Chapter 1: A Trip to Long Beach

Next Chapter

The California sun is always relaxing, and the blue sky against the white clouds makes this place a holiday paradise. It's no wonder that California becomes a mecca for people to travel every summer, and even many NBA stars choose to spend their vacations in California. In addition, this year, the Los Angeles Lakers won the first championship trophy after O'Neal left under the leadership of Kobe Bryant and Gasol, which added a lot of popularity to California.

A man in a suit walks down a narrow alley, a dirty, dark alley that doesn't quite fit the sunny weather in California.

"What a fucking damn one! If I knew it was for me to come to this kind of place, I would have turned that guy down! "The man in the suit and leather shoes is swearing, and it is very eye-catching for a guy like him to walk in a slum where people of color gather. As soon as he walked into the alley, there were already quite a few people who cast ill-intentioned glances at him.

Although it belongs to the same California, the place where the man in the suit and leather shoes is not the starry Los Angeles, but the satellite city of Los Angeles, Long Beach.

Long Beach is just as beautiful and has some of California's best weather. But behind this glamorous city, it has the highest crime rate in California.

That's why the man kept cursing, and people like him were walking in the slums of Long Beach City, and it was very likely that something would happen to them. To put it mildly, he is now working with his life!

Just as the man was looking around, around the corner in front of him, a few black men dressed in hip-hop and grinning came out. And it was obvious that one of them was still holding a pistol in his hand.

"Hey, look at this guy, what's wrong with the white pig, are you lost?" A group of people looked at the man from a distance and couldn't help but laugh loudly.

"Calm down, Harpy, you have to be calm...... "The man kept comforting himself in his heart, believing that as long as he didn't speak, the other party wouldn't hurt him for no reason.

In Long Beach, especially in places like the Wood District, shootings happen from time to time. In the United States, racial hatred is much greater than one might think. Anything can happen to Harpy now.

Happi kept his head down and went his own way, and the group of guys who seemed to be gang members passed by Happi. They looked the brightly dressed "uninvited guest" up and down, and from time to time they let out exaggerated laughter and criticize him. But to Harpy's relief, nothing happened!

The group just passed by him, and that's it. Happi now just wants to thank God that when he gets out of here, he will never come back to a place like this for the rest of his life!

Watching the gang members slowly move away, Harpy also relaxed his guard. He continued to search for the address in his hand, looking for a guy who was of great interest to his employer.

As a scout for a college basketball team, Harpy should have known all the basketball talent of the country. But the name given to him by the coach of the team, he had never heard of it. Anyway, the manager is his boss and the manager says I need this guy to play for me, and Harpy has to find him. Even if he was looking all over Long Beach, Harpy had to do the same. After all, it's directly related to his job.

Just as Harpy was thinking, he felt himself suddenly be pushed hard. Harpy was pressed against the wall by this sudden force, and if Harpy hadn't guessed wrong, he would have been fucking robbed!

"Wallet!" Sure enough, a man's roar came from behind Harpy, and a cold sharp knife was already against Harpy's neck at this moment.

"Hey, there's anything to say, can you put the knife down first, man." Harpy pressed his face against the wall, unable to see what his robbers looked like. His left hand was pressed behind his back by the comer, unable to move. He tried to break free, but he was afraid that the knife would stab him at any moment.

"Wallet!" The man behind him yelled again, and the hand holding the knife was a little harder. Looks like this guy isn't going to give Harpy any room to maneuver.

"What the fuck, fuck the basketball prodigy!" Harpy cursed as he fumbled in his suit pocket with his movable right hand.

"Took the money and returned the wallet to me, which contained photos of my family and various identification information. All you want is money, right!? Harpy lifted his wallet, and it was immediately taken by the man behind him.

"If you cooperate, I'll just take the money. If you don't cooperate, I might kill you! The man continued to threaten, but it was clear that the guy was a novice, because when he got his wallet, the knife actually left Harpy's neck!

Harpy took the opportunity to suddenly exert force and turned sharply. He was also a basketball star in college back then, and it was easy for him to do these moves.

The robber's knife was slapped to the ground, and seeing that the situation was not right, the robber quickly pulled out the banknotes, threw down his wallet and ran away!

I have to admit that this robber guy ran really fast. If you play basketball, it will definitely become a sharp knife in the transition offense.

Harpy shook his head and picked up his purse, which had been ransacked. He took a general look, and everything was there except money.

But to say that the robber just now, it really left a deep impression on Harpy. Although he wore a bandit scarf covering half of his face, it still couldn't hide his yellow skin and outstanding height.

That's right, it wasn't a black man who had just robbed Harpy, but an Asian who had just robbed him! Judging by the face, the guy is still quite young. And this Asian still has a braided hair that only blacks like to make. It can be said that it is to make a sensitive scout like Harpy unforgettable.

"The children who live here...... Ay. Harpy couldn't help but sigh that the status of Asians in the United States is not much higher than that of blacks. In addition to blacks, Asians and other people of color also make up a large proportion of this slum, which has a high crime rate.

Most of the children who live here will go astray, and some will face prison before they are even minors. Rather than being afraid, Happi is now more sympathetic to the people who live here.

After escaping the catastrophe without danger, Harpy knew that he couldn't keep wandering around this kind of place. He had to find the address as soon as possible to find the basketball genius that the coach admired. Then get everything done, go back to Indianapolis, and tell your boss that he will never come to a place like this again to find someone!

After another ten minutes, Harpy was finally ecstatic to find that the apartment in front of him was exactly the same as the address written on the paper!

Downstairs in this apartment, there is a simple street basketball court surrounded by barbed wire. But Harpy knows how many NCAA superstars, and even NBA superstars, have come out of such a dilapidated basketball court.

Seeing the basketball court, Harpy's heart finally got some comfort. At least later, what I want to meet is a child who plays hard, and I am very likely to change the fate of that child.

"Fifth floor, room 507, this is it!" After a long circle, Harpy finally arrived at his destination. He straightened his suit, the robbery he had just encountered had made his bow tie a little messy.

"Where did you get this money?" Before Harpy could knock on the door, a woman's voice could be heard in the room. But obviously, she wasn't speaking English.

"I just went to work in a fast food restaurant to earn it, don't ask Mom, let's use the money to buy you a new pair of shoes, and you can go to eat a big meal in the evening." Another man's voice appeared in the room, but he didn't speak English.

"Knock knock!" Harpy knocked on the door anyway, interrupting the conversation of the people in the room. In any case, he didn't want to wait a moment longer.

"Who?" The man in the room asked nervously, this time in English.

"Is it Mrs. Yi's house?" Harpy replied politely.

"Who are you looking for?" The man in the room asked again, but didn't seem to want to open the door.

"Okay Yiyang, I'll go open the door and take a look." The woman's footsteps drew closer and closer to Harpy, who seemed to stop at the cat's gaze and finally the door opened.

Harpy was smiling as she was about to introduce herself to the lady who had come to open the door. However, in the next second, his smile froze.

Because the Asian boy standing in the room at this moment was wearing a whip scissors on his head, a green bandit scarf in his hand, and a black short-sleeved T-shirt. Harpy is sure that this boy is the one who just robbed him!

"I was robbed by a basketball prodigy!? A basketball genius who would become a robber!? Harpy said to himself in surprise in his heart, today's experience is really amazing......
