Chapter 535: Island in the Heart of the Lake
His Majesty the King is like a stream. Soon, several orders were conveyed. The soldiers who had gathered around followed their commander away, searching the palace for traces of other demons.
Strangely, however, half an hour had passed, and they had not found a single demon, as if they had never appeared, and if it weren't for the ruins and the devastation of the place, they would have almost believed it.
Eventually, a team discovered a large hole in the walls of the northwest corner of the fortress, from which it was clear that the invaders had left.
"Catch up and kill them all!" His Majesty roared angrily, and he was the first to rush into the big hole, "No one can pat the ass after ruining my homeland. If they leave without incident, even the demons will not work, they will have to pay the price! ”
Diego followed Duke Berval through the Great Cave, where he found it just north of Stormwind, with the sparkling Stormwind Lake not far from them. From here, the island in the center of the lake is full of trees, and the waterside is lush with cattails, swaying in the wind.
"That's where they escaped!" Diego grabbed a handful of dirt from the messy hoof prints on the ground and twisted it between his fingers, the remnants of the dirt irritating his skin and sending a slight burning pain.
"Can you track their whereabouts?" Varian asked eagerly.
"Of course!" Diego confirmed. This was his old business, and the demons didn't seem to have any intention of hiding, with deep hoof prints, dripping blood, and discarded broken blades and armor fragments everywhere along the way, all the way in the direction of the lake.
They followed it all the way and finally stopped at the lakeside. The water here is deep, but it is very clear, and from the shore, they can clearly see the aquatic plants and algae at the bottom of the lake.
Diego walked along the shore of the lake for a while, then returned to the group.
"There was no other trace, they must have jumped into the lake." Diego spoke his own judgment, which was a bit of a surprise, as most of the members of the Burning Legion didn't like water, preferring to stay in a dry, scorching environment if they had a choice.
"Hurry up, find a boat!" Duke Boval ordered the sergeant beside him.
"Don't bother!" An old voice said. Diego turned around and saw Archbishop Benedictas coming out of the crowd behind.
"I'm sorry I'm so late," he said, panting, "but you have to forgive an old man, it's almost his limit to be able to get there now." ”
"You don't have to be in such a hurry, in fact, the demons have already been defeated!" The king said with respect that, in fact, it was the old man in front of him who protected his son during the years he had been away from Stormwind. He paused, feeling that it seemed a bit of a 'we don't need you' to say this, and added, "You just take care of the injured lads in the back." ”
"No, the old dog has a few teeth, too! I'm not old enough to lift a staff! Benedictas rejected the king's kindness and said stubbornly. He expertly raised his staff in his hand, and then slammed it into the ground.
"In the name of the Light!" He shouted, and as he shouted, a circle of soft light rippled out in all directions, and everyone slowly floated in his pass.
Levitation! This magic can hold up the caster and levitate it in the air a few feet above the ground, making it a great way to cross rivers and ravines. Even if you fall from a cliff, you can be sure that the caster is safe and sound.
Diego moved his legs, only to find that he was just standing still, unable to move at all.
"Control with your minds!" The archbishop exclaimed, and with that, he demonstratively controlled himself to float forward, and then stopped on the water.
"Onward!" Diego tried to command in his heart, and sure enough, just as he was about to think about it, an invisible force pushed him slowly forward.
"Wow, that's amazing!" Diego almost screamed in surprise. However, others are not as able to control their emotions as he is, and many of them dance and shout. The lake is full of demons.
"Quiet! Get ready to cross the water to the island! Bolvar shouted, drawing everyone's attention back to the pursuit of the demon.
They floated slowly across the lake, and the closer they got to the island in the middle of the lake, the more nervous everyone became. As the Archbishop has explained, this magic is not without limits on the power of each person's lift, and if a fierce battle is fought, the magic may collapse and the caster will fall into the water.
However, as he got closer to the island, Diego found that the water was not that deep, and many places were only knee-deep. Even if you fall into the water, you won't drown.
Skimming over the swaying grass, they re-stepped onto the hard ground, and while the levitation technique was magical, the slow speed of movement was not suitable for use in combat.
Everyone nervously held their weapons and approached the sparse woods on the island, but to everyone's surprise, no demons jumped out to attack, and there was no sign of danger lurking, and the woods were peaceful, with insects chirping and birds singing, not at all like someone had come.
"Are you sure they've been here?" Berval asked, skeptically.
"I'm sure!" Diego said, pointing to the hoof prints that had been stepped on in the grass by the water's edge. Most of the demons that attacked this time were heavy, and these hoof prints were very deep, and they were not so conspicuous after being flooded by the overflowing lake, but the fallen aquatic plants exposed their existence.
Varian nodded, pulling Salamoni out from behind.
"Get ready for battle! Advance! The king roared.
The island wasn't that big, and at its widest point it was only a few hundred yards. They marched cautiously through the forest in a sparse formation, and after about half an hour, a glade suddenly appeared in front of them.
It's a clearing, but it's just a little low, bushes. But by this moment, the bushes that had been thriving had long since withered, and even the ground had turned desertified, turning the same ochre red as the Cursed Lands.
Diego grabbed a handful of sand and let it slip between his fingers.
"Like the Cursed Lands, it's completely corrupted!" He turned his head and looked at the king sadly.
"Damn it!" Varian cursed angrily. He strode forward, slashing away the withered bushes with his sword, and saw a pile of obsidian hidden in between.
These obsidian blocks were etched with all sorts of strange runes, faintly revealing a disgusting pus-green color. The stones are embedded in the ground in a certain order, forming a mysterious circle.
"This is the Evil Energy Teleportation Circle! The runes and circles on it are arranged in the same way as the Dark Gate, but the scale is much smaller! In the crowd, a middle-aged man in a robe walked over and carefully distinguished. Diego recognized him as the High Mage Andromas.
Andomus stroked the obsidian blocks, feeling the residual heat on them.
"They haven't been gone for long, this circle was only used two quarters of an hour ago." He straightened up and said regretfully.
"So? Those demons have already run away? Varian asked, almost gritting his teeth. Everyone could hear the monstrous anger in his words.
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that's it!" Andomus whispered.
