Chapter Seventy-One: The Beginning of the Dinner Party
As the footsteps outside the room faded away, the room fell silent, leaving only Orlan and Lillian.
"What do we do now, it seems that there is no way to meet the baron in advance, or do we continue to go according to plan?" Lilian sat on the clean, uncluttered bed, with a richly patterned silk quilt embroidered with silk threads. She seemed to be a little tired, and perhaps she was less accustomed to riding in a carriage than riding a horse, and Orlan was no different.
However, the two did not let their guard down because of this, after all, since the moment they entered the castle, they were even entering the territory of the "enemy", and the laughter and harmony just now were just superficial acting skills.
"The two maids seemed to be waiting at the door, and I had more or less noticed that there were many guards, both bright and covert, inside the castle, especially the guards stationed outside the door, and I believed that they would rush in at the slightest movement. In fact, I want to ask you nobles are all so timid that they want to put these guards in every corner of the room? Oran had some questions about the layout inside and outside the castle.
"It's not entirely cowardly, at least not at Fort Sutton Lear, and of course it may be that we had a bit of a violent quarrel some time ago, and this baron has to do some precautions." Lilian replied nonchalantly.
"I hope so, it's uncomfortable for me. Although we didn't notice any obvious anomalies, we had to be careful, by the way, can these two swords on the wall work? I don't want to run outside looking for our carriage. Orlan paced around the room, then asked Lillian as he looked at the two crossed swords hanging from the wall.
"Actually, I think you're just dealing with a few normal people, so you shouldn't be able to use weapons, right? Maybe there is no knight in this castle who is better than me. In fact, the captain of Kevin's guard just now, I'm afraid he was only a junior knight. β
The two of them chatted in the house, but after a while, they heard a knock on the door outside.
Lillian turned her head to look at Oran, her brow furrowed.
"It's Yulia......" Orlan could roughly identify from the sound of footsteps.
"It's me, can I come in?" Before Orlan could finish speaking, Yuria's voice came from outside the door.
"Come in." Lillian replied.
Then the maid who was waiting outside the door opened the door for her when she heard the permission from inside.
"Well, Orlan, what do you think we should do next? Do you want me to see the Baron directly as an alchemist? Yulia whispered after the maid closed the door and made sure no one outside the door heard their conversation.
"Let's not rush at first, we first need to have a general understanding of the current environment. From the moment we enter the castle gate, we turn straight to the right and after passing through three iron gates to the right rear of the castle. This is supposed to be the castle's back garden, and here is the castle that I can see, and there are three pairs of centaurs here and on each side...... "Orlan dipped his fingers in the cup of still warm and steaming tea, leaving a string of water stains on the smooth wooden tabletop.
He had a map of the area they were passing through on his table, as well as the number and location of enemies that were visible or possibly hidden in the shadows. Then he looked up at the incomprehensible expressions of the two standing in front of him, and continued.
"Our room was just outside the second floor of the castle and the window was right facing the garden at the back, which served as a retreat for us. We've all seen the castle from afar, and it's not an exaggeration to say that it's built entirely on a cliff. The garden at the rear is undoubtedly a cliff beyond that, but I'm sure we can always get out of there, after all, this is also the retreat of the castle owner, isn't it? β
"Well, I agree. The location of this castle is easy to defend and difficult to attack, but if it does fall on the day, the cliff may be a way out. Lillian answered.
"But it's not enough to know that, I'm familiar with the rest of the castle. You see we can go up and down the stairs on both sides, and then this is the way to the castle hall, which is big enough for this dinner. This area is the kitchen where the servants work, and this area is their residence......" Yulia then continued to draw an overview of some other areas of the castle on the "map" that had not yet been done, although it may not be exhaustive enough for the entire castle, but after the discussion of the three of them, they worked out different "combat ranges" and "escape routes".
As the clock ticked down, the dinner was about to begin......
"Ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for accepting my invitation to this dinner at the foot of the Γ land Mountains, filled with the aroma of the Grand Rye of the Fruitful Season. Odingenan sits at the confluence of two rivers, Sural and Missili, adjacent to the current location of Pagain Castle. I would like to say that Pagain has been deeply associated with Odingenum since a hundred years ago, and although for various reasons it still cannot fall into the arms of Pagain, this has not shaken my love for this land and its people. β
"Allow me to compare Odingenan to the Pearl of the North, it may not be now, but it will certainly be in the future. As we all know, the Aland Mountains are rich in endless resources. From copper and iron deposits, gold, silver and gemstones, to exotic birds and rare animals, grass and vegetation, as long as you want or what the nobles need, there are all here. In recent years, I have been carrying on my father's legacy and have been working on the cultivation and development of every piece of land in Odinnang, especially the construction of the port, and I believe that those ships will continue to carry our goods and bring them to the east of the north and even to every corner of the north......"
The man in the center of the castle hall exudes the grace and luxury of an aristocratic celebrity from head to toe, and the sable fur shawl he wears shows everyone the nobility he inherited from his ancestors. In fact, strictly speaking, except for people with "titles" like him, they are not nobles in the real sense.
Although most of the squires who have a little money and fame can be called aristocratic lords, this "nobleman" is not the other "noble", and the two are two classes that are completely incomparable. Whether in terms of "territory", "wealth", "power" or even "force", they cannot be compared together.
Baron Pagain continued to speak after a long speech: "Of course, the prosperity of Odingenan is inseparable from every nobleman here, and now that times have changed, the way out for the old and new nobles is to unite and seek common development. As you have seen over the years, I am not a pedantic and stubborn person who thinks highly of myself. Because the aristocracy that may be like that will eventually disappear into the long river of history with the passage of time......"
