Chapter 12: A Sudden Turnaround

A man in a shirt stepped out of a taxi. Pen ~ fun ~ Pavilion www.biquge.info When he stepped on the stairs outside the hotel door, he suddenly hesitated, and then stopped. He peered into the hotel until he saw a group of young men with obvious Asian appearances gathered in the lobby, and he walked in with confidence.

He is very handsome and has the charm of a middle-aged man. A naturally curled, fluffy and layered hairstyle, and a clean and neat beard despite being dense. The only pity is that his hair is faintly white, which doesn't seem to match his face, which doesn't look old.

As he walked inside, he looked up at the ceiling above the hotel, and a few deep furrows were suddenly squeezed out of his forehead. The ceiling was covered with paintings of the Age of Discovery, and he looked at it with interest, smiling, and looking very pleased with the hotel's dΓ©cor.

Previously, he was a footballer and was well known in the local area. However, Chinese fans should rarely hear his name. Maybe when you get a cursory look at his life, you will be touched.

His name is Philippe Govia and he is the new head coach of Boavista, a local football club in Porto. In fact, he has been head coach for less than a month and has just retired from playing as a player this season, making him a rookie coach through and through. However, it is difficult to see this in his sharp, deep and confident eyes.

Perhaps a glimpse of the reason can be seen from his resume as a player. In his 22 years of football, he has joined 14 different clubs. And the most commendable thing is that this bumpy experience did not crush him, but brought him strong adaptability and plug-and-play teamwork ability.

Over the course of his career, he made 421 appearances and scored 49 goals – an achievement that he can be proud of, even though he has never really established himself in a team. And, as a midfielder, his goalscoring efficiency is not too low.

Born on 12 May 1973 in Massarelus, a suburb of Porto, Philippe Govia began his football career in the local youth league. In the 1991-1992 season, Filip Govia made his official debut for Duvarzin at the age of 18. In the 1992-1993 season, he signed a new contract with Guarda and after only a short two years he joined the Portuguese club Alante in the Portuguese division. In 1995, he moved to Madeira in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of northwestern Africa, where he became the undisputed core of the team. It was only after two years that he returned to the interior of Portugal to join Pacos FC in the city of Ferreira. During this year, Philippe Govia showed his competitive qualities, and the following year he was brought to the highest stage of the time by Sporting Club Faro, the Portuguese league. On September 12, 1998, on his top-flight debut, he led the team to defeat traditional giants Porto with a score of 2-0.

It was his first highlight as a player, and his name began to be known in the media, and fans began to pay attention to him as Portugal's rising star.

The following season, Philippe Govia joined BelΓ©m club in Lisbon. Before the local media could report the surprise news, he was invited by his friend Rui Pataka to send him on loan to Montpellier in France – just to play alongside his friend. Since he has been kicked around from different clubs like a hydrangea, he would rather fight for his personal aspirations than be tied down by the team. Who knows where he's going to be kicked again?

At the end of his contract that year, he joined Rui Pataca with Boavista, a Portuguese champion at the time, and won the title in one fell swoop. It was the first top-flight title of Philippe Govia's career. Sadly, from the beginning of the year, his form began to decline gradually. In 2002, he was loaned to Pacos Ferreira in the middle of the season, before moving to Nationals in Funchal, Madeira. Playing for three different clubs in the same season, which is not common in the professional league. In 2005, he returned to the interior of Portugal for the second time and joined Gil Vicente. Unfortunately, he was unable to help the team survive relegation, and a year later they were relegated to the Portuguese second division. After struggling for a season in the Portuguese second division, he left again to join Vizela club in the north of Portugal. In 2007, he signed a one-year contract with Sporting Eves, who had just been relegated from the Portuguese Super League, and was automatically extended for another year if the team qualified for promotion at the end of the season. The 34-year-old contributed what was left of his strength to the team, eventually living up to expectations and leading the team back to the Portuguese Super League. Two years later, he signed his last contract with amateur club Villa Athletic and spent the last season of his days as a player.

In 2010, Filip Govia tried to apply to the Boavista board of directors to become the team's head coach. After many rounds of assessment, he finally got his wish and signed a five-year contract with the team. So, he officially announced that he would hang up his boots at the age of 37.

Philippe Govia suffered from transfers as a player, and as head coach, he didn't want to taste it again, so when it came to negotiations, he only asked the board to fulfill his five-year contract and give him enough time to prove himself. Perhaps due to personal experience, he took special care of his players, and in less than half a month, the whole team got along with him, and the board of directors was very satisfied with it.

Football has accompanied him for more than 20 years. The most unwilling thing about him is that no matter which team he goes to, he is never really taken seriously. Although he has been training hard and doing his best in the game, at the end of the season, he has to say goodbye to his old teammates and constantly look for a new club. He hated the feeling of wandering, so when he became a manager, he felt it was his duty to take care of every player and make them feel needed and boost their confidence.

On this day, Philippe Govia came here for a self-evident purpose. As he passed in front of the boys, the joy in his heart was almost written on his face. Govia grinned as she looked at the energetic group of children, revealing deep dimples. The young man who was closest suddenly saw a middle-aged uncle with a beard on his face, who was inexplicably smiling at him at the moment, and couldn't help but shudder, turned his head inward, and pretended not to see him.

"Hey! Philip! You're finally here! Little Pan greeted him from not far away, spoke native Portuguese, and beckoned to Govia.

"Hey, isn't this Pan?" Govia stepped forward and hugged Xiao Pan tightly.

"You said you were going to call me Xian'en, not Pan."

"Oh-" said Govia, as he suddenly realized, "I'm sorry my friend, I've forgotten your manners again. ”

Xiao Pan smiled: "Philip, this is not any etiquette. Chinese surnames come first, first names come last, you just have to remember that. ”

The two exchanged pleasantries for a while, and Xiao Pan suddenly became serious and said, "Philip, there is something that I may need your favor for." ”

"No problem, let's hear it."

"See that kid?" Xiao Pan pointed to the crowd, "It's easy to recognize...... Yes, the red-haired one. ”

"Hey, I see that. That guy is really strong, he has to be 6 feet 1, right? ”

Xiao Pan didn't answer his question, but just got straight to the point: "I heard that you have two free places, can you ask him directly later?" ”

Govia pondered for a moment and said, "As long as there is potential, I will want any player." Does he have anything to do with you, though? ”

"He used to play under me and was very talented, but our team leader wanted to throw him in Group C, so he ......"

"Group C is actually okay. You know, I was still in the regional leagues at first......"

"No, no, no." Xiao Pan hurriedly interrupted: "I mean, his strength may be far beyond your imagination, don't you want to take it back to see?" Seeing that the other party was a little hesitant, Xiao Pan patted his chest again and said: "I dare to say that among this group of players, there is no one stronger than him!" ”

"Well, I promise you." Govia smiled, "I'll have to pick a few anyway." ”

"Thank you so much!" Xiao Pan held his hand tightly and said, "Don't take it as an example, if you need help in the future, just look for me!" ”

"Really? Then I'm going to ask you a favor right now. Govia put his arm on his shoulder and said, "Our youth coach wants me to bring a midfielder back, can you recommend that?" ”

"Uh......" Xiao Pan said with a sad face: "To be honest, I don't know this class of children. ”

After speaking, Xiao Pan turned his head to look at Chen Jianhao, and was about to call him over to say hello to the future head coach, when he suddenly caught a glimpse of Chen Jinwu standing beside him, so he clapped his hands and said, "That's right!" How did I forget about him? ”

A moment later, Chen Jianhao and Chen Jinwu both stood in front of Govia and nodded to each other in friendship.

"This is Boavista's head coach, Mr. Filipe Govia. You'll both come with him later. ”

Chen Jianhao's face sank and asked, "Boa Vista?" Isn't this Portuguese second? Although he has never followed Portugal and usually only watches the Premier League and Champions League, he had done a rough check on the divisions of these teams before he came.

"Come on, I've got you covered, what else do you want?" Xiao Pan glanced at him angrily and said, "Why don't you go to Portugal and stay?" ”

Govia didn't know anything about Mandarin, and when he saw that they seemed to be arguing, he asked, "Pan, what are you talking about?" ”

"Call me Hyun!" Xiao Pan emphasized it first, and then said casually: "He's scolding our team leader, don't care." ”

Govia laughed and said, "I like this kind of character, it goes well with his hair color!" Maybe he's also a fan of DarkOath! ”

Chen Jianhao had just come into contact with Portuguese, and he only knew some commonly used life terms and football terms, so he didn't know what they were talking about, so he asked Chen Jinwu for help. I saw Chen Jinwu say seriously: "He said that your red hair is very dirty, go back and cut it quickly." ”
