Chapter 235: A Special Visitor
Harvey's study welcomed a special visitor, a guest from Norton, and most importantly Harvey did not know him, but had only heard his name from the mouth of the Count of Henrietta.
The honorary president of the Literary Society, Vaughn Hall, was a major figure in the Norton literary scene.
When Harvey heard that someone had come from Norton to visit him, the first thing that came to mind was Count Henrietta, with whom Harvey had only crossed paths. So this special guest in front of him really surprised Harvey, remembering that he should have nothing to do with him, except for those media smears that Harvey thought were painless.
"It is an honor to meet you, Dear Mr. Harvey Adrian, and I am Vonee Hall, Honorary President of the Norton Literary Society." Vonne Hall took off his hat and saluted, his eyebrows were very light, and he couldn't say that his face was full of flesh, but his face was certainly not much better, and he gave people a grim impression for no reason.
Harvey got up from his chair and shook hands with him with a smile and smiled: "Please take a seat, I didn't expect that my small and gloomy study could welcome such a distinguished guest, if I knew that you were coming, I would definitely arrange a reception dinner for you." โ
"It doesn't have to be so, this visit is only for some inconsequential matters, and besides, it is a great honor for me, a man of false duty, to be received by you." Vaughn replied politely, his tone too bland and didn't sound very sincere.
Hush Han asked warmly, and Harvey, who was still thinking about revising the details of "Dark Age" in his head, asked straight to the point: "Oh~ I don't know if I have anything to help you." โ
Sitting down, Vonne Hall did not forget to hold the cane, stared at Harvey and squeezed out a smile and said: "Mr. Adrian, you should know that the Literary Association is about to usher in the election of a new president, which is of great significance to the current literary world, the mainstream literature has ushered in the impact of the times, and someone is urgently needed to lead the current literature to find a new direction of development." โ
His smile is really not very good-looking, like a lone wolf hiding in the jungle, cold and ruthless.
"Of course, I heard it from Count Henrietta." Harvey made a point of mentioning the name of Count Henrietta as he watched his expression.
Vaughn Hall wasn't much surprised to hear Harvey's name come out of his mouth, but the gloom on his face was heavier, and he coughed and said, "That's what I'm here for." โ
Harvey asked in a deep voice, "Do you want me to support your election as president?" โ
Vaughan Hall shook his head, "No, Mr. Adrian, neither you nor I are stupid, at least not as stupid as Count Henrietta, and I am very sorry for my offends. I know you're very interested in magic, and as a token of my apologies, I've bought a large batch of materials from Norton's Magic Store to give to you, and I'm certainly not stupid enough to be extravagant enough to get you to support my election as president of the Literary Society. โ
Magic materials?
A strange look on Harvey's face flashed, it seemed that now all of Norton's magic shops had been acquired by the Cromwell Chamber of Commerce, and as long as Harvey wanted it, a steady stream of magic materials would be transported to Elroy City by steam train.
"What do you mean?"
Vaughan Hall stared at Harvey, lowered his voice and said word by word: "I hope you will not interfere in the election of the president this time, as it has always been the same, the literary world is not worth mentioning in your eyes, but I can guarantee that if I am elected as the president of the literary association, I will be willing to support all your actions, at least in Norton's literary community, no one will dare to question your authority." โ
Harvey was stunned for a moment, and replied dumbly: "This condition sounds tempting, but I'm sorry, I'm not interested in disputes in the literary world, even if someone questions my work, in my opinion, it's not a bad thing, there are a thousand counts of Monte Cristo in the eyes of a thousand people, and my work will never be loved by everyone, will it?" โ
Vaughn Hall frowned, his expression becoming more and more ugly: "I am surprised by your tolerance, but such cooperation is not a bad thing for you and me, Count Henrietta has paid the price for his stupidity, he has no place in the literary world of Norton, and it is not good for you to support such a person." โ
Harvey spread his hands and said unhurriedly: "Mr. Hall, I think you have misunderstood. โ
"What do you mean by that?" Vaughn Hall was even more confused.
Harvey chuckled playfully: "That sentence just now is not my kind words, it is literal, I will not interfere in the disputes of the Literary Association without you saying it, let alone publicly show support for Count Henrietta, isn't it all your work to tie me up with Count Henrietta?" At least you've succeeded in creating such an illusion in the outside world. โ
Vaughan Hall was stunned, Harvey's words completely shattered his cognition, he took it for granted that Harvey and Count Henrietta were tied to one camp, he couldn't guess Harvey's mind, wasn't Harvey constantly helping Count Henrietta all along?
"Please go back, I'm sorry I can't accept those gifts, I have no intention of taking either side."
Von Hall thought half of what and let out a disdainful sneer: "Mr. Adrian, you need to understand that those caught in the battlefield will always be torn apart by the cavalry of both sides at the first time, and those who vacillate between different positions will never be reused. โ
"You're mistaken again."
Vaughan Hall: "ยทยทยทยทยทยท"
"I am not on either side in this election dispute, but I do lean in favor of the Count of Henrietta in my position, and I am not so generous as to be indifferent to those who have smeared me and offended my dignity." Harvey looked at him with a smile, revealing a little contempt: "I mean even without my help, Count Henrietta could easily win this election of the president." โ
Vaughn Hall clenched the cane in his hand and sneered as if he heard a big joke: "Ridiculous! Now that guy's reputation in Norton's social circles has plummeted, and no one in the literary world is on his side, what is he going to do to win this election? โ
He felt angry, it was the first time he had been despised since he climbed to this position, and he was still a hairy boy.
"Then we'll see, please come back, Mr. Vonne Hall." Harvey waved his hand and gave the eviction order.
Vaughan Hall stood up and gave Harvey a deep look, snorted coldly, straightened his clothes and didn't look back to the study where he left, his right hand holding the cane was blue and white. He wanted to know the meaning of Harvey's words more than the anger of being slighted, and why Harvey was so optimistic about Count Henrietta.
