Chapter Thirty-Eight: Hallucinations

Batman walks down the dark alleyway, pondering the truth behind the layers of fog that this event hides.

There is no doubt that the other party is coming for him, and now the question is who? Who's behind it? In terms of financial resources, there aren't many people in Gotham who can be hired to raise the death knell, but it's definitely not a few.

The penguin man is one, the black mask is one, and the two-sided is also a .... Judging from the tone of the death knell, someone is determined to get rid of him this time. Why pick this time? Batman is well aware that his existence has hindered the interests of too many people, and there are many people who want to kill him, and his true identity has always been at the top of the list in Gotham's underground black market.

Catwoman was once involved in danger for this, and her rumors with him led many to target her.

With a full back-up plan in place to deal with the troubles that might follow, Clark even offered to announce Superman's identity once his identity was revealed, which was enough to divert the focus of the media, not enough to divert the attention of the media, but it would definitely make it easier for him.

But to everyone's surprise, the woman who seemed so unreliable did not say a word about his identity under all kinds of torture to extract confessions.

"I... Didn't say anything."

Catwoman's first words when she was rescued put everyone at ease.

But once there is a second time, this time Catwoman didn't say it, but it doesn't mean that next time they won't use some other means to make her say it, in order to protect Bruce, Zatana even used magic to seal Catwoman's related memories, but Catwoman still remembered it again.

Magic is sometimes not so effective in the face of overly stubborn will, just as Zatana tried to use magic to defuse his inner revenge on more than one occasion but ultimately failed.

So who is so eager to take out themselves right now?

[Batman can't have weaknesses]

Of course he knew that Batman couldn't have weaknesses, Catwoman said it, Superman said it, and the first to say it was the old man who was always by his side when he was most helpless.

“... So, someone already knows that the current Batman has weaknesses."

This is the only plausible explanation, Robin's death and his recent condition, and I'm afraid someone has already connected the two points.

He knows he hasn't been in great form lately, but he thinks he's slowly coming out, but it just looks like someone doesn't want to come out of the slump.

Batman pauses and begins to think about how to fight back. The death knell didn't chase after him, is there any other reason, or is it part of a trap?

There were footsteps coming from the other end of the alleyway, faintly with a cheerful conversation, like the voice of a child, from which it could be inferred that there were at least three people, a man in leather shoes, a woman in high heels, and a child. Looks like a family of three.

Why would anyone still walk from here at such a late hour?

The unusual signs make Batman clench the batarang in his hand, ready to attack at any moment.

The figures of the three people quickly appeared in his field of vision, just as he had guessed as a family of three, but when he saw the three people clearly, Batman seemed to be frozen by magic, completely unable to move.

Why... Why are these three figures here?

The doting on the man's face, the love on the woman's face, and the little boy who didn't know what was going to happen in the next second, was just overexcited by what he had just seen.

These three people had appeared countless times in his dreams, and they had always been a nightmare that haunted him, but why did they appear in this completely different alley at this moment.

The three of them walked towards Batman with a smile and a smile, and they didn't seem to have him in their eyes at all, and of course they wouldn't have noticed. The three of them got closer and closer, and finally three meters, two meters, and one meter finally came to Batman and tried to penetrate the air through his body.

Is it really a hallucination? Air? Still is....

“.......... Death knell! ”

The pain in his arm reminded him of what had just happened.

Several gunshots rang out behind him, followed by the cries of a child. He didn't need to look back at all to know what was going on.

There was a rush of footsteps coming from one end of the alley, and several people with black masks and classic markers quickly walked inside with flashlights, as if looking for something...

Judging the current situation, Batman felt that it was better to retreat from here first, and now he was a little confused about which ones were hallucinations and which were real people, although the guys in front of him looked like they should be real people.

After quickly crossing several rooftops, the numbness in the arm became more and more intense, and it seemed that the medicine on the knife was more than just a hallucinogen.

There was a familiar shrill laugh from the alleyway beneath his feet - the clown.

But now the Joker must still be crouching in Arkham, he's only visited him recently, and he's pretty sure he's honestly crouching there.

Another hallucination?

The rope quietly descended from the roof, and when he saw the scene in front of him, his steel-blue pupils unconsciously contracted violently.

Jason died in the explosion but all the signs on his body indicated what had happened to him in his life, and he tried to restrain himself from guessing what had happened to the child in the last period of his life, but the swollen face, the broken bones, and the bruises all over his body clearly told him what had happened to him.

The sound of the clown laughing wildly, the sound of the iron rod hitting the flesh, Bruce knew it was an illusion, it must be an illusion, but it still didn't change his urge to kill the clown now.

The batrang broke free and flew towards the back of the man's neck. The dart passed through the phantom and stuck in the wall, and the clown, the laughter, and the child were gone.

There was another sound of movement and footsteps behind him. Turning around, the man in his familiar uniform and his familiar mask, but with a strong overall physique, completely different from what he remembered, stood at the entrance of the alley.

Who is he? Is it just an illusion or an illusion created in a real person? Are drugs already working on vision?

Batman tried to guess the uninvited guest in front of him, and from him he felt a strong consciousness, the consciousness that wanted to kill him.

"Oh, what did you just see"

It seems that the potion has not yet had an effect on hearing, and the voice is - Bane!
