Chapter Twenty-Seven: Phantoms
Bruce kept walking slowly down the hallway, and the closer he got to his destination, the more people came out to stop him. He guessed correctly, the Mad Hatter was supposed to be hiding in the director's office.
Eventually, after taking down the two researchers who had pounced on them again, and skillfully using a slight current to make the chip controlling them useless, all the staff in this research institute had already been beaten by him.
He didn't stop and continued to walk towards his target, he was the only one walking slowly in the empty hallway, the light diffusing from above dragging a shadow behind him.
There was a rhythmic sound of footsteps in the hallway, exactly in line with Bruce's pace. If he didn't know the boots on his feet all the more, he would have thought it was an echo of his own footsteps.
Turning a corner, he stopped, and looked at the corridor leading to the director's office, which was no different from all the laboratories, with different laboratories on either side, and the blank walls were decorated with abstract paintings that ordinary people could not read. If it weren't for the fact that the time it took was a little too long, Bruce really didn't have anything worth noting.
Footsteps rang out again, this time from behind Bruce. Hidden under the cloak, he held the bat mark in his hand and waited quietly for someone to come.
The footsteps followed unhurriedly from behind, and the rhythm and frequency were exactly the same as what they had just heard.
A shadow appeared around the corner, and then the strange footsteps disappeared, indicating that someone was standing around the corner.
Theoretically, there would be nothing wrong with this inference, if his shadow did not intersect with this shadow.
"Welcome to my psychedelic room for you, Batman"
The mad hatter's strange voice came out of nowhere.
Bruce walked back around the corner, only to find that the long hallway was gone, and he seemed to have come to an almost identical corner, and continued to walk around the corner to the same corner. There is no doubt that this is the mad hatter's hypnosis, but when did it begin? Both Clark and himself have confirmed that the environment does not have any low-frequency sound waves.
"What is he doing?"
In the office, a man looked at the person standing around the corner on the screen, and asked the mad hatter sitting in his seat with some curiosity.
"Just caught up in the hallucinations I gave him"
"You hypnotized him? When? ”
"When? Maybe when he finds my chip."
The Mad Hatter answered the question mysteriously, not wanting to talk too much about the partner. It's like he doesn't want to tell him that the research institute has become his hypnotic tool. The pictures he hung on the walls for decoration, as well as certain light waves that were obscured by the lights, and biological waves that filled the entire research institute with the same frequency as human brain waves.
When he renovated the place, he gave the reason that it would strengthen the previous control effect.
He wasn't lying, but hypnosis was never a one-to-one mechanized standard accessory, and there was no such thing as a first-come, first-served accessory.
These things can indeed enhance his previous hypnotism, but have you been in this building for a long time.... Naturally, he will become the next person to be hypnotized imperceptibly.
It's just that he originally thought that Batman's strong will was not so easy to deal with, so he deliberately left a backup plan. You must know that hypnotism can only exert its best effect when people's will is not firm, and for this man who no matter what situation he faces, you can't see a trace from the lower half of his face, he himself is not very sure whether this ordinary hypnotism is successful.
Now the man standing motionless on the screen is caught in his own environment by his hypnosis, or is it another trick waiting for him to take the bait.
"What about that person?"
"Who?"
The mad hatter's train of thought was interrupted by his not very satisfied partner, and his tone was naturally a little unpleasant.
"The Met's Celebrity"
He didn't expect to bring Superman in.
"He? It doesn't matter, he'll get hit just as well."
"He's anaphysiologically similar to that of an earthling?"
Hypnosis can have a different effect between different people, not to mention the fact that cross-species guys just look like people.
"It's similar, I used to hypnotize him"
That was the capital that the Mad Hatter could brag about, but it didn't seem like a challenge to him. Too powerful will result in a person becoming innocent, and hypnotizing Superman is much simpler than hypnotizing Batman.
"By the way, you go and bring him over, remember to tie it up, the illusion can't trap him for too long"
The Mad Hatter felt that it was almost the same, he didn't think that Batman would be trapped in hallucinations all the time, they had fought many times, and each time he found a way to crack his hypnosis, it was better to limit his movements quickly before he was unable to resist.
"Me? What about you? ”
"I'm going to pick up another guest"
The Mad Hatter said as he walked towards a bare wall.
Bruce, who had been standing around the corner, naturally didn't know any speculation about the Mad Hatter, but he knew he had been tricked.
When was this? Hypnotism from the very beginning of his entry? Or is it ...... There is a problem in this corridor.
In order to reduce the likelihood of being hypnotized, Bruce has carefully studied hypnosis. The more advanced sound and color is the brainwashing that directly uses the device to read and write brain waves. If so, then the eerie abstract paintings in the hallways are probably the key point.
Bruce stopped, and although he felt like he was walking, he probably didn't move at all.
There was another rush of running in the hallway, which was completely different from his frequency. Bruce stood quietly in place, waiting for what might happen.
No hypnotism or brainwashing is perfect, there must be a breaking point, he's been fighting the Mad Hatter for a long time, and what he needs now is a lot of patience and keen observation.
Without giving him much time to wait, the red shadow quickly appeared in sight, the familiar face, the familiar mask and the familiar unruly expression, Bruce subconsciously almost called out the boy's name.
As if they hadn't seen him, the red figure quickly disappeared through his side into the endless darkness behind him.
Bruce hurriedly turned and chased after him, but his legs seemed to be entangled in the vines of poison ivy, and he couldn't step away.
A beam of light shot from where the boy had disappeared, disintegrating the space.
When the vision returned to function again, the person he had been looking for was another guy he had guessed might be his accomplice, and the two of them were standing in front of him, smiling rather than smiling, making the mad hatter's ugly face even more distorted. In addition, the guy he sent to look for the stolen goods also stood quietly behind the mad hatter....
"Looks like you're awake, you're sturdy?"
The Mad Hatter almost put his face on Bruce's mask and asked after making sure he saw his eyes return to normal.
"Of course"
"Hmm... We're meeting again, old man."
The Mad Hatter didn't care about his partner's unkind answer, and focused his attention on the "fruits of victory" in front of him.
"You're all around?"
Bruce asked in a Batman-specific voice.
"Hmm.... I've always wondered if your voice was mechanically synthesized, or if you could change your voice like this."
The Mad Hatter is not so much interested in where Batman's voice comes from, but in the mechanical generator that could have been buried in Batman's throat. Of course, the premise is that Batman's voice is really mechanical.
"What the hell do you want to do?"
Completely ignoring the Mad Hatter's question, Batman continued to ask what he needed.
"What do you want to do?? Don't you think that all that technology, antiques, and jewelry are a waste in the hands of people who have no ideals at all? I'm just helping them do their part."
"Selling them is helping them work?"
Batman said with a mocking tone in his words, he had heard sirens from far and near, and it seemed that Gordon had finally found this place.
Batman's hearing is much sharper than that of ordinary people, but the Mad Hatter, a criminal who has been dealing with the police for many years, is not very sensitive to the sound of sirens.
“... Damn cop, I'm going to move things with Superman, you deal with him"
The Mad Hatter gives his accomplice an order, then turns and walks towards Superman.
"Wait a minute, you're going to let me deal with Batman, and then you're going to go with Superman with something?"
Davis isn't some stupid guy, there's Superman, the Mad Hatter and all that whole bunch of stuff can be carried away at once, leaving him alone to deal with Batman and the incoming cops? He's not stupid enough to be that stupid.
"Don't tell me you can't deal with a sturdy man who is tied"
"I don't think he can solve a sturdy Batman who is tied up"
Before the Mad Hatter's words could fall, a voice came over his head, and a powerful arm lifted him up before the Mad Hatter could react.
"You... You're not hypnotized??!! ”
The mad hat merchant asked, looking at the clear blue eyes in surprise.
Davis sensed something bad and turned to run, but was kicked down by Batman, and the rope that had been tied to Batman was removed and used to tie Davis and the Mad Hatter together.
The two men looked from the window at the police car that had rushed into the yard of the institute, and Clark asked:
"I'll send you back?"
"My car is nearby"
“.. Okay"
