Chapter 180: The Four Judges of the Hades
Next, Bai Annie gave us a brief introduction to the origins of these four judges.
The first is the Reward Division: Wei Zheng.
Everyone knows Wei Zheng, right? I have learned it in history, and it is the "famous face of the generation".
Wei Zheng was originally the auxiliary minister of Tang Taizong, outspoken and daring, not afraid of the emperor's authority, often in the court and Tang Taizong fought for red faces, after his death was taken under the command of the king of Hades, the head of the reward for a good one, in charge of the good, dressed in a green robe, responsible for the ghost according to the good deeds done during his lifetime, give rewards.
Wei Zheng's most famous story is naturally the dream of the Dragon King of the Jing River.
In "Journey to the West", the Dragon King of Jinghe made a bet with the Taoist priest Yuan Shoucheng, deliberately deducting the rain points, the Jade Emperor ordered Cao Guan Wei Zheng to behead him, and the Dragon King of Jinghe hurriedly went to ask Tang Taizong Li Shimin for help, Li Shimin deliberately pulled Wei Zheng to play chess to delay the execution, but Wei Zheng beheaded the Dragon King in a dream, and a dragon head fell from the sky after three o'clock in the afternoon, which made Tang Taizong miserable.
Punishment Division: Zhong Kui
Zhong Kui, also known as the Ghost King and the Heavenly Master, was dressed in a purple robe with angry eyes. All the ghosts who come to report show good and evil, distinguish between good and bad. All the bad ghosts who did evil in his life were dealt with by him, and there are countless legends about Zhong Kui, what Zhong Kui catches ghosts, and Zhong Kui marries his sister.
Zhong Kui was originally an ordinary man, how did he become a judge in the underworld?
It is said that Zhong Kui was originally a talent who studied hard in the cold window, talented and brilliant, and won the first place in the scientific examination in one fell swoop, but because of his ugly appearance and hideous and terrifying, the emperor did not like it, and he actually erased his champion alive, and the angry Zhong Kui hit the pillar and died. Hades took pity on his miserable life and appointed him as a judge of evil.
In the underworld, Zhong Kui was dressed in a purple robe, his eyes were wide open, his lips were closed, and he looked like he was doing business. All the bad people who did evil in his life were dealt with by him, and he sentenced them according to the principle of "four noes and four nos" of the king of Yama, the four no's - disloyalty, unfilial piety, untrust, and unbelief; Four nos - rudeness, unrighteousness, incorruptibility, shamelessness, light punishment for minor crimes, heavy punishment for serious crimes, and then handed over to the ten halls of the king of Hades to be sent to the punishment platform, sent to the eighteenth layer of hell, until the sentence is completed, and then handed over to the reincarnation hall, pulled to turn into a cow and a horse, into a worm into a dog, etc., and return to the yang world.
Since Zhong Kui has a deep relationship with our Maoshan Taoist priests, we will go into more detail in the future, so I won't say too much here.
The third judge, Chacha Si: Lu Zhidao.
Lu Zhidao is a person from the Song Dynasty, speaking of him, maybe none of you know, but when it comes to "Judge Lu", everyone knows it, and no one knows it.
After his death, he became a judge of the Yin Division, his eyes were like electricity, he was upright, and he looked righteous and awe-inspiring. Its duty is to ascertain the good and evil, and to judge the case clearly with the two judges who reward the good and punish the evil. In addition, he is the judge Lu in Liaozhai.
In "Strange Tales from Liao Zhai", it was said that Lingyang scholar Zhu Erdan made a bet with someone to go to the underworld to bring the most vicious statue of Judge Lu, Zhu Erdan was stupid and blunt, and he really moved the statue here. In the middle of the night, Judge Lu appeared, drank and talked with Zhu Erdan, and became friends, Lu Judge not only changed Zhu Erdan's smart heart, but also changed a beautiful head for his wife, leaving only a red line around his neck, which can be described as a miracle skill.
Regarding the Lu judge, the most famous legend is the "Lu Judge Changing the Head" related to the bull head and horse noodles.
It is said that although Lu Ju is a "judge", he does not judge the life and death cycle of ghosts, and he does the position of a judge, but does not exercise the function of a judge.
Why? Because he has a superb medical skill.
So Lord Yama asked him to open a pharmacy in the underworld and become Langzhong.
Lu Ju has a very high status in the underworld, and he is the target of a lot of gangsters, and no one dares to offend him.
One of them is because the king of Hades and the yin officials also have uncomfortable times, and once they have a headache and brain fever, they have to be diagnosed and treated.
The second reason is that all the ghosts remember the fate of "bull head, horse face", thinking that at the beginning, the cow head and horse face were not what they are now, and they also looked like a talent and looked dignified. But because he offended Lu Ju, when he was treating, he was secretly manipulated by Lu Ju. The heads of the cow and the horse were forcibly replaced on the two of them. It has become "cow head, horse face".
With the experience of the previous car, all the yin people respected Lu Juan like a god, and they didn't dare to come out in front of Lu Juan.
We don't know the truth of this legend, but Judge Lu is not only in a vacant position, but has no authority, his duty is to let the good get good rewards, good things are promoted, so that the evil people can be punished as they deserve, and rehabilitate the wronged.
The last thing we want to say is that the number one person in the well-known Yin Cao Difu, Yin Law Division: Cui Jue.
Cui Jue is the number one person in the well-known prefecture, with a red robe and jade belt, holding a life and death book in his left hand, and a soul hook pen in his right hand, adding longevity to the good and letting the evil return to the west.
"Journey to the West" records that this public surname is Cui Mingjue, who was a minister under the control of Li Shimin, Taizong of the Tang Dynasty, and was the official of the county order of Zizhou, and was later promoted to the waiter of the Ministry of Rites, and became close friends with Prime Minister Wei Zheng. Before his death, he was an upright official, and after his death, he became the most trusted investigator of the king of Hades, in charge of the investigation department, rewarding the good and punishing the evil, managing the life and death of people, and the crown of power in ancient and modern times.
In some myths and legends, there are many legends of Cui Jue's case, among which the story of "Ming Jue's Evil Tiger Hurting People" is the most widespread.
It is said that there is a big mountain at the junction of the southwest of Changzi County and Qinshui, called Diaohuangling, and there are often fierce beasts in the past. One day, there was a woodcutter who went up the mountain to chop wood and was eaten by the tiger, his widowed mother was in pain, and went to the court to cry out for injustice. First in front of the mountain temple will be recited and then offered to the gods, and then a tiger from behind the temple sprang out, to the front of the constitution, let it be bound with iron chains. The evil tiger was detained to the county office, and Jue was immediately promoted to the court. In the hall, Jue counted the crimes of the evil tiger for hurting people, and the evil tiger nodded again and again. The final verdict: "The crime of cannibalism should not be forgiven." The tiger touched the stairs and died.
Of course, in the folk legend about Judge Cui, there are many stories about him favoritism because of his affection, which is vividly described in "Journey to the West".
In the tenth and eleventh chapters of "Journey to the West", his name is Cui Jue. In the tenth and eleventh chapters of "Journey to the West", it is narrated that the Dragon King of Jinghe made a bet with Yuan Shoucheng, made a mistake in the rain cloth, and was beheaded by Wei Zhengmeng, the old minister of Tang King Li Shimin. Before he died, Wei Zheng said: "Your Majesty is relieved, the minister has one thing to do, and he will protect His Majesty's eternal life." Taizong said: "The illness is terminal, and his life is in danger, how to keep it?" Zhengyun said: "The minister has a book, enter with Your Majesty, and take it to the Hades, Fu Fengdu judge Cui Jue." Taizong said: "Who is Cui Jue?" Zhengyun said: "Cui Jue is the minister of the first emperor of Taishang, first under the order of Zizhou, and then promoted to the Ministry of Rites. Again and again with the ministers eight worship for friendship, know each other very well. He is now dead, and now Yin Si is the Fengdu judge who holds the book of life and death, and he often meets his ministers in his dreams. If this book is given to him, he will read the small ministers, and he will definitely let His Majesty come back. Discipline the soul to return to the yang world, and set to take Longyan and turn the imperial capital. After Li Shimin died, he came to Yinsi, and Cui Jue knelt down to greet him on the side of the road.
Cui Jue read Wei Zheng's letter and said with joy: "Wei Ren Cao's dream of killing the old dragon the day before yesterday was already known to the ministers, and he praised him endlessly. He also took care of the children and grandchildren of Gu Chen sooner or later, and today there are books, Your Majesty is relieved, and the micro-ministers will send Your Majesty back to Yang and re-ascend the Jade Que."
When entering the "Netherworld" to be examined by the Ten Palaces of Yama, the Ten Kings had to look at the book of life and death to check whether Li Shimin's Yangshou had ended. Cui Juan hurriedly transferred to the secretary's room, and reviewed the general book of Tianlu, the king of the kingdom of the world, one by one. I saw that Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty in Nanbu Prefecture was destined to be Zhenguan for 13 years. Judge Cui was taken aback, and hurriedly took a large pen of thick ink, and added two drawings of the word "one" before presenting the book. When the Ten Kings saw it, they asked, "How many years has Your Majesty been on the throne?" Taizong said: "I have been on the throne for thirteen years now. Hades said: "Your Majesty is relieved, there are still twenty years of life." This is already a clear case, please return to the roots. ”
In this way, Judge Cui personally returned Li Shimin to the yang world, allowing him to ascend the throne for another twenty years in vain.
Is it because of the folklore of Judge Cui that Wu Chengen was written into "Journey to the West"? Or is there the story of Cui Juan in "Journey to the West", so that there is Cui Juan in the ghost town in Yudu? It's hard to say in one or two sentences. But one thing can be said, the judge of the underworld is said to be the most upright and selfless, so it seems that this is indeed the case, and he is not a person who tends to be inflammatory.
