Chapter 66: Perception
As night fell, the grounded Jason skillfully hacked several cameras near the manor, creating a few minutes for himself to sneak out of the manor on Robin's motorcycle.
Bruce will definitely be angry when he finds out, but Jason can't let Zack's affairs go unattended, and the importance of the black doctor to the bottom society of Gotham is not at all understood by a big young master like Bruce. Not only do they treat the gangsters, but they are also the only medical treatment for those who simply cannot afford to go to a major hospital, and the cessation of Zach will mean that no one in this area will be able to get medical help.
Riding a motorcycle all the way to the neighborhood where Zack lived, hiding the motorcycle in the nearest drainage system, and after thinking about it, he put on a set of ordinary clothes on the outside of his uniform, Robin's reason to find Zach was really not enough or Jason. Todd's identity is a bit more appropriate.
Jason, who poked his head out of a sewer closest to Zack's old apartment, looked around to make sure no one was there, and then crawled out of it.
After following Batman for so long, Jason has completely engraved the map of the drainage system of the Gotham underground in his mind, and if he remembers correctly, the building on the left hand side after coming out of here is where Zach is currently hiding.
Following the memory around to the semi-basement, Jason reached out to knock on the door only to find it open.
Frowning his brows, Jason slowly pushed open the door as he got ready, the rusty iron door made a heavy grinding sound in the darkness, pulled out a bat mark and hid it in the palm of his hand, and slowly walked along the open door.
Jason regretted a little, he should have come over as Robin, it would be much easier for him to do it this way.
The darkness weakened his vision but amplified the other human senses, and Jason heard a faint grinding sound, presumably between the soles of his shoes and the ground.
Someone came from behind, and when the hand was about to grab his shoulder, Jason quickly grabbed the hand and threw it over the shoulder, and then turned over and rode on the person who sneaked up on him, and before the raised fist could fall, the person under him hurriedly said:
"Jason, it's me"
“... Zack? What are you doing?"
The moonlight poured down through the cracks in the clouds, bringing a little light to the dark room, and Jason did see that the guy he had pinned to the ground did indeed have Zack's face.
"I'm just going to ask you, what are you doing. Didn't Gotham Baby tell you? ”
Zach rubbed his sore back, Jason's strength was much greater, and he was a little uncomfortable.
"Tell me what?"
Zach mentions Bruce, which surprises Jason.
“... No.. Nothing, this is not where you should be now, you are Bruce now. Wayne's adopted son, beware of being targeted and kidnapped"
"Zach"
"What the hell is that rich man doing, letting a child come here alone in the middle of the night"
"Zach, your level of diversion" sucks"
Of course, Jason would not be deceived by Zach's sloppy acting, he was already surprised that Bruce would be grounded for that kind of thing, and now it seems that something is wrong with him, but everyone is hiding it from him.
"Black Mask is looking for your dad everywhere and they can't find him.."
"So they hit me with attention?"
"Yes, everyone who has a relationship with your father is the target of Black Mask's pursuit"
"Including you"
"yes, I'm leaving Gotham tomorrow to go somewhere else, and you don't want to come here anymore, stay in Bruce. Wayne's side, don't run around alone"
"It's stupid, that man doesn't care about my life or death at all"
"Black Mask doesn't think so, you're his son, how much do you know about something that others don't know"
Jason understands why Bruce suddenly put him under house arrest, but after knowing the reason, it makes him even more unhappy that he is always treated like a child who doesn't grow up.
"Do you know the man's whereabouts?"
"No, it's like water vapor has evaporated"
“.... I can't die early."
"Jason"
Zach suddenly grabbed Jason's shoulder and said very seriously:
"You grew up here, and you've heard a lot about Black Masks."
Jason nodded, not only here, but also learned more about the Black Mask from Bruce, and at the same time knew that the rumors he thought were not rumors at all, and the Black Mask was even more brutal than the rumors.
"Listen up to Bruce. Under what name Wayne adopted you, but now you have nothing to do with it. Don't come back, there's nothing you need to care about. Stay with the rich man until the man is found by Black Mask or Black Mask is caught, Bruce. Wayne will protect you, Black Mask isn't crazy enough to go to Wayne Manor to rob people, promise me not to get involved here, okay?"
Zach's hand on Jason's shoulder was so hard that he knew what would happen if Jason fell into Black Mask's hands.
Back in the Batcave, Jason sits in front of his computer and searches for all the information about Black Mask. The vast amount of information retrieved by the computer, and clues that had apparently been added recently, did not seem to be anything out of the ordinary, except for the absence of his father's name.
Jason knew quite well that Bruce couldn't find out that even Zach knew about it, so the only explanation was that he deliberately deleted it.
"Cut!"
Being protected as a ghost makes Jason very unhappy.
What to do? To question Bruce? Whether Bruce admits it or not, he can't change his decision, the grounding must be protection in disguise, and Bruce will never agree to him going out alone.
"Jason. Todd can't just go out, Robin should be able to."
Jason thought about it from a different angle, and it was Jason who Black Mask wanted. Todd, Robin should be out of Black Mask's hunting range.
"Okay, now it's just a matter of finding a reason to convince Bruce"
Jason is quite confident in this reason, Black Mask is looking for the man, and Batman is also looking for the man. Black Mask could have thought of coming to that man through him, Batman couldn't have imagined it, but he didn't let him get involved.
Jason's reason is simple but undeniable, if there is anyone else in this world who can find that man, it is his son. Although I hate him very much and look forward to hearing about his death one day, it is undeniable that there is no one in this world who will know Martin Todd better than Jason Todd.
He was the only one who could find Martin, and he knew everything about the man, including every one of his hiding places, and that man was in contact with the outside through him every time he hid. Now all he needs is to find a way to convince Bruce to let him go to the man....
