Chapter 205: Solicitation
The prison in Booty Bay is located on a small island south of the harbor, and although it is not well guarded, the dense density of sharp-toothed wild fish and great white sharks in the surrounding sea and between the reefs is enough to discourage all escapees from swimming and escaping, and they really don't understand how these two equally ferocious creatures can live in peace instead of killing each other.
Early in the morning, Diego and his party took a ferry boat to the island. The people here are all pirates, murderers, and other heinous felons. In fact, they are also here for the pirates who are being held here.
For the rich man Rivigaz, there was nothing more to await the pirates than to be hanged - he would not waste food to feed these unruly scourges. So when Diego offered to buy the pirates aboard the Waves, the goblin tycoon immediately agreed. If you can get rid of these rice worms and make a lot of money for nothing, why not? After some haggling, Rivigaz sold the pirate crew for two gold coins each, and whether or not he could get their allegiance was Diego's business, and he didn't care.
After a modest check, Diego and several people were sent to prison. Diego guessed that it was because of Kraz's presence, and if they had only come by themselves, they might not even be able to enter the prison gates.
The outer walls of the prison were made of cement between two layers of tight wooden piles, and they were in disrepair, and in some places the wood had even been soaked by the rain, revealing the yellow mud inside. But the guards didn't mind the prisoners digging the holes wider, because even if they escaped from the prison, they couldn't escape from this big prison that hung in the middle of the world, and the gallows that stood on both sides of the road from the prison to the dock would never be unemployed.
It took them a few minutes, led by the guards, from the gate all the way to the cell. At the door of the cell, everyone else stopped, except for Diego, who was led by the guards into the cell, which had been negotiated before they arrived, and Diego went in to try to recruit the pirates. If he didn't succeed, there would be no need for him to spend this unjust money.
The cell was very dim, and a sturdy wooden fence divided it into separate cages, leaving only a corridor for the guards to pass through. These wooden fences are made of thick logs. The lazy guards did not even peel off the bark of the tree, which was covered with a stinking moss due to its dampness and gloom, silently announcing its decay. The gap between the fences was only a palm's width and made it difficult for even the skinniest prisoner to get out of the fence.
Now the cages were packed to the brim - there were about a hundred sailors on the captured Wave Cutter. It took a lot of effort for the cell boss to stuff them all in. Diego carefully discerned the prisoners, looking for who he wanted to see.
He finally found the middle-aged man he was looking for in the innermost cell, Phil Laren, the captain of the Chopper.
When Diego saw him, he was sitting cross-legged in front of the window, looking up at the sky, and even in his cell, the captain was still neatly dressed and unhurried, as if he were just visiting a friend's house. There weren't many occupants in this cage, except for Phil Laren. The third officer and boatswain of the Wave Chopper were also held here - the first and second officers had been killed in battle before they were captured - and it seems that their status also gave several men some preferential treatment here.
"Wow, who do I see?" When he saw Diego, the third mate couldn't help but get up from the ground and shouted mockingly, "How strong is your vanity, so much so that you want to chase here to show off to your defeated men?" โ
Diego ignored him, but looked at Phil Laren, who was sitting in front of the window, and said straight to the point: "Mr. Phil Laren, I think we need to talk." โ
"I don't think there's anything to talk about between us." The pirate captain replied indifferently, and he didn't even glance back at Diego.
"Isn't the subject of me setting you and your men free as well?"
"Oh?" Phil Laren finally turned his head. Moved said. The third mate and the boatswain had even rushed to the fence, staring at him expectantly. The word "freedom" sounds more wonderful at this moment than ever.
"That's right, I'm going to spend a sum of money. I bought you from the goblins. "Perhaps, you're going to work for me." โ
"Phew, no way, I'd rather die than be a slave!" The third pair couldn't help but spit out a mouthful of thick phlegm and shouted angrily. For the yearning for freedom. For unruly pirates, the word "slave" is enough to stir up their most sensitive nerves.
Diego tilted his body, dodging the thick phlegm that hit him, and then continued to put forward his own conditions: "Three years, you only need to work for me for three years." โ
"How?" Phil Laren said with some curiosity.
"That's right, in order to take you away from here, I need to pay Rivigaz a large sum of money, maybe you can think of it this way, this money is what you owe me, the ransom for leaving here, to be repaid by working for me, after three years, you will be free, of course, if you want to stay and continue to work with me, I have no objection." Diego explained that he had been thinking about it for a long time, and he believed it was enough to impress them.
Phil Laren was lost in thought, pondering the consequences of doing so. Beside him, the third mate and the boatswain looked at him expectantly, and they were clearly in favor of agreeing to this conditionโto be honest, what could be worse than now being in prison and deprived of liberty?
Diego didn't say anything more, just looked at the pirate captain quietly, he also knew that this decision was not so easy to make, but for himself, this was already his last bottom line, and it was impossible to make any concessions.
At that moment, he suddenly noticed that the cell was very quiet, which was not normal. He turned his head and saw that almost all the pirates were clutching the fence, waiting for their captain to make a decision. No one likes to go to jail or be hanged on the gallows, and Diego's arrival gives them hope.
After a while, Phil Laren came out of his contemplation: "Can you guarantee that we will only have to work for three years?" โ
"Of course, we can sign a contract in which this is specifically stated," Diego said, "and I also believe that in three years' time, you can bring out a group of new recruits, and even if you leave, it won't cause too much trouble." โ
"Any contracts are prepared for violation, I don't trust them, I want to know what you're doing, what you're going to make us do, I need to have a preliminary understanding of my employer."
"I am the Viscount of the Kingdom of Stormwind City, the Lord of Moonstream Town, I need a ship to protect my newly built port, you know, in the Eastern Kingdom Continent, you have too many companions, I have to be prepared."
There was a burst of laughter in the cell, these pirates knew better than anyone how rampant the pirates of Azeroth were, in fact, in addition to the Bloodsail Pirates, there were many pirate forces active around the Endless Sea, such as the werewolf pirates from Gilneth "Rush Boat Gang", the South Sea pirates operating in the area of Ratchet City, the Viku pirates entrenched in the northern continent of Northrend, and even the escort fleet of Treasure Bay sometimes made a cameo appearance as pirates to fight Rivigaz's business rivals, in fact, many people know their other names- Blackwater Pirates!
"Speaking of the nobles of the Stormwind Kingdom, their reputation is really not very good, as a member of them, you make me more worried, I need you to come up with more reasons to convince myself." Phil Laren said sincerely.
Diego was stunned for a moment before he came to his senses. He suddenly remembered Van Cleef of the Defia Brotherhood, and if he hadn't been recruited, this guy might have actually driven that super gunboat to make a cameo appearance as a pirate.
"Edwin? Van Cleef, do you know each other? Diego asked.
"Of course, old friends." The pirate captain replied without hesitation.
"He's my man now." Diego smirked.
Phil Laren's eyes lit up suddenly, and it seemed that Van Cleef had a lot of weight in his heart. He reached out to Diego through the crack in the fence, "I think you can go and pay the ransom to the warden." โ
"You won't regret your decision." Diego squeezed his hand tightly and said with a smile.
He let out a long sigh of relief in his heart, feeling that this conversation was more tiring than the last one. Truth be told, the rebelliousness and freedom of these pirates is a real headache, but Diego knows he has a way to get them to be loyal, after all, for all of Azeroth, strength is the backbone of respect. He was confident that he would use the pirates to protect the nascent harbor of Long Beach, rather than lure the wolves in. (To be continued.) )
