed of rookie players. In 1995, it was changed to a white team and a green team, which was still made up entirely of rookie players. In 1996, the rookies began to be divided into leagues to which the team belongs. From 2000 to 2011, it was changed to a rookie team against a second-year team. The Most Valuable Player of the Match is selected after each match. In 2012, the team was changed to a mixed team of first- and second-year rookies, with players selected by two team managers appointed by the league.
3. The game is divided into two halves of 20 minutes each. There is one 100-second timeout in each half, and two mandatory commercial breaks in each half, one at seven minutes and one at the half
Mandatory at 14 minutes. Both teams will automatically lose a 100-second timeout if they don't use each of the 14 minutes (when the rookie team loses the timeout) and the 7 minutes (when the sophomore loses the timeout).
Self-suspension. Each team has one 20-second timeout at halftime.
Foul play will be counted by the Record Desk, but there will be no 6 fouls left the field. The recording desk will notify the referee to enter the penalty procedure when either team has accumulated 11 fouls, and 2 before halftime
The second foul of either team within a minute begins with the same penalty kick. In the Rookie matchup, if the score is tied in regular time, a two-minute overtime will be played.
Shots made in the final 1 minute of the second half will result in a stoppage. 20 minutes to warm up before the game. The MVP award will be given at the end of the competition.
4. Since 2012, the two teams in the Rookie Challenge no longer use the names of the rookie team and the second-year team, but use the Barkley team and the O'Neal team. This is because the two teams in the 2012 Rookie Challenge are no longer divided according to the year they entered the NBA, but are mixed. Two former star players, Charles Barkley and Shaquy O'Neal, were selected and led by the team, so the two teams were renamed Barkley and O'Neal. The 2013 Rookie Challenge was also used.
