Chapter 698. Conditions for serving as a leader
Austinger was helped by Cremont and another Scout soldier to what Derick called a resting place.
"I said you, you can't get in the carriage, say it earlier. Let everyone make a mess for you. After settling Austinger into a chair in the break room, the soldier complained to Austinger.
"It's also my first time riding in a carriage, so I didn't expect it to be like this." Austinger replied with his head bowed. There was a hint of guilt in his tone.
"You can rest here. Commander Daerik says the kitchen will prepare some light meals for you. Let's go first. Cremont explained.
After seeing Austinger nod, Cremont walked out with the soldiers on the side.
By the time the two of them went to the banquet site, the banquet had already begun.
The scouts mingle with the local soldiers of Durandal. Talking funny jokes to each other.
"Why did you start eating so quickly?" The soldier who followed CrΓ©mont walked over to the tables of his familiar comrades, dissatisfied.
"Come on, come on, together." The seated soldier greeted without mind.
As soon as Cremont entered the arena, he noticed that Derick and DeWitt were sitting in the upper seat and waving to him.
Seeing the empty seat next to Derrick, Cremont silently walked over.
"Thank you for your hard work." DeWitt said with relief.
"It's fine." Cremont replied.
"I've been talking to Captain DeWitt for a while. You're coming. I have long said that the fainted soldiers will be left to my soldiers to arrange. Derick said.
"How were you talking? Drunk? Cremont sat down in his seat and asked in a different subject.
"Don't drink today, I'm worried that it will delay your trip." Derick explained.
"I'm talking to Commander Derrick about how to do my job as captain." Devitt said with a smile.
"By the way, we're talking about it here, and you're here." Derick nodded at DeWitt, then turned sideways to Cremont and said with a smile, "Cremont, can you tell us about the standards you should have as a leader in your heart." β
"Iβ" Clemmont raised his teacup and couldn't help but shake his eyes, "I guess I'm still in the learning stage." It's not very clear. β
"Hmm." Instead of continuing to ask him, Derick turned to DeWitt and threw the same question: "What about Captain DeWitt?" β
"I think as a leader, you should do everything well. Make the right decisions every time it matters. DeWitt replied, "It must be a perfect person." β
"Huh." Derick said with a smile: "With this mentality, you can't be a good leader." β
"Why?" DeWitt asked curiously.
Cremont also turned his attention to Derick, wanting to get an answer from him.
"You see, our lives are inherently full of contradictions. The power of contradiction keeps us alive. Therefore, if you blindly pursue perfection yourself, you will not be able to defeat the inertia brought about by the contradictions of this world, and the team behind you will be destroyed. Darek took a sip of his tea and continued, "Whether it's a good strength or a weak one that can't be exposed. The leader is the one who fills the whole group, and only you associate your whole body with the group, and when you shine, others will notice your group. In this way, over time, you will become a powerful force that the world allows. β
DeWitt and Cremont listened to what Derick had to say, and they were silent for a moment.
"I didn't expect that Commander Derick's belief was burdened with such a calm opinion." DeWitt sighed.
"There are more people in this world who have become rulers. Among them, there are many kinds of talents. In their hearts, they will also have a different definition of the position of the leader. I'm just saying what I felt when I sat in this position. The most important thing for you now is to have faith and not to have any illusions about the end. The rest of you will be outside of Calradia for about half a year. Don't let this group break up at the beginning. Derick was a little embarrassed by DeWitt's compliment, and then said to the two. The last sentence, Derrick, was said specifically to Drake. The look in his eyes is incomparably resolute.
"Yes. Commander of Derrick. DeWitt replied earnestly.
"Do all leaders need to have the vision of Darrick to lead you?" Cremont asked softly.
"Actually, I don't think I'm fit to be seen as a leader." Derrick laughed, "The eyes of the leaders are all about the future. And I don't have that kind of talent, so in order not to look too ordinary, I can only look to the past. I want to explore the origin of things and find out some truths that can sustain survival. β
"I'm still taught." DeWitt noticed that Derrick's mood seemed to be a little low, and immediately raised his teacup to make a tea ceremony to Derrick.
"I hope you can have a smooth journey tomorrow." Derrick responded.
All three raised their glasses and drank their tea.
"You can't drink too much tea, or you won't be able to sleep tonight." Darek joked.
The next day, early in the morning.
The barracks sent supplies and kindly helped the scouts load them onto the camels while they were still washing.
After breakfast, the soldiers went out to see a caravan of camels parked in front of the door with a load of supplies.
They all thanked the Durandal garrison on the side.
"No thanks, this is what we should do." The representative of the soldiers in the barracks replied, "If you want to go to the elven country, you need to go out through the city gate on the west side. Follow that road, after walking for four or five days, you can see the official road of the elven country. Let me lead the way. β
After the words fell, the soldiers' representative dismissed the rest of the soldiers and asked them to return to the barracks.
DeWitt followed behind the soldiers' representatives with all the soldiers and set off towards the city gates.
After reaching the city gates. DeWitt happily thanked the soldiers' representatives again: "Thank you for your hard work. β
"Well, I wish you all a nice journey. When you come back, I hope to see you return safely along this road in four months. The representative of the soldiers said goodbye.
More than two dozen soldiers mounted their camels and lined up in the order of their squads.
Heading for the desert.
"We'll be in the Elven Kingdom in five days." DeWitt said.
"Hmm." Cremont replied, "It's almost time to join the elven soldiers." β
