Volume 2 Chapter 6: The Lin Family Compound
Linjialuo Village is located in a small basin surrounded by mountains, and there is only one tunnel through the mountain to enter and exit the village, maintaining the connection between more than 100 households in the village and the outside world.
After passing through the mountain tunnel of more than 300 meters, the scenery in front of you suddenly opens up. Coming and going, Qianmo traffic, one after another antique Hui style buildings appeared in front of people's eyes. It's like a paradise. Due to the geographical location, most of the Hui style buildings here are relatively intact.
The Lin family is located between the mountains and is rich in timber resources. Therefore, the houses of every household are mainly made of brick, wood and stone carvings. And its craftsmanship and techniques have reached the peak of the realm. Whether it is the beam, the gatehouse, the door, or the window lattice, the pillar pier are all carefully carved, and the content is mostly based on people, animals, flowers and trees, eight treasures and ancient times, cloud heads, back lines, geometric shapes and poems. The subject matter is widely used, mainly celebrity anecdotes, literary stories, opera songs, religious myths, folk customs, folklore and social life, such as "King Wen's Visit to the Sages" and "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Forest". The carving techniques adopt various types such as shallow carving, deep carving, and hollow carving, with various levels and meticulous depictions. Families could not even find a carved pattern of the same shape. It can be seen that the spirit and craftsmanship of the ancients are superb.
Ancient Huizhou prevailed in the style of respecting ancestors, and each village built an ancestral hall, and there were ancestral halls, branch ancestral halls, and family ancestral halls. In the Lin family, the main worship is naturally the Lin ancestral hall. The Lin family moved here since the Hongguang period at the end of the Ming Dynasty, after more than 300 years, it has been passed down for eight generations, and now it is the largest surname family in the village. According to the older generation of clansmen, when the Lin family moved over, a total of four brothers came, the eldest brother led by the establishment of the later Lin clan, and the remaining three brothers set up their own families, and slowly developed into the current Lin family's huge Lin family.
Born in such a family, Lin Peng naturally had many relatives and elders at a very young age, and he couldn't be called any seventh aunt, eighth aunt, seventh uncle, or eighth uncle. To this day, he still can't figure out some people's relationships.
When he went home last night, it was close to the early hours of the morning, and Lin Peng slept beautifully on his small bed after a long absence. My mother didn't touch anything in her room, and the furnishings were basically the same as when she left, giving people a sense of kindness and peace of mind.
In the morning, accompanied by the sound of a rooster, Lin Peng slowly woke up from his sleep. There was the sound of the kitchen "pop, pop, pop" in my ears, which was the busy figure of my mother in the kitchen. Lin Peng lay on the bed, lazily holding the pillow and reluctant to get up, wanting to stay in his nest for even a minute longer.
But this little wish was still broken, and my mother seemed to hear the subtle movement in the room, walked from the kitchen side, and knocked on Lin Peng's door.
"Lin Peng, get up and eat!"
"Got it, got it!"
After a long urging, Lin Peng reluctantly got up from the bed and got dressed.
Pushing open the wooden panel door of the room, you will be greeted by an open courtyard surrounded by the eaves of the surrounding houses, a bit like a courtyard house in Beijing. The rooms on both sides are the guest rooms, and the front and rear are passages connecting the front and back yards. The front yard is where the Lin family treats and stores medicines daily, and the backyard is larger and more functional, in addition to infrastructure such as kitchens and bathrooms, there is also a large yard. There is a hundred-year-old locust tree in the courtyard, and the Lin family's ancestral hall of the Lin family is also built in the courtyard. The meeting was generally presided over by Lin Peng's father, Lin Xiao, and the elders in charge of the clan generally had to appear, and the entire courtyard was usually filled. Lin Peng has seen this kind of scene many times since he was a child. It can be said that this is the symbol of the clan power of the Lin clan, and it is also a place to unite the centripetal force of the clan.
Lin Peng walked through the wing room and came to the backyard, only to see my mother walking towards me with a bowl of lean millet porridge on a wooden plate.
"Go, give them to your grandfather!"
When my mother saw that I had risen, she put the wooden plate in my hand and said.
"Okay!"
I looked at the freshly baked millet porridge and felt my stomach growl. I quickly took it and walked through the corridors to the living room in the front yard.
Directly above the living room hangs a plaque that reads "De Yitang". It is the place where the Lin family regularly holds "free clinics" for the nearby villagers every year. Every year on that day, Lin Peng's grandfather and father would sit in this hall to do free "free clinics" for the villagers who came to see the doctor. Lin Peng has also had a busy meal on this day since he was a child, and he was busy grabbing medicine and helping to take the east and west, and he was often too busy to find the north. Some of the elders and juniors of the Lin family in the vicinity will also spontaneously come to help.
It is said that this tradition has been passed down since the first generation of ancestors who moved here. Because of this, the Lin family has always been loved and respected in the local area.
"Grandpa, Dad, porridge is here!"
Lin Peng smiled and put the wooden plate on the table, and brought Lin Xiao and his grandfather Lin Sheng a bowl of lean millet porridge.
"Yo, get up, come, let Grandpa take a look. Well~ The little baby has a lot of spirit. ”
Lin Sheng went to bed early last night, so he didn't see Lin Peng, but when he saw his grandson coming over with porridge, he couldn't help but smile.
"Hehe~ Isn't that with you and Dad?"
Lin Pengle said with a smile.
"Why is the little ghost so good at talking now?"
Lin Sheng was amused.
"Alright, don't stand there stupidly, let's sit down and eat. ”
Lin Xiao said with a smile.
"Okay!"
Lin Peng hurriedly brought himself a bowl and ate breakfast with his father and grandfather.
"Yo, what are you talking about? Dad, I haven't seen you smile in a long time. ”
At this time, Lin Peng's mother also came over, took two small plates of pickles and put them in the positions of Lin Peng and Lin Xiao, and brought Lin Sheng a small plate of braised tofu. Three more hard-boiled eggs and three bowls of freshly ground soy milk were placed on the table.
"Why is the little grandson back, happy. ”
Lin Xiao explained for his father with a smile.
Lin Sheng smiled a little stiffly, took a piece of dried bean curd and bit it in his mouth.
"Dad, this dried tofu tastes okay, right?"
Lin Peng's mother asked cautiously on the side.
"Uh-huh, yes!
Lin Sheng hurriedly nodded again and again.
"Okay, then I'll go to that house next time and buy it!"
Zou breathed a sigh of relief and said with a smile.
"Yuezi, don't be busy, sit down and eat together. ”
Lin Sheng beckoned Zou to sit down and dine together.
"Okay! I'll go back and pack my things. ”
Zou said and walked to the backyard.
"Master morning!"
At this time, a young man came over from outside and asked Lin Xiao and Lin Sheng for peace.
Who is this person? Why haven't I seen it?
Lin Peng looked at the strange young man in front of him with some curiosity, and felt that he had no impression at all, not like a person from this village.
"Oh, it's Gu Yan, come over so early?"
Lin Xiao immediately put down the chopsticks in his hand and said with a smile.
"Yes, I came over after breakfast, and I didn't dare to slack off. ”
The man named Gu Yan nodded and said with a humble face.
"Lin Peng, let me introduce you, this is your father's newly accepted apprentice, named Gu Yan, who came from a nearby village to study. Gu Yan, this is my grandson, Lin Peng"
Lin Sheng smiled and introduced the two of them.
"Hello young master. ”
After listening to Lin Sheng's introduction, Gu Yan hurriedly arched his hand towards Lin Peng.
"Don't call me young master, just call me Lin Peng. ”
Lin Peng said with a smile, but he was already dead in his heart.
"Dad, grandpa, you eat first, I'll go around the village!"
Maybe he was really hungry, Lin Peng devoured it and quickly swept away the food on the table.
"Well, go ahead, don't run too far!"
Lin Xiao nodded and said.
