Chapter 607: The Vask
After a cursory formation, the alliance of Silver Dawn and the Forsaken began to advance in the direction of the battlefield.
At the forefront of the army of Silver Dawn, a battle-hardened army of Lordaeron's remnants, almost all of them were made up of the strongest and most experienced veterans. For this expedition, they sent two of their most elite troops, the Lark Legion and the Iron Wall Legion!
More than half of the lark legion were cavalry, but in order to save horsepower, they led their horses on foot and walked in front of the infantry. After a long voyage at sea, both the horses and the soldiers had to get used to the feeling of walking on the unshaky earth.
The cavalry were followed by infantry legions, which were lined up in a tight phalanx in company units, and flags of various colors swayed in the wind like a forest. Compared to when Diego left the Plaguelands, these legions had been greatly improved in terms of equipment and quality, they were well-trained, well-arrayed, and their whole bodies reflected the light of metal, looking at the past from afar, like a majestic mountain range moving.
Walking at the back are dense, overwhelming the Forsaken. Their tactics were inherited from the Scourge Legion's Sea of the Undead tactics, and they won purely by numbers, so the Forsaken had the largest number of people in each legion, three or four times more than humans, and some even reached as many as five thousand.
The number of Forsaken who arrived in the Cursed Lands this time reached a staggering five legions. This is a real outpouring of the nest, and almost all the inhabitants of the Undercity have arrived. The number of these undead "soldiers" was so large that it was almost impossible to see the end, and half an hour after the departure from the front line, there were also Forsaken soldiers pouring out of the ship and pouring into the beach. Even standing on top of the bunker miles away, Diego felt as if he smelled the strong stench of corpses, and it was hard to imagine how the soldiers of Silver Dawn had spent the entire long journey with these stinking living dead on the ship!
Looking at this huge army, the expressions of Diego and Brian Copperbeard can only be described as ecstatic, this is simply a charcoal in the snow, a desperate situation!
"The brothers must be told the good news right away! They're going to jump for joy! Brian shouted excitedly and ran downstairs. It's time to cheer up the guys, or it's funny that they're being attacked by demons when reinforcements are coming!
More than ten seconds later, a cheer full of joy came from the second floor - although these remnants had long been determined to die with the demons, but when they saw the hope of survival, who could not rejoice and be excited!
For a moment, the morale of the defenders was greatly boosted, and even the sound of rifle fire seemed to be intensive. But to be honest, because the staircase is easy to defend and difficult to attack, although the demons keep charging upwards, they have never made much progress, and the sound of the demons who are venting their desire to destroy the wall is worrying.
Just then, several dwarven gunners approached with a round object.
Brian looked at it several times before he could tell what it wasβit was a powder keg with a layer of dwarven chain mail tied to the outside, but judging by the dwarves' laborious appearances, the barrel seemed to contain more than just gunpowder.
"Maybe we can try this big guy!" The dwarven gunner at the head said breathlessly.
"What's in there?" Brian asked curiously.
"As you can see, a powder keg!" The gunner's face was full of pride, "But we filled the barrel with a few bundles of grapeshotfire and turned it into an improvised bomb!" β
"Can this solve the demons down there who are going berserk?"
"I'm afraid not, but at least it will silence them for a while, so we can hold out until reinforcements arrive."
Brian nodded, not asking any further. In the current situation, as long as it works, he has no objection to trying any method. Under his watchful eye, several gunners cautiously pushed the powder keg to the top of the staircase and stopped. Up the stairs, several Dreadheads were lunging up against a thick door panel that had been removed from the bunker door. This door panel made of brass and black iron alloy was more than two feet thick, and the M1 rifle could not shoot through it at all, and in the end, a dozen or so dwarven warriors used several cast iron slides four or five meters long to resist it, and the strength of the two sides was equal, and it was a stalemate for a while.
The situation was much better at the other staircase, and even though the demons were holding the same thick door panels, they were of no avail in front of the mighty Druid Bear. Nothing could withstand the slap of the ferocious beast, and with a single paw down, the demons rolled down the stairs along with the door.
"Let me come!" Brian took off his shield from behind his back, removed the hammer from his waist, and made his way to the staircase.
"Brian, your injuries ......," said the priest Old Rohan worriedly beside him.
"I can't die yet!" The dwarven prince said heroically. He raised the shield in his hand and prayed to the Dwarven Father, and the next moment, he let out a terrifying roar.
"Kazgros!"
Like a large cannonball fired from the muzzle, the dwarf roared down the stairs. Almost instantly, the shield in front of him slammed into the door panel, and with a "bang", a violent impact resounded through the bunker, causing people's ears to buzz.
The thunderous collision was completely beyond the demons' capacity, and with a scream, the huge shield was knocked down with a "click", and even the demons supporting it were crushed underneath.
Brian also fell on his back on the stairs. He was not feeling well at this moment, and the huge shock made him dizzy for a while, and his internal organs were like turning over the river and the sea. His entire right arm was limp and felt like it was about to shatter. When several dwarves rushed up and dragged him back to the second floor, he was still struggling and chanting, "Throw the powder keg, throw the powder keg!" β
In fact, he didn't have to worry about it at all, and the moment he was dragged up the second floor, the sneering powder keg was rolled down the stairs.
In order to prevent the fuse from being pulled out, the fuse was only more than an inch long outside the barrel wall, and most of the rest was worn inside an iron pipe that was completely embedded in the barrel. The barrel tumbled down the stairs, over the heads of the demons struggling under their shields, and then ping-pong rolled down the stairs and out on the ground. The oak slats on the outer wall of the powder keg creaked unbearably, as if they could shatter at any moment, but the barrel did not fall apart on the way due to the protection and restraint of the dwarven chain mail wrapped outside.
A few seconds later, in everyone's anticipation, a deafening roar came up from downstairs, mixed with the swishing sound of hard objects scattering in all directions. In fact, the blast sent a shockwave that came up earlier than the sound, and huge puffs of smoke erupted violently up the staircase like a geothermal fountain.
It was like a big earthquake, the floor on the second floor kept shaking, everything in the room shook violently, making a clattering sound, and for a moment, everyone was worried that the bunker would not collapse like that. If it weren't for the fact that dwarven buildings have always been known for their sturdiness, this fear would almost have come true!
"Put your heart back in your stomach, so that the dwarven building will not be so easily shaken!"
When the dust finally cleared, the disgraced Brian said proudly and loudly.
In the hall on the first floor, the sound of demons banging on the walls had stopped, replaced by their roars and moans filled with pain. Although the sacrifice made them ferocious and violent, it could not bring back the missing limbs, and for a moment, the stunned demons completely forgot what to do next.
It wasn't just the shockwave of the explosion that caused damage to the demons, the grapeshot inside the barrel was bursting in all directions, no less powerful than when they were fired out of the barrel. It is worth mentioning that the chain mail wrapped around the powder keg does more damage than grapeshots, and the iron lock rings that break and burst out are like countless shotguns, hitting the surrounding demons all over the body!
