Chapter 148: Raven Ridge

They had been walking northeast for almost a morning - although the sky was not visible in the dark forest, Diego could feel that the visibility was much higher now than it had been in the morning, and when he looked up, he could see a faint light illuminating the lush foliage.

Although grasses are difficult to survive in this shady environment, ferns and fungi such as graveyard moss and ghost mushrooms grow everywhere, and sometimes horses' hooves can leach into fishy muddy water when they step on damp moss. Some centipedes and beetles panicked out from under the moss and disappeared under the rocks and burrows in the dirt.

Almost just when they thought they were going to walk all day in the forest, it was as if all of a sudden, a clearing that had been cleared by the felling of trees and the bulldozing of the land appeared before them.

They looked up at the sky and saw that it was still foggy overhead. The midday sun seemed unable to dispel the mist, revealing only a pale disc in the sky. But it has already made the two of them overjoyed, just like a person who has been walking in the gloomy darkness for a long time suddenly sees the light.

The glade was not empty, in fact, it was a reclaimed farmland, a fertile land full of neat oats, but the crops should have been harvested last year, and now all that remained was gray, black, rotten stalks and roots that smelled of mildew. To the north of the farmland, there is also a farmhouse and a tall stable. But judging by the moss on the roof and the broken doors and windows, it has been a long time since it was inhabited.

This kind of dilapidated sight is not uncommon in the Twilight Forest, where once-rich and fertile farms have begun to decay under the combined devastation of leaking magic and necromancers, and the people who live here have either died of the plague spread by the necromancers, become cursed cultists, or have fled.

Either way, it was a surprise for Diego and Masrae to see people after a morning of trekking through the dark forest.

They warily went into the farmhouse to find out. But the interior of the house is far more dilapidated than it looks. The floors of the houses were full of cracks, and the walls that had been erect were long since crooked. The oak beams and columns were also beginning to rot. The stable wasn't in any better shape, its roof was full of holes, and patches of red and green moss grew on it. The foundation was soaked in water for many years, and the whole house sank into the ground. It looks like a huge rotten mushroom with its petals scattered.

But the two men didn't care about it, they lit a fire in the fireplace of the house and started to get themselves something to eat. Masrae rummaged through the house and found him two low stools. They sat in front of the fireplace, baking their already soaked laundry. Drinking piping hot soup couldn't be more pleasant.

"At this rate, we might be able to reach Raven Ridge before it gets dark today!" Diego said as he mentally calculated the remaining distance.

Masrae nodded. The night path in the Twilight Forest is even more terrifying than the rest of Ren Azeroth, so it is better to join Brother Samuel and them as soon as possible.

They didn't stay long on the farm, and after a hot meal, they left the rare glade and headed north. It's magical. Masrae had found a path through the dense woods.

The road is very narrow, winding between the trees, and is supposed to be a passage between the former farm and the outside world. But after a long period of desertion, the road has been mostly covered by moss and ferns, and the original ruts have long since disappeared.

After walking for a long time, Diego found that there were still living creatures in this forest. It was snakes and spiders, skunks, and other critters, and through the magic energy goggles, he could see these creatures sneaking around the trail or snooping on them from behind tree trunks. There were many strange noises in the bushes, muffled grunts, scratching, and rolling sounds. The sound also expands all the way to the old pile of rotting leaves on the ground, and it is tiresome to see.

Masrae tried to communicate with the critters, but the creatures that had been contaminated with magic no longer had a normal mind. He sensed only endless wails and hatred for life, and could not communicate at all. This made him depressed for a long time, and he couldn't let go.

They walked for a long time in the forest, and when they left the woodland and came out on the main road, they were not strictly speaking. Although the road did split the forest in half, revealing a glimmer of sky, Diego felt like he was about to fall apart.

But the narrow sky overhead gives them enough light to relax and extend their vision into the distance.

With the light cast overhead, Diego saw the makeshift camp on the north side of the road. It was a small camp of marching tents. The camp was surrounded by a wooden fence with sharpened stakes, and several tall wooden watchtowers were erected in the camp, which looked as if they were on the verge of a great enemy.

Looking at this meticulous posture of walking on thin ice, Diego couldn't help but sigh. This group of people must have suffered a loss, otherwise they would not have put on such a cautious posture.

Beyond the top of the camp and farther north, the shadow of a mountain loomed in the fog in the distance. The ridge is neither tall nor steep, and is technically a gentle hill. The trees on this hill are much more sparse, and between the trees, a patchwork town is revealed, Raven Ridge.

The town was once home to some of the best funeral businesses in the kingdom, with more than a third of its inhabitants engaged in the business. In its heyday, even the kings of Stormwind were sent here to be embalmed after their death and before being sent to their mausoleums. But after the industry had brought the town a great reputation, though not a good reputation, it was inevitably targeted by the necromancers. You know, just north of this town, there is one of the best cemeteries in the whole of Azeroth, and even the cemetery area of Stormwind may not be as big as it is in terms of size.

The twin blows of the magical energy that leaked from the Tower of Karazan to the east and the necromancers who were making waves of wind and waves caused the town to decay.

But now, as the lord of the land, Steven? Reinier is back now. Although their first battle didn't look smooth.

"Hopefully we're not too late." Diego whispered, and he took the lead and galloped in the direction of the camp. (To be continued.) )
