Chapter Forty-Nine: The Resurgence of Crime
Gotham is a little windy tonight, and standing on the high ground of the city, it is even more obvious to feel the chill that penetrates the bone marrow. Tim wrapped his cape, trying to block the air from all directions with the high-tech cloak. The unhealed bones began to ache at this temperature, protesting to him against the reckless act.
He had snuck out, and Bruce's attitude made him feel a little concerned. If his guess was correct, Bruce had already begun to perceive the Red Hood. The question is how much is perceived?
Bruce was acting so normally that he wouldn't have thought about it at all if Dick hadn't been forced to leave Gotham because of the death knell.
Knell was hired by Black Mask to take out the Red Hood, which he and Dick didn't know until after the affair was over.
Bruce was hiding from them, and Tim searched all the records of the Batcomputer, and there was no record of Black Mask and Deathstroke making deals, which was nothing like Batman would do.
The detector on the test bench obviously has traces of recent use, but there is no record in the computer, this is definitely not Bruce's style, the only possibility is that Bruce deleted these.
What did he test? Why do you want to delete the results? Something to do with the red hood? Or is it some other reason?
Tim couldn't be sure, he didn't like to draw conclusions without evidence. But this kind of behavior by Bruce has never been done before. This made Tim feel that long-lost sense of repulsion. That feeling of being obviously rejected by Bruce thousands of miles away, he didn't like it! It made him feel like a useless waste, like watching the plot unfold through a TV screen and doing nothing.
Tim crouched on the roof for a moment to keep a watch, which had once been the territory of the Red Hood, but had not yet been able to reopen after the battle with the Black Mask.
The broken décor and storefront have been cleaned up, and judging by the limited sightlines, the landlord should have already started renovating it, and it is estimated that it will not be long before a new owner is ushered in.
After waiting for a while, sighing before the temperature of his body dropped even lower, Tim dragged his somewhat immobile leg and rode on his motorcycle towards his next destination.
This is already the third force he has identified as belonging to the Red Hood. Black Mask's final all-out assault seemed to uproot all of the Red Hood's forces, and almost all of Red Hood's sphere of influence was wiped out.
Could it be that the Red Hood has given up on this wave of power?
Tim pondered the possibility. It didn't take long for Red Hood to come to Gotham, and it was impossible to occupy such a huge territory in such a short period of time by relying solely on intimidation. If his guess is correct, the money earned from the previous votes of the Red Hood is probably all subsidized to this force. Is he willing to give up the power that has been in business for so long?
“... Hopefully he hasn't given up on this force."
This was Tim's heartfelt hope, the Red Hood had a strong anti-reconnaissance ability, and they had not been able to find his stronghold until now. It is certainly impossible for such a cunning guy to have only one or two strongholds.
These forces are their only hope of finding the clues of the Red Hood, and if he gives up on these, it means that all their previous efforts have been in vain, and they need to start over.
After a long time, he finally found the fox's tail, but he slipped away again, and it didn't feel good to abandon it along with the cave.
In his thoughts, Tim finds himself in another stronghold of the Red Hood, which was originally a speakeasy but is still in an abandoned state.
Pushing open the broken door, he cautiously walked inside. The bar was still in the same state as it had been during the riot, with broken bottles scattered all over the floor, and the smell of alcohol in the air had dissipated, and there was a faint smell of dust.
Tim didn't immediately go in to check, he stood in the doorway and activated the function of the mask, and carefully checked the range of vision in this low-intensity light to make sure that there was nothing strange before slowly walking in.
With the help of the instrument, it was easy for him to find some strange clues, such as the still intact part of the bar, which had no floating dust on it; For example, there is no dust on the stools that are still standing.
Is this the owner of this house? Probably not, if the owner wants to rent it out again, he will not let the garbage go here, and it should have been cleaned up like the other houses, or it should be renovated.
Is it a red hood? What is he doing in this ruined house? What will he hide here? It's not like him, Red Hood has only been able to find him until now, no one has ever been able to find him, and Black Mask has attacked all his spheres of influence because of this.
Walking deeper into the bar, the scanner found something under a pile of tattered chairs. Tim walked over and removed the broken stool that covered it, his pupils constricting violently as he saw what was underneath.
It was a children's shoe that probably belonged to a 4-6 year old child, a very ordinary style, the material was not very expensive, and the neutral style could not tell whether it belonged to a boy or a girl. These cheap shoes are a consumer product for the lower classes of the Gotham. Is it a child who came here to play peek-a-boo? It would be nice if it was just that.
Tim took the shoe and continued to search the room. It could just be a kid pulling it down after playing here, and if so, that's the best outcome. But if the worst.....
All of Tim's hopes were dashed when he saw the rope that fell into the corner. Cautiously walked over and picked it up, and a thin layer of ash attached to the rope indicated that the rope had been thrown on the ground from behind......
Tim continued to search the house, and the growing evidence made the possibility more and more likely, and Tim more and more impetuous.
"It seems that some people seem to have taken over the magpie's nest"
Gotham has recently reported several cases of missing children, and children in this ghost city are as common as eating, and basically after reporting the crime, these report records become ashes material, and the possibility of finding them back is almost zero.
The massive pedophilia scandal a few years ago gave impetus to Gotham's program for the protection of minors, and all parliamentarians and police officers involved in it were punished. In the years since, child trafficking in Gotham has been significantly curbed, and the crime rate of human trafficking has dropped as a bright spot for the Gotham Police Department. But in recent years, this kind of thing seems to have a tendency to rise again.
"These bastards!"
