Chapter 16: The Red Shadow
As usual, Batman stood on a dripping beast and looked down on the city. The homicide investigation is at an impasse, with no evidence of the Mad Hatter's actions being monitored and no progress on police leads. But it's just one of all the headless cases in Gotham. Crime doesn't wait for you to solve one case before the next one happens, and the daily night watch is still necessary.
Gotham was quiet tonight, there were no gunshots, no screams, and this happened a few times in a while, and every time this happened in the past, it was a rare time for him to go back early to rest.
But today he had no intention of ending his night tour early, standing on the top of a tall building, and letting the night wind blow his cloak rattle. He couldn't remember how long it had been since a single person patrolled, first Dick and then Jason ....
[You seem to prefer to go on patrol with Master Jason]
Alfred, the man who raised him, always saw through many things, including things he didn't even notice himself.
Dick always complained about where he went, what he was going to do, and what he was doing, and he didn't know how to act as a team, and Dick quarreled with him a lot about it. When Jason came, he always unconsciously called Jason and told him what he wanted to do and what he should do, and Dick always had some dissatisfaction with this, and he could see these grievances without Alfred telling him.
It never occurred to him to compare Dick and Jason, who were completely different. Dick has Dick's own way, even being Robin doesn't change his nature, watching the kid churning in the air, sometimes Bruce thinks Dick has the whole of Gotham as the stage he knows best.
Jason is more like him than Dick, not only in terms of personality but also in Jason's behavior patterns.
Alfred said it was the result of Jason's unconscious imitation of him.
Is there one?
Yes.
Seeing his own shadow in a child gave Bruce a subtle sense of satisfaction.
Dick has his own style in whatever he does, throwing batarangs like throwing knives, dodging enemy attacks like dancing, and as a descendant of a family of trapeze, he uses the whole of Gotham as the venue for his own flying performances. Those were the legacies left to him by his biological parents. Bruce never felt that there was anything wrong with this, as long as he could achieve his goal, he didn't care about the way, not to mention that Dick was a very good boy, and watching that child grow up, it made him proud.
It wasn't until Alfred talked about it that he noticed that Jason's movements were almost exactly a copy of him.
Dick was his first child to adopt, but it wasn't until Jason that he realized what the word father really meant.
It doesn't mean that a sheltered house, a warm bed, and plenty of food give it that title. For children who don't know anything, your behavior will be their first template for exposure to the world. Jason lived for more than ten years before he met Bruce, but it wasn't until he came into contact with Bruce that he really began to get in touch with the world. So he mimics Batman's behavior to re-engage with criminals he had to avoid before, and learns how to socialize by imitating Bruce's appearance at a party.
These actions, which even Jason himself was unaware of, gave Bruce a wonderful satisfaction different from being proud of Dick's upbringing.
In addition to these, the child also had some strange quirks that were incomprehensible, such as the fact that the child actually had his favorite dripping beast, and he named it "Fat Face" because the dripping beast's face was larger than the others. Dick, who heard this rhetoric, deliberately took a ruler and measured all the decorative dripping beasts of Gotham, and came to the conclusion that it was not bigger than the others, but this did not affect Jason from continuing to call it "Fat Face".
Jason likes to sit on the head of this dripping beast, or lie on it. With his own unique favorite dripping beast, Jason is the only one Bruce knows.......
A piercing scream from a distance interrupts Batman's memories that Gotham will never give you time to miss.
Batman came back to his senses from his contemplation, and jumped off the dripping beast called "Fat Face" with a light tiptoe, and the huge cloak opened in time, allowing the night wind of Gotham to lift the weight of the Dark Knight and glide towards the screaming place....
The robberies in Gotham never end, and the worst part is usually accompanied by gunfire.
This time the shots rang out, but the bullets failed to reach the frightened woman opposite. A strong arm gripped the robber's hand with the pistol, and the crooked barrel shot the bullet into the wall to the side, scattering the debris of the bullet with no small amount of force.
Batman glanced coldly at the woman who was targeted, judging from the way she was dressed, she should be an out-of-town tourist, and she was carrying a large backpack.
Another of the robbers' accomplices rushed over and slammed a baseball bat into Batman's head. With just a flick of his hand, the robber who was originally controlled by him was thrown on his accomplice like an object, and the huge impact slammed the two people into the debris pile on the side and did not move.
“... Thanks..."
Without waiting for the woman to say thank you, Batman left the scene like a ghost, leaving everything here to the whistle of the siren.
Batman didn't go far, just stood on the roof not far away and watched the police car arrive, carrying the two unconscious robbers into the police car while asking the out-of-town female tourist for transcripts.
I scanned the streets and alleys within my sight, trying to determine if these robbers still had accomplices, the labyrinthine alleys were empty, and it seemed that this was just a temporary robbery by two people.
Seeing that the police had completed their mission this time, everything was taken care of, both the victim and the robber were taken into the police car, and the streets were quiet again.
Batman also decided to leave after standing for a while, and after a round of patrol, he went back to avoid Ah Fu's nagging. But just as he was about to leave, a conspicuous red color suddenly appeared around the corner of the alley and caught his attention.
Only a small corner could be seen from his angle, and it fell silently from the roof, slowly walking towards the corner. When he reached the corner, the silence aroused his alarm.
Suddenly came out of the corner, only to find that the red shadow flashed around the corner in front of him again and disappeared.
This time Batman saw it very realistically, and the figure looked exactly like Jason. hurriedly chased after him, and the red figure flashed again at the entrance of the alley in front of him.
This time, Batman didn't catch up, but took out his grappling gun and led him to the highest point of the nearby building, but the red shadow was completely lost in the condescending vantage range..........
