Chapter 45: The Fall of Chiapas
The Passing of the Ancient Dragon Chiapas.
Legend has it that the ancient dragon Chiapas slept on the old shore, and over time became an island-like being, with lush forests and a small number of dwarves living on it.
It didn't wake up from its dreams until the end of the Divine War, when all the ancient dragons were on the verge of extinction. Unfortunately, however, it happened to be bumped into by a passing deity whose name was unknown. At this point, the battle between the ancient dragon and the god began again.
I saw a spear made of thunder and lightning emerge from the god's hand, bursting out with a blinding light like the sun. Unfortunately, the spear does not seem to hit Chiapas, instead falling into the ground and piercing it into the abyss...... Eventually, Chiapas and the gods vanished, but no one found the colossal corpse of the ancient dragon.
"The Fall of Chiapas", a huge sinkhole that suddenly appeared in the dense forest north of Odinger, is called so. Because it is rumored to be connected to the abyss, and the corpse of Chiapas, which people want to disappear, ends up in the abyss. Not because of the defeat or mistake of a god.
Of course, it will not be described in the name of the miracle of God that this ominous and unclean sinkhole has fallen because of it. Few people even approach here. With the exception of certain special groups, such as the "Faceless Church".
The Faceless Cult believes in the depths of the Abyss, where all living beings return when they die. It was pure and quiet for them, the embrace of God, the origin of humanity and soul.
So the church was built in the closest place to the abyss, the fall of Chiapas.
Oran and Lillian were on the verge of falling, and as far as the eye could see, the lush trees and the vibrant forest all disappeared and fell silent. It's as if everything has been swallowed up by this huge sinkhole. Visually more than 500 feet wide, and down to at least 450 feet deep.
However, this is the destination of Oran. Lillian couldn't believe Orlan would want to go down from such a steep cliff face without any protection. After all, they couldn't find more than 400 feet of rope anywhere on.
"Oran, I know you're strong, but that doesn't mean you can go down a rock wall like this that even a monkey can't climb. And at such a high height, you will be crushed if you miss. Lillian glanced down the cliff, a little dizzy.
"You probably didn't notice that there are still some places to stay on the rock wall. Look at the square stones, and the branches, and the trees. This is clearly a passage deliberately left by the 'host' for visitors. Orlan pointed to the rock wall in the distance.
"I've never seen a guest tested in this way, obviously just wanting him to die." Lillian protested.
"You're right, that's the test...... Or rather, the trial, the trial that belongs to me. So, you wait for me here, and I'll go back when I go. ”
Orlan walked to the edge of the cliff, smiled and glanced back at Lillian, then stepped forward. As Oran's body fell sharply, Lilian's heart seemed to fall into the abyss.
As Lillian looked down the cliff, Orlan landed firmly on a pillar jutting out of the rock face, and he waved upward.
Orlan then jumped, climbed, grabbed, hung, and swung, spiraling down the bumps in the rock face. At first, Lillian was terrified, afraid that one of his mistakes would be shattered. But as Oran's whole figure continued to descend and become smaller, until the dense forest at the bottom of the pit blocked the view......
For ordinary people, perhaps only after years of rigorous and professional training can climb the rock wall with bare hands, which requires not only the strength of the limbs and the coordination of the body, but also the super endurance as a guarantee. And the Faceless Church has trained such people, and "height" alone cannot stop this group of people.
It took almost two hours for Orlan to reach the bottom of the pit, but it wasn't too early for joy that the trial had just begun.
It turns out that the seemingly dense jungle at the bottom of the pit is just the details of a tree. Right! A large tree similar to the Giant Tree Camp, a large tree that can be inhabited by small animals like humans.
Orlan was not alone in the canopy, as he could see the bones scattered on the branches of the giant trees, which were mostly the remnants of some giant beasts. It's not just about falling to death, you can see in some of the details of the bones, which seem to have been squeezed, ground and digested.
In other words, it is bone debris that is excreted by other organisms. So Orlan is not alone, there should be many other big guys waiting for him.
According to common sense, ordinary beasts would not easily approach this giant tree, as if this giant tree had an innate deterrent ability that made them feel afraid. But the situation at this moment can no longer be fathomed by common sense, because the danger has already arisen.
Hiding above the trunk of a tree, Orlan could hear a sparse sound coming from below, as if the scales rubbed against the bark of the tree, and there seemed to be the breath of snakes, and there were more than one.
Snakes almost always use their tongues to capture signals from their prey in the air, and then rely on some kind of thermal sensory organ in their head to lock onto their prey. Now that Orlan was almost above them, they seemed a little restless, but they hadn't found their exact target yet.
Because at this time, Oran was in a state of "hiding", and it was not as simple as hiding his body. The most important thing is to control the "breathing" of the whole body, not just the breath-holding of the lungs, but also the breath-holding of the skin and pores.
This kind of cultivation mainly comes from the continuous exploration and research of the inner mysteries of the human body, and the results of countless experiences and accumulations. From the inside out, from the internal organs to the various organs and blood, the control of a person's body can reach an extreme.
In order to make a person feel free to "fit" with any environment or even living beings around them, this is also something practiced by the Faceless Church, and they practice this ability to disguise, hide, stealth, and assassinate, adapting to different environments in a variety of different ways.
Therefore, they firmly believe that the ultimate in the thousands of changes in human beings is "nothing", and "nothing" is "everything".
Although Orlan had not yet mastered that "nothing" realm, he had at least escaped the eyes and noses of those giant basilisks.
Giant basilisk, Orlan finally got a glimpse of a part of them. It was a pure black snake, much larger than the likes of a giant python in the average population, and it was no longer enough to describe its stout size with a few buckets.
The most conspicuous thing is the "horns" on the top of their heads, which resemble the antlers of a deer, or dragon's horn. One can't help but wonder if this snake is still related to a creature like a dragon?
