Chapter 18: The Genetic Laboratory

Clark sat bored in front of the computer in the name of overtime, eating takeout while typing the manuscript that had already been written, just when he estimated that Louis and Bruce's dinner should be almost over, even if you count the time when Bruce sent Louis back to her apartment, the set clock made a ticking beep, glanced at the time on the computer, Clark quickly entered the manuscript that had been written into the computer and saved it, turned off the computer and left the office......

Superman is a sight to behold in the metropolis, and thanks to him, the metropolis has one of the lowest crime rates in the United States. But unlike other cities' impression of this man who always appears at the scene of various disasters and uses his super strength to turn the tide and save the public, the influence of the people of the metropolis on Superman is more limited to whose cat he saved.....

Metropolis was originally ranked among the top few in the United States, and since the alien took root here, this kind of routine crime is infinitely close to zero, although the side effect is that the fraud crime rate here has soared, but all this can't change the fact that the main job of this powerful alien in Metropolis is to help the cats who go up the tree but can't get down. The news about Superman that people see in the newspapers is usually that he saved someone's cat, or a naughty child, or an old man with inconvenient legs and feet who has to climb on the roof for some reason. Oh, and the occasional relief from a sudden car accident or something like that, as long as he happens to run into it.

At this moment, the powerful alien quietly landed on the terrace of a presidential suite in the Earl Tower, politely knocked on the floor-to-ceiling glass window a few times, and pushed it open and walked in without waiting for any response from inside.

"Bruce, why did you suddenly come to the Met?"

Clark is very aware of this man's attachment to Gotham, others see the news that Gotham babies are flying around to play and expand their business by the way, only Clark knows that this man is a super otaku who will not take half a step out of Gotham unless it is necessary - the kind of tech nerd.

I don't think Luthor seems to have run much to Gotham lately, could it be that someone from Arkham sneaked into Metropolis?

"Do you just go into someone's room without even saying hello?"

Batman's peculiar, mechanically synthesized hoarse voice came from the dark room.

"I knocked on the window, and you didn't lock it."

Clark shrugged his shoulders indifferently at Bruce's accusation, he knew this man, the unlocked window was reserved for him, and besides Superman, who had nothing to do when he was full, he would climb up to the terrace of the presidential suite nearly 800 meters above the ground in the middle of the night?

Bruce stepped out of the shadows, already dressed in his black uniform, his long cloak dragging on the ground and rubbing against the high-grade wool carpet on the floor, making a slight hissing sound.

Ignoring Clark's words, Bruce walked through Clark to the terrace, estimated the direction of the wind, and then jumped off the luxurious terrace, almost 800 meters above the ground, the huge cloak turning into sturdy wings that carried the man as he glided in the night wind.

Seeing that the figure quickly became smaller, Clark shrugged his shoulders and flew over from the terrace, he felt that he should withdraw his previous thoughts, at least this man might climb to the luxurious terrace of the presidential suite almost 800 meters above the ground in the middle of the night.

Clark flew a little taller, and his classic color scheme stood out even at night. He couldn't understand why Bruce's black uniform made it so hard to spot that he blended perfectly into the night.

After watching in silence as the black shadow glided for a while, it used the hook lock to raise its height, and after a few repetitions, they finally came to the vicinity of a building that Clark was very familiar with, the Lex Research Institute.

In Clark's confusion, Bruce landed like a ghost on the top floor of the research facility. Skillfully prying open a window and getting in. As soon as Clark followed up, he found the surveillance camera in the upper left corner.

"B, there's monitoring here"

Clark no longer calls Bruce by his name when both of them act in uniform, so he simply refers to him with a generic Bruce and Batman title B.

"I've taken care of it"

"Uhhh When? ”

Ignoring Clark's question, Bruce opened the door to the outside hallway of the lab, and the footage he swapped out would only last two hours, so he had to hurry up and determine what he wanted to know.

Wayne had a lot of cooperation with the Lex Group, and he knew exactly where the most important genetic lab of the research institute was.

After passing a few large elevators along the corridor, the two men finally stopped in front of a small elevator in the corner.

Clark watched as Bruce used his laptop to digitally hack into the elevator. After a while, Bruce stopped what he was doing, then inserted his finger into the gap in the elevator door, and with a single force, the elevator door opened, revealing the black hole in the elevator shaft behind the door.

Bruce pulled out his grappling gun and jumped into the bottomless elevator shaft first, leaving Clark with a task:

"Close the door"

Clark entered the elevator shaft and closed the brakeless elevator door again, and then followed Bruce down the long elevator shaft to the lowest level.

Clark knew that Lex had a genetic lab hidden underground, and knew that his main purpose was to clone Superman. But when he finally got here, he was still taken aback by the scale. The scale of this place is almost larger than the scale of the buildings above ground, and with his super vision, he can tell that the structure here is much older than the buildings on the ground.

"This was originally a secret genetic laboratory, because the research project impacted social ethics, so it has always been funded by the Luthor Group, and later Lex directly acquired this land and renovated the above-ground buildings, which were directly included in Lex's subsidiary."

Apparently sensing Clarke's question, Bruce opened his mouth to explain why this place was so large.

As a reporter, Clark of course knows about this, it was the second week of the US Congress to legalize genetic experiments, and the Lex Group announced the acquisition of this place, which was still the name of a biological experiment research institute at that time, although it was revealed more than once before that it was secretly researching genetic experiments that violated ethics and morality, but in the end it was closed because of lack of evidence, but then another question suddenly popped up from Clark's mind:

“.... B, how do you know that? ”
