Chapter 20: Unnecessary Trouble
Gotham is a rare sunny sky tonight, and the light of the full moon scatters from the sky and shines on the snow on the ground, brightening up the dimly lit streets.
Batman's black figure walked slowly in the white alleyway, pausing from time to time to peel through the snow to find something.
"Batman, did you find a clue?"
Batgirl walked from the alleyway, the sudden snow obscured most of the clues, and she followed the camera footage to track the black car, but soon the clues were completely cut off, and she had to return to see if Batman had found something.
Batman didn't answer her question, his attention was all focused on the rusty key on the ground, the snow covering most of the key, a clue that would be missed if he wasn't careful. Carefully stroking the snow around the key, revealing a pattern that was clearly artificially carved underneath.
"What is this?"
Batgirl looked closely at the barely recognizable triangular pattern on the ground, part of the key placed inside the triangle, leaking out of the key head on the outside of the triangle.
"Pisk's Logo"
Pisk is a new IT company, and their logo is like an abstract painting of a key being unlocked in a lock, and the pattern clearly indicates that their company's culture is to open the prison of the human mind.
“.. Are you sure? Isn't this the product of any child's prank? ”
Batgirl, though she had never seen Batman's speculation wrong, was only possible with a rusty key that had fallen to the ground and a triangular frame with unclear edges.....
"This key is Jason's"
Batman had seen the rusty key, and although Jason didn't mention it, he guessed it was the key to Jason's residence, his father's.
“..... Okay, but I think we need more visual clues."
Judging by this, Batgirl still feels too reluctant.
Batman didn't answer her question, and turned around and walked towards the end of the alley, where an iron staircase was the only access to the ground through a wooden door on the second floor.
Batman climbed up and stood in front of the somewhat dilapidated wooden door and gave it a gentle push, the old doorway squeaking and rubbing against its weight.
The room was empty, the wind and snowflakes poured in from the unclosed windows, leaving a mark of ice on the floor under the windowsill, and the air smelled of alcohol, and the room was messy but clean.
Batgirl followed and walked in, and asked strangely after seeing the current state of the room:
"Isn't that man in jail?"
Jason's father, who is the owner of the house, Batman went to investigate, and the result of the investigation was that Jason was imprisoned for robbery when he disappeared, and he was sentenced to 1 year.
Jason didn't seem to know about it, and given Jason's past experiences, Batman didn't think Jason would care much about the man's situation and didn't say anything.
But these are not the main reasons for Batgirl's doubts, she wonders why this room that has not been occupied in half a year is so clean.
There was an open half-bottle of wine on the table, a pile of half-eaten snacks and fast food piled up around it, and clothes and shoes scattered randomly on the floor...... It looks like someone is deliberately trying to keep the room occupied, or........... It is true that someone lived here during the imprisonment of the owner of this house for some purpose.
Batman pulled out a portable spray and sprayed it around the bottle and tabletop, waiting for a few minutes for the remaining fingerprints to appear in the smooth and flat spot he had hoped.
With the fingerprint samples collected, Batman and Batgirl return to the cave, transfer the samples to the computer, and wait for the results of the identity analysis.
Batman's computer stores almost all the criminal's information, including fingerprints, of course.
“... Sorry, I should have looked at him"
While waiting for the computer's feedback, Barbara said with some self-reproach.
When collecting clues recently, both Batman and Batgirl realized that the other party had been looking for Jason. Although I don't know how much money they paid that scum in the first place, it is obviously not a lot, at least to the extent that it is worth using manpower to arrest people.
“.... It's not your fault."
Bruce didn't expect Jason to go back to that room, and if he knew, he should have told Jason that his father was in jail first.
"I've sent a message to Dick, hoping he'll find Jason"
When she learns that Jason is missing, Barbara sends news to Dick. If Jason hadn't removed all the trackers, it would have been much easier to find.
But when that kid knew that Bruce was Batman, it was easy to think that he was so easy to find because he was pressed the tracker, and then? And then it was all dismantled..........
It's useless to say anything now, just hope Jason doesn't have an accident before they find him.
"Master Bruce, Mr. Himmler's message to you"
Alfred stepped out of the elevator with a tray in his hand, interrupting the dreary air.
Bruce took the note from the tray, glanced at it, and said:
"Jason shouldn't be okay for the time being"
"Why are you so sure?"
"Himmler has hinted more than once that I have very valuable gifts at the island party, and I suspect that he may have intended to sell the children as commodities"
At first, Bruce's guess is that Himmler created a club for people with the same perverted habits as him, and then Chris is responsible for searching for children to become merchandise for the club. But when Bruce began his search for all the information related to the child's disappearance, he did not have any evidence to support this argument.
The number of children missing every year is high, and it is not certain that Himmler will only target green-eyed children. A child like Jason, who is almost equivalent to a street child, can't even be guilty of contacting his guardian to "buy" it, and they can be kidnapped directly on the road. There is probably only one reason for buying instead of tying, and that is for fear of causing unnecessary trouble. If Bruce guessed correctly, Batman is in this trouble.
Purchases made in the name of adoption do not attract Batman's attention; But if a large number of children suddenly disappear, this will inevitably attract Batman's attention.
As president of the Wayne Group, Bruce knew better than anyone that a businessman would not make a loss-making business. Himmler would have bought children so lavishly, and it must have been profitable.
Simply starting a club and satisfying the perverted needs of some people to achieve his own goals is probably not enough for him to recover the cost, and it is not enough to consume so many children.
Judging from the message revealed in Jason's words, at least four to six children were sent to Himmler at a time, and this act of collecting children was carried out all the time.
With such a huge amount of demand, there must be a way to consume it, and selling these children is a good choice.
In that case, the six children whose bodies were found would be able to tell. The six children must have been sold, but the psychopathic murderer who bought them was a guy with a unique penchant for green eyes, and they found out that they had to temporarily dispose of the children's bodies due to some kind of pressure.
In subsequent observations, Himmler did not change because of the six dead children, and he did meet all the parliamentarians he could see as he had promised, but there was no other movement.
If it weren't for the fact that he really had nothing to do with it, then the biggest possibility was that he was very relieved that the perverted murderer who killed six children would not be caught so easily.
What was decrypted from the chip that Dick had stolen that day was a list of several Gotham politicians on the list, in addition to Councilor Lawrence.
If this list is indeed the list of people controlled by Himmler, then it is likely that the perverted murderer is among these politicians, and if so, Himmler really does not need to worry, and Gordon's report may not be submitted to the judiciary and will be suppressed by the pressure from above.
“.... Auction?"
"What?"
Bruce suddenly figured out that if the children were sold, the cost of tying up and buying them must be different, so it was very likely that a green-eyed child like Jason would be auctioned to raise the price, coupled with Jason's scarce hair color and that pretty little face, he was probably considered to be the finale of the auction to buy, if so, I'm afraid the money paid to that scum is not a small amount.
"I'm going to jail"
Bruce jumped on the Batmobile and left the cave with these words, and he was now in dire need of definitive evidence from the scumbag's mouth to prove his suspicions.
Himmler left a note with a hint that the new item he had just gotten his hands on would be very satisfying for Bruce, and he was looking forward to his performance at the island party that day.
Bruce sincerely hopes that Jason is the "new guy" so that he doesn't have too much trouble before he is sold............
