Chapter Eighty-Three: A Long Memory
The night obscured the rolling dark clouds, and a dull thunder came from the clouds, and occasionally the light of lightning passed through the clouds, but it was blocked by the heavy clouds, and only a faint sheen glowed.
The Batmobile took advantage of the darkness to stop in a remote corner, and the pitch-black body blended in perfectly with its surroundings. Batman sat in the cockpit and looked out the window at the empty street.
The alley is deserted anymore, and a massive chemical leak has made it rare for gangs to come here, except for the occasional homeless who are nowhere else to go.
It's easy to get caught up in memories and it's easy to get caught up in emotions. Bruce sat in the car and looked down the street, thinking back to every detail that had gone before. Eventually, he opened the door and jumped out of the car.
Follow the alley in memory towards your destination. Narrow alleyways, broken windows, and familiar surroundings overlap the memory of that night.
He beat up a couple of Scarecrow's men here that night, got the Scarecrow's latest poison gas samples from them, and then after walking through that garbage-filled alley, he saw the boy.
Bruce stopped, standing in the darkness of the alleyway as he had done back then, observing the environment on the other side. Nothing much has changed, except that there is no more accumulated garbage in that bin.
He came out of the shadows and walked in that direction as he had done back then. The strong memory caused the illusion of vision, there was a void bat rover parked, and then the apparition of a boy was laboriously removing the tires from the car, and the bottom of the car was thoughtfully padded with a few broken bricks, he walked over and said a word, which seemed to frighten the child, raised his head and stared at him with a pair of green and turquoise eyes, emaciated cheeks, prominent cheekbones, and those bright and abnormal eyes all indicate that the child is in a long-term hunger.... This scene was deeply engraved in Bruce's mind at this moment.
"I've been waiting for you for a long time"
A voice from behind tore through the illusion of the memory, and Batman turned to see an adult man of his size, dressed in a lean outfit, with a red hood and a brown biker jacket stained with blood.
"Where is he?"
The Joker must have fallen into the hands of the Red Hood, and if he guessed correctly, the blood stains on the Red Hood jacket should be the Joker's.
"You seem to be in a good mood, do you remember something?"
Instead of answering his question, Red Hood asked instead.
Reminded by the question of the red hood, Batman realized that the corners of his mouth were slightly upturned, and it turned out that just a memory could make him laugh from the bottom of his heart.
"Where is he?"
Asked the question again, he knew that Red Hood hadn't killed the Joker yet, and that he had spared the badly injured Harley just to get him to come... There was no clear evidence of what he was going to do, but if his guess was correct, then he was invited to watch a bloody killing show.
He can't let that happen, and anyone who kills the Joker can choose to turn a blind eye, as long as the Joker's death doesn't cause any other negative effects. But only the red hood can't.... Jason can't.
"You care about him?"
Through the filtering of the cold machinery, the question, which sounded like no mood swings, was filled with a suspicion of some kind of madness.
โ..... Give him to me."
"Oh, and then what? Well... Are you sending him to Arkham, and then running out when he's tired of being in there and killing those innocent little pitifuls by the way? It's pitiful, do those who die know that the man they see as heroes is the culprit responsible for their death? โ
Red Hood slowly approached, and Batman could tell what he meant from the sound of the mech-heednessโhe was going to kill the Joker!
That's normal, isn't it? That's why he was resurrected, to take revenge on the Joker, for revenge on Gotham's crimes..... Also for revenge on Batman.
"I won't let you kill him"
He had to stop all of this, he had to stop Jason from continuing to be consumed by hatred, to stop the boy from going in the direction he had expected in the first place.
This sentence was like a switch being flipped in force, and the mocking words of the red hood could not even hide the mechanical sound of the collective name:
"You can try it!"
Throw a dart at Batman. The attack came suddenly, but Batman never let up. Quickly dodging the darts, he then launched a counterattack against the Red Hood. Two darts were thrown and flew towards Red Hood's legs.
This tentative attack was easily cracked, with Red Hood stepping on a dart on his left foot while the other batrang was interrupted by a short dagger in his hand.
Batman stared at the serpentine dagger in his hand, he knew how sharp it was, it had cut the universal belt around his waist in the last encounter.
The red hood flickered for a moment, then immediately turned and ran. Batman judged that it was a trap at the first time, but he had to catch up with it.
"Humph! Come along! โ
Red Hood ran as fast as he could, and the movement behind him indicated that the "fish" he was about to catch had bitten the hook deadly.
In a distraction, there was a sound of air tearing behind him, without a trace of hesitation, he quickly climbed the safety ladder of the building next to him with the help of the wall, and the two sharp Batman failed to cut into the set target, and slashed from the original position of the red hood and nailed it deeply into the wall on the side. That kind of strength shows that Batman is really moving.
"Humph! , then I'll show some real skills! โ
Glancing at the black figure following behind him, the red hood quickly climbed up the fire ladder. The previous speed didn't give the Red Hood much of an advantage, and there was a crisp sound of breaking wind in the air, and after the sound of the iron anchor hitting the wall, the black figure quickly climbed onto the roof of the same house with the help of a rope, continuing the marathon chase.
"Cut! I really miss your gadgets! โ
Batman didn't intend to give him much time to sigh, and as soon as he got up to the roof, he immediately put the rope in his hand towards the red hood. After being dodged by the prepared red hood for the first time, he slipped it on his next jump.
The man in the air turned around and tried to cut the rope as he did that time, but this time the sharp blade unexpectedly failed to cut the rope, and Batman tightened the rope in time and slammed the red hood to the ground.
"Uh... Is this a deliberate effort to strengthen the rope? โ
Batman's slender and ordinary rope is already a high-tech product, and its slender thickness can also meet the needs of maintaining strength at an extra-long length. However, this one has obviously been strengthened, and it seems that the level of high-tech nanofiber materials of Wayne Enterprises has been raised to a new level.
Scattered rain began to fall in the air, and Batman slowly walked towards the man lying on the ground........
