The Sentinel Mechs are moved by a pair of articulated legs, which allows them to be maneuverable in complex environments while bursting at high speeds in wide areas. They were equipped with gyro-stabilizers to enhance balance, and generators were equipped with silencing technology to accommodate covert movements. The original Sentinel Mechs had open roofs, although improvements to enhance vehicle armor are now common. Armored Sentinels are equipped with recoilcompensators instead of balancers, allowing them to use heavier weapons and use orniths to aid in hunting missions. The standard Sentinel is always equipped with rapid-fire weapons, initially as an assault gun, and later models show different armaments, most commonly multi-barrel lasers, others including heavy Spitfire, automatic cannons, missile launchers, laser cannons, or plasma cannons. In addition to strengthening armor and replacing weapons, the Sentinel Mech has also undergone modifications in a number of other ways, most commonly with camouflage nets, smoke launchers, and hunting missiles. Other modifications depend on where the sentry is on a mission, such as the addition of servo-drivenclaws to increase grip during Operation Ice Planet.

Battlefield characters

The Bipedal Action System gives the Sentinel Mech the special ability to enter areas that other wheeled or tracked armored vehicles would not dare to expect. This allows them to step into the depths of the rainforest or the ruins of cities to defeat enemy resistance, though the light armor and leaky crew bay make them vulnerable to even light firepower. Armored Sentinels with better weapons and heavier armor are more often used as mobile hunting units, hunting enemy tanks wherever they can find them.

Because Sentinel Mechs usually operate in front of the main force of the Imperial Army, often one or three Sentinel groups operate independently or as part of a larger reconnaissance unit, so pilots often use their own initiative to "understand" their orders. Many pilots have a bad track record of disobeying orders, but they are often ignored for their invaluable support firepower when reciting. When not used in reconnaissance, they are usually deployed on both flanks as a mobile anti-armor squad to oppress enemy formations.

Sentinel mechs are used in multiple versions throughout the Empire, depending on where they are produced and what role they play on the battlefield.

Mars type

The Martian model is the base model of the Sentinel Mech, which is derived from the Casting World Mars and is widely used in the Empire. This is an open-top vehicle equipped with a multi-barreled laser, which can effectively combat infantry and light vehicles.

Armageddon type

Originally derived from Armageddon's use as a tank hunter, the Armageddon Sentinel is equipped with an armored crew bay and comes standard with a laser cannon. The enclosed crew compartment was also necessary to protect the members from the corrosive dust of Armageddon.

Kadian type

The Kadian Sentinel Mechs are built on the Kadian and are usually equipped with a rapid-fire automatic cannon, making them ideal for clearing out armored infantry and light medium vehicles. Like the Armageddon type, they are equipped with additional armor to protect the crew.

Katachan type

The Katachan-type Sentinel Mecha originally originated from Katachan, but was also used by various regiments from the World of the Dead. Adapted to the claustrophobic environment common to rainforest combat, it is equipped with a heavy spitfire and a large chainsaw weapon, which is useful when cutting through bushes and even enemies.

Alicia type

The Alicia Sentinel, or Airborne Sentinel, is a variant of the Airborne Regiment that is only used in Imperial Guard regiments such as the Alicia Airborne Regiment. More compact than the other versions and equipped with a gravity parachute, the Airborne Sentinel can be deployed in high orbit or carried by the Valkyrie for airborne raids to quickly enter the conflict zone. Unlike other models, the Airborne Sentinel is not generally used as a scout, but rather as a mobile heavy fire support to support airborne regiments or other units lacking heavy vehicles or artillery on the ground. The most common weapons are heavy explosive shells or multi-tube heat melts.

Taran type

Used by Taran-type raiders and similar regiments, the Taran Sentinel is an ideal model for fighting in wide desert terrain. There are larger feet so that they can spread the weight over a larger area, and there are sand and dust filters to prevent the engine from being clogged with fine sand. The basic weapon, the multi-barrel laser, is suitable for attacking infantry and light vehicles.
