Act Eighty-Five: The New Master of the Mine
The new owner of the mine in Act 85 (the third update, so stay tuned)
"No, Sister Nimesis."
Nimesis laughed, but immediately became stern again: "You have been careful lately, that kid has been restless again lately." But they're quite stealthy this time, and I can't catch them for the time being—"
Freya looked up and looked at her with some concern.
"It's okay," the black-haired female knight took a breath, "I'm here, just be careful." ”
With that, she looked up at the sky in the direction where the carriage had disappeared. The northern sky was a little overcast, as if a terrible storm was being bred.
But will this storm come before the depths of winter?
Nobody knows.
Nimesis only knew that the academy had begun to grow in fear, that the last frontier of the kingdom might not be a haven, but the center of a great maelstrom of the future, and that this brief tranquility was only an illusion of the silence that preceded the storm.
At least the female knight understood that in the north, in the free port of Ampesel, a war that could not be seen was about to begin.
She turned her head and took a deep look at Freya.
"Are you up to the task?" She asked.
"What?" Freya was stunned.
The would-be Valkyrie's stunned look amused Nimesis, who covered her mouth slightly, and replied with some amusement, "Nothing—"
……
And in the last days of this complicated frost moon, it seems that everything has come together, when the situation in the north becomes shaky, the same time flies, and in the blink of an eye, two weeks have passed in the Schavrund mine.
The incident that scares everyone turns out to be a farce, which at first spreads around the town but is soon forgotten.
People are always forgetful, except for those who are injured and the families of the dead who remember this day forever and deeply, most of them return to their original life trajectory after just a week.
On the surface, the Schavrend mine appears to be unchanged, remaining old for decades. But beneath the surface, something is slowly changing.
First of all, since Brando and the others left the underground, Kuran's movements have been restricted. At Brando's signal, the old man announced that he would temporarily transfer a position in the mine to Ogins, and then recuperate behind closed doors - and as for the timid clerk - he surrendered completely when Brando and Medisa broke into his office.
Now there are more than twenty mercenaries at the peak of black iron in disguise, and after being closely monitored by this clerk twenty-four hours a day, even if he borrows 100,000 guts, he will not dare to play any tricks.
In fact, contrary to what Brando had expected, Okins now seems to be a little more timid and diligent than ever, so much so that he has received some praise among his uninformed civilian officials.
The deputies probably thought that their adults had taken up the work of the entire mine on their shoulders, and finally repented and became pragmatic and willing to work.
Even the spies who had been sent by Count Denel to spy on the young man had been praised in the report for two weeks in a row.
Of course, each of these reports was in Brando's hands. When Brando showed the reports to the timid clerk, the young man named Okins scolded his mother for the first time.
Of course, after scolding, he looked around cautiously, as if he was afraid that Count Denel's disrespect would be heard by the eyeliner around him.
It's called mud not holding up to the wall—Brando shook his head involuntarily.
However, in order to appease the timid and ambitious clerk, Brando made a promise to him that he would not reveal the details of his work for them to anyone in the future, only that he would be imprisoned and that someone similar to him would be found to replace him.
Although this lie seems to be dismantled immediately, it at least gives our Clerk a psychological comfort. Now he is often in constant fear, and he lives with this psychological comfort.
As for Kuran, he was sent to Fir City the next day, and when the old man saw Charles, he knew he couldn't run. However, he still rejected Brando's overtures, intentionally or unintentionally, and instead demanded that the latter keep his promise and let him go when the time was up.
When he saw the report, Brando smiled and shook his head at his desk in a room in the Trout Inn in the woods in the town of Shavlund.
Kuran was clearly related to his grandfather, but the old swordsman had been silent since he left the ground.
The young man had the intention of finding out the truth of the secret from the other party, but in his nature he was not in a hurry, he had a way anyway - and now he had more important things to do.
So he put the matter aside for a moment, and looked back at the petite back of the merchant lady who was buried in the pile of books—after leaving the ground, he reprimanded the disobedient lady.
However, he had expected Roman to ignore him for several days, but when he left the mines, the young woman, who claimed to be a great merchant, held him by the hand tightly, as if he was holding some important treasure and was afraid of losing it.
This made Brando regret a little, and felt that he was not too heavy on the language.
Unexpectedly, within a few hours, this young lady would sprout and become swaggering again. It wasn't until the Sparrow arrived, and Brando instructed Juta to make a copy of the account book from the mine and send it out, that little Roman really regained his mind.
She's been working for two days, and she's progressing incredibly fast—there does seem to be an innate talent for businessmen -- to discern what she wants from a complex of numbers and shorthand.
Fortunately, Vaughn's bookkeeping method was actually quite simple and still in its primitive stage, and Roman quickly investigated the deficits of Oakins and others, and counted some loopholes in the accounts one by one.
However, Brando knew that it was not yet time to make a drastic reckoning with the mines, and that at least nominally the place would be under the jurisdiction of Count Denel, and that neither he nor Roman could simply enter the mines to meet with Yuta, who had previously attracted the attention of the spies in the mines.
In fact, the twenty or so newly planted mercenaries went in, all in the name of needing to replenish the dead and wounded soldiers in the mining accident, and it didn't take long for Count Denel not to let too many unfamiliar faces appear in the area under his jurisdiction.
At most, a month's worth of new soldiers will be replenished - of course, Brando can thwart it, but it will be two months at most.
Two months, enough for Brando.
So he pressed the matter and waited for the future to settle the score. However, in addition to the most urgent thing at the moment, some small things also gave him a headache.
For example, the teenagers who came out of the ground with them - Kirwen, Choka and Maher. Brando admired the emaciated boy, or the future King of Jean Denel, very much - because what Brando knew and had seen proved that this boy would never be willing to be an ordinary man.
And in fact, this is confirmed by the emaciated teenager's underground cousin.
To Brando's surprise, however, Cowen refuses his offer, and the boy makes it clear that he and his friends will leave the place - to explore the outside world according to their original plan.
This news made Brando a little pity, so that the king of Denel was not an ordinary person, but he also knew that this kind of person could not be forced to stay, so he could only let them stay in the town of Shavrund for a while, and wait until two months later before choosing whether to stay or leave.
On the other hand, Brando failed to stay with the people who should have stayed. What should not have been stayed, but stayed.
The odd old dwarf, who claimed to be the only descendant of the rune dwarves - and seemed to have confirmed it as if his cousin in the underworld had confirmed it - of course it wasn't a big deal, and what really made Brando a little strange was that this guy seemed to be in front of him all the time, consciously or unconsciously, these days.
Of course, the old dwarf with a bad temper didn't necessarily give his titular lord a good look, but at least he wasn't as cold as before.
However, for this reason, Brando still quietly put away the sword of the earth, he was originally worried that the old dwarf's purpose was actually this, but he did not expect that after he put the sword away, the other party was still the same as always- as if it was not affected in the slightest.
In this regard, Brando can only attribute the other party's behavior to a nervous problem, and then turn his head and ignore this guy.
Because within a few days, another, more important matter completely diverted his attention-
Tiger Sparrow arrives at the mine with them, and they will find a way to secretly transport all the silver ore stored in the warehouse in the town of Zài Shavrund, smelt it, and send it to the fir collar to be minted into currency.
At the same time, the Tiger Sparrow has good news for Brando.
In fact, on the third day of their departure, Charles found Grudin's private mint from a nearby estate. However, there is a small episode in between - the noble private soldiers hiding in the manor, after realizing that their whereabouts have been revealed, immediately close the gate to the mercenaries and shout to resist to the last man.
This behavior obviously angered the leader of a small mercenary group who had defected to Brando, who was leading the team at the time, and that guy was called Madelan, and his fiery temper was more widely known than his strength. So he was going to teach these mercenaries a lesson.
Since they are going to resist to the last man, then he has to fulfill their wishes
But just as the powder keg was about to harden, our young wizard vetoed his request, and Charles had only one thing to say to Madelan: wait and see.
This sentence worked wonders.
Only the next day, the noble private soldiers who were still invincible waved the white flag, opened the door and surrendered. Although the mercenaries present at the time were mysterious about the inscrutable nature of this wizard.
But soon, they realized that it wasn't a big deal.
The reason is simple.
By this time the news of Sir Minthai's fiasco had spread throughout Toniger -
