220 Counterattack, San Jose (1)
The Battle of Kursk was a close battle in the Second Continental War. There is something special about this war, as the casualties on the first day of the war account for more than half of the entire battle.
On the first day of the battle, the Desik launched a total of two charges, the first was a cavalry charge composed of Steppenwolf cavalry and rangers to challenge the famous San Jose phalanx on the mainland, and then sent the absolute and main force of the Desik army, "Storm Bear Regiment", "Eagle Falcon Regiment", "Frost Regiment" three heavy infantry regiments, a total of more than 10,000 people, once again to attack the San Jose Guards defense line.
After a day of fierce fighting, by the afternoon the Desik offensive was beginning to get a little tired, and the most advanced left flank offensive, which had broken through almost half of the San Jose line, was no longer able to move any further. The right flank of the Desiks themselves was taken by surprise by the sudden arrival of the Guards cavalry, and in a moment the 1st Ranger Division was almost crippled.
As evening fell, the lines of defense on both sides remained the same as they had been before the battle began, and neither Desik nor San Jose had gained any benefit other than to leave behind many corpses.
That night, in Desik's headquarters, General Hans looked at the generals on the side with a sinking face, and did not say a word. There were some missing people here: Kimmich, the unfavorable Ranger battalion general, who had been beheaded by General Hans, and his body had been handed over to the servants to bring back to Desik, another battalion general, Kluge, who had been struck in the right arm by a catapult during the battle, was still being treated by the medical officer, and Manstein, the leader of the wolf riders, was so discouraged from fighting all day that he didn't want to say anything. The remaining infantry commanders were also wounded to varying degrees.
The bravery of the Desiks was on full display, and these silver-headed generals, as well as the commanders of the infantry regiments, were all leading the way on the battlefield without reservation. Unfortunately, even so, General Hans's strategic goal was still not achieved, and after a long time, he sighed deeply:
"The course of the war in the past two years has been smooth, and His Majesty Edward's strategy is ahead of the countries, which makes us all guilty of arrogance, and we need to reflect on it. Everyone nodded, and General Hans was right at this time, and everyone did not dare to refute it. "It seems that our idea of quickly eliminating the main army of San Jose in Kursk is a bit unrealistic, let's talk about what we should do later!"
All the generals present did not speak, you look at me, I look at you, and finally everyone's eyes fell on General Manstein, the commander of the wolf cavalry. Here he is the general of the Wasteland Samurai, and he is the highest in his position.
Manstein had no choice but to bite the bullet and say: "We have lost a lot of money today, and the losses of the San Jose people are also very large, I want to take a day off and attack again." I saw it today, the strength of their guards is quite impressive, but the two wings should be their former border legions, and their right flank was almost taken by us today!"
General Hans sighed again, "That's why I'm so angry today! This Kimmich is so incomprehensible, if the left wing doesn't collapse so quickly, maybe we will eat the right wing of San Jose completely! In that case, the situation will be completely different......"
The military deliberations of the Deciks continued all night, and nothing could have come up with a better proposal. Tens of thousands of Desik were killed and wounded in today's battle, and the soldiers who took on the first wave of charges were the most elite and brave Desik soldiers, and their casualties were considerable losses. Similarly, San Jose lost a lot of Guards, and when the two planets jumped out of the sea from the east the next morning, the two sides chose a truce.
The truce was only temporary, and for the next two months the San Jose and Desch confronted each other on the Kursk Plain, with occasional Decirs sending out rangers or infantry regiments to carry out several attacks, and the San Jose Guards organized several counterattacks during the night, with both armies suffering casualties. But a battle of the same intensity as the first day has never happened again, after all, if there are a few more field battles like the first day, it is estimated that the main armies of the two countries will soon be exhausted.
A lot of interesting things happened during this time. The Kursk Plain is a 100-mile super plain that actually encompasses the Kursk Province, all of Yorkshire, and parts of the surrounding counties. On this great plain, standing on the observation post, when the weather is fine, you can see the enemy's camp more than ten miles away at a glance, and when the rangers and scouts on both sides are infested, they basically can't hide from each other's eyes.
Often Desic's rangers had just left the camp, and the observation posts in San Jose had already seen the other side's movements, so scouts from the Guards or Border Guards were dispatched to intercept them. Soldiers on both sides watched their scouts or rangers fight the enemy on the great plains.
This happened every day, and in the San Jose camp, the huge catapults and crossbows were almost useless, and the dark mages that worried the San Jose generals the most were also gone, with no sign of appearing at all.
From the first day of the battle, the court mages in the San Jose army monitored the disturbance of magical elements near the battlefield all the time, and surprisingly, those dark mages did not seem to appear on the battlefield at all. But Mosik didn't dare to let go of his mind at all, since the outbreak of the war between the Shang Alliance and Desik, although the dark mages were not dispatched frequently, their magic was either not used, and once used, it would have a huge impact.
Two months passed quietly, and there was no major military movement after the Deshik set up camp by the Morro River, and not even the Desik army in Hongye Town and Patong was dispatched, except for the daily skirmishes, it seemed that the two countries were still living in peace.
This situation made the Imperial Council of San Jose quite annoyed, and the cabinet ministers were very dissatisfied with the situation at the front, and Count Mosicke returned to Kyoto City several times, but could not come up with a plan that satisfied the emperor and the cabinet. The professors of the Royal Military Academy in San Jose have almost stopped teaching and spend their days in their departments discussing war plans.
The only thing that made a move was the Desik navy off the coast of Mone-Gun, which had finally evacuated a month ago, with a small number of warships guarding the landing sites in the Patong area, and the remaining large number of warships and transport ships in the Patong area had once again disappeared into the long sea. The San Jose Navy, which was finally liberated, under the leadership of General Wellington, who had returned to M. Y. Harbor, began to take the initiative to search for the Desik battleship on the San Jose coastline.
But those Desik warships don't know where they disappeared. The ships of the San Jose detachment were allowed to cruise around, and for a month, not even a small battle took place between them. In General Wellington's report to the Council of Kings, he suspected that the Desic must have mastered the charts of the long and deep seas in order to avoid the Royal Navy ships cruising near the coastline.
He even suggested that the Royal Navy in San Jose should also start exploring the open sea route, otherwise it would be too passive. However, this suggestion was rejected by the Imperial Council, citing the fact that the Royal Navy had lost more than 8,000 soldiers in the Chizhi Stone Forest, who were still being taken prisoner in the Patong area.
General Wellington did not dare to say any more, he was the commander of the defeat, and it was quite right that the Imperial Council did not hold him accountable and reinstate him.
In mid-August, the San Jose Pre-Council received a counter-attack plan jointly provided by professors from the Royal Military Academy of San Jose, the result of several days of research. The main purpose of this plan was to have the Imperial Council mobilize the Western Frontier Army and all the garrisons near Kyoto Castle and use all of them to defeat the Desik invasion army on the Morro River.
In this plan, the professors analyzed the strength of Desik's troops. In the two consecutive years of high-intensity warfare, the Desik people's military resources are also close to exhaustion, even if they can be recruited on a large scale again, these temporarily recruited soldiers, five people may not be as good as the previous elite, not to mention, when Edward VI ascended the throne, he eradicated a large number of political opponents' cronies, and most of them were consumed on the battlefield of the Shang Alliance.
San José was richer and more populous than Desik, and there was no need to hesitate to besiege these invading Desik with the greatest number of troops, dealing them a heavy blow and depleting their army and soldiers. Those rangers and Steppenwolf riders, killing one is one less, even if it is exchanged for five ordinary San Jose soldiers, it is worth it.
Otherwise, the De Sick people will be divided into three divisions and occupy the three counties and provinces of San Jose, and if this drags on, the production of the entire San Jose country will be affected, and it may not take more than a year for San Jose to have a material advantage over the De Sik to be exhausted.
When the proposal was submitted to the Imperial Council, it was approved by Count Mosik but rejected unanimously by the rest of the cabinet ministers. They were very dissatisfied, the professors of the Royal Military Academy proposed such a "tactic of attrition", such a way of using human lives and resources to fight with Desik, the essence of which was to solve the Desik as quickly as possible, regardless of losses.
The Imperial Council held many meetings for this purpose, and the hesitant Emperor of Benin could not come up with any good ideas, so that under such circumstances, the first four years of August gradually passed.
In the end, the Imperial Council did not agree to this plan, but authorized Count Mosicke to organize a limited counterattack to see if it could change the situation on the battlefield. Count Mosik, who had no choice, had to return to the Kursk front line non-stop, and summoned the generals to discuss how to deal with it.
In the end, it was Viscount Slim who volunteered to lead some of his soldiers to attack and make some articles between the two Desik armies in Red Leaf Town and Kursk.
"What do you want to do?" asked Count Mosick.
"I haven't thought about it yet, in fact, I understand the meaning of the Imperial Council, they just want us to make some changes, so let's change them for them! Lord Mosik, I apply to take the Guards Cavalry Regiment into battle!"
Count Mosik nodded in agreement without thinking about it, and everyone present understood what Viscount Slim meant,
