Chapter 5: Bring her back to Hogwarts
The cool morning breeze characteristic of the Scottish Highlands swept over Loch Lomond, bringing a touch of humidity and gently blowing through the town of Rass.
Professor McGonagall, who left the orphanage in a rage, gradually regained her composure in the gentle breeze.
After a moment of quiet reflection on the conversation in the hut, Professor McGonagall soon noticed a number of anomalies in it, the most obvious being Elena's knowledge of the wizarding world, which did not look like a child who had grown up in a Muggle world.
As for Elena's theory of the division between the rich and the poor between the two worlds, Professor McGonagall said that she didn't understand it very well, and that she was not interested in studying the results of Muggle mathematics and finance.
However, Professor McGonagall was caught off guard by the ease with which most adults were exuded by Elena's speech and demeanor, as well as her domineering arrogance.
But what prompted McGonagall to leave Russ without hesitation and return to Hogwarts to seek Dumbledore's advice.
It's the spell that theoretically can't even be said in the mouth of a child of Elena's age - the Piercing Heart and Bone Splitting, a dark magic spell known as one of the three unforgivable spells.
............
"That said, Miss Caslana knows more about the wizarding world than we thought. To be precise, she had seen more than most of the wizarding world. This was really a surprise to me. β
In the Headmaster's office at Hogwarts, Dumbledore's slender ten fingers were crossed on the table, and after listening carefully to Professor McGonagall's experience, he sighed a little.
Professor McGonagall nodded sympathetically, and she felt that Elena's bold claims were a bit too absolute, but at least some of them were not entirely unreasonable.
"I'm sorry, Professor Dumbledore. It stands to reason that I should have continued to talk to her more, but for some reason, I always felt that it was difficult to control my emotions in front of that girl. What's more, she actually eats owls!"
As soon as she said this, McGonagall faintly felt a little angry again, and waved her right arm in the air excitedly, "Dumbledore, can you imagine?
"Calm down, Minerva, it's probably not your fault. β
Dumbledore blinked nimbly, lifted his half-moon glasses, and said with a smile, "Didn't I remind you before, she's a half-breed girl." Although she is still young, with her talent, simple emotional cues and guidance, it can still be done. β
After a pause, Dumbledore continued, the smile on his face fading and becoming serious.
"This child's purpose was terrifyingly clear, and from the very beginning, she had made it clear that she would never enter Hogwarts. But that doesn't mean she doesn't understand her potential. β
Professor McGonagall frowned and asked confusedly, "But what is her purpose in doing this?"
This was what she had been most incomprehensible about afterwards, because according to Elena's talent, it would have been easier for her to achieve her ideals if she had learned magic.
"Because of the International Secrecy Act, the Muggle Protection Act, and the existence of the Wizengamot Wizarding Court. As long as she doesn't set foot in the wizarding world, she can always live as a Muggle, an unfettered transcendent being with magical abilities. β
"But she's just a child......"
Professor McGonagall said subconsciously.
"To be exact, a child who can accurately say the spells of Oblivion and Prucidal Spell in a small talk tone. β
Dumbledore shook his head, his expression extremely solemn, "I have no doubt that even most fifth-year students can't do that. β
"As a half-breed girl, she was born with more access to the wizarding world than most wizards. Obviously, someone from the wizarding world had already reached out to her before us. As for the uneasiness you mentioned, I thought, maybe you need to look at this ......"
As he spoke, Dumbledore stood up and took out a shallow stone basin from the black cabinet behind him, the edge of which was carved with runes and symbols, and the basin held a strange silvery substance.
It was difficult to determine whether it was a liquid or a gas, it had a bright silvery white, and it was still moving, and its surface rippled like the wind blowing through the water, and yet, like a cloud, it separated and swirled at one time. It's like a liquid of lightβlike a solid of wind.
"Meditation basin, you don't want to say that this child has ever appeared in your memory. Professor McGonagall raised an eyebrow.
As Dumbledore's best friend, she naturally knew that this was an incredible magical item that Dumbledore used to preserve the thoughts and memories in his head.
"No, it's a memory from Mr. Newt Scamander. Many years ago, there was a person who said something similar, but in a slightly different position. β
Dumbledore reached for Professor McGonagall and pulled her into memory.
............
Dumbledore's office suddenly toppled over, and Professor McGonagall felt her body rush forward and sink headfirst into the basin, but her hair didn't hit the bottom of the basin. She fell in a cold, pitch-black mass, as if sucked into a black vortex.
Looking left and right, McGonagall found herself on top of a circular grandstand with an enclosed stone dome above it, surrounded by wizards who looked like they had been dressed fifty or sixty years ago.
On the platform in the center below, a white-haired man in a black coat was slowly looking up at her and Dumbledore, or more precisely at the wizards around them, with their trademark white hair and handsome countenances that almost every wizard would not mistakeβGrindelwald, one of the most dangerous dark wizards of all time.
Professor McGonagall felt as if her heart was being clenched by something, a look of arrogance that was very similar, and she looked at Dumbledore with a shocked expression, and couldn't help but blurt out.
"Grindelwald?!, you don't mean to say ......"
Dumbledore shook his head, fingers raised in front of his lips, and motioned for Professor McGonagall not to speak yet.
Grindelwald's slow, clear voice could be heard below.
"My brothers, my sisters, my friends. β
The man's voice was a little low, as if there was a magic in it that made people can't help but be convinced and continue to listen.
"A lot of people think that I hate Muggles, No-Maj, Squibs, and all those people who don't have the ability to cast spells. But in fact, I've never hated those people, and we need to admit that wizards aren't the majority. β
β...... Magic, which only blooms among a few. So we have to lurk in the dark. β
Grindelwald raised his eyebrows, revealing a look of disdain, and paced lightly to continue, "However, the laws of the past no longer apply. β
With Grindelwald's words, there was a commotion among the wizards, and the wizards who had been summoned exchanged words with each other, many of whom had already guessed what Grindelwald wanted to say today.
"My dream is that it is time for those of us who live for truth and love to fight for our rightful place in this world. β
Not paying any attention to the commotion in the crowd, Grindelwald looked around and raised his voice.
"When the time comes, we wizards will be free again. β
"We are running out of time, and here is a vital prophecy for the future that needs to be shown to you......"
As he spoke, Grindelwald held up a mysterious skull that seemed to have some kind of writing smeared in red.
A hazy cloud of smoke spread from Grindelwald's mouth towards the sky, and in the gradual gaze of the smoke, a noisy scene of ruins was gradually emerging.
Before Professor McGonagall could see the scene in the smoke, Dumbledore's voice suddenly sounded in her ears.
"Alright, I guess that's pretty much it, we should go back. β
Dumbledore whispered to Professor McGonagall, reaching out to support her elbow.
The next moment, Professor McGonagall felt herself slowly rise into the air, and the stands in the square began to dissipate, leaving nothing but darkness in the blink of an eye. Then she felt as if she was flipping in slow motion, and her feet suddenly fell to the ground, and the two of them returned to the warm headmaster's office at Hogwarts.
"What is this?"
"This is the most famous public lecture I could find before Grindelwald provoked the entire wizarding world war. β
Before Professor McGonagall could finish speaking, Dumbledore nodded and replied first.
He continued as he stretched out his wand and stirred it in the meditation basin, reagitating Grindelwald's face, which was floating above the liquid surface, into a chaotic silver substance.
"Muggles are not inferior, nor are they insignificant. Grindelwald saw the wizarding world in decline, but his arrogance as a wizard made him miss out on more. So he tried to change in a drastic way, and a series of wrong things that resulted led to his final defeat. β
"You're being too modest. Professor McGonagall shook her head, "The entire wizarding world knows that in the end it was you who defeated Grindelwald one-on-one and stopped his ambitions. β
Dumbledore's eyes flickered, he didn't deny or admit it, and shook his head to change the subject.
"But that was forty-six years ago, I mean, we're all old now, Minerva. β
Compared with Professor McGonagall, who is devoted to teaching, Dumbledore, who has been guarding Hogwarts and the British wizarding world like a patronus, has long seen the increasingly distant gap between the wizarding world and the Muggle world. Or to be precise, as Grindelwald's best friend when he was a teenager, in fact, even to this day, Dumbledore still has a very complicated attitude towards Grindelwald.
Over the past few decades, some of Grindelwald's seemingly alarmist predictions have been coming true. Muggles had outdone wizards in many areas, and Dumbledore remembered a Muggle weapon he had stumbled upon a few years earlier, known as the Atomic Bomb.
That is not in line with the Ministry of Magic's Division for the Prohibition of Muggle Supplies, where only wizards can bully Muggles, and the non-magical world already has the forbidden power to destroy an area.
Before you know it, the wizarding world has begun to be abandoned by mainstream human society, and the most obvious sign of this is the emergence of more and more non-magical creations that wizards don't useβas if the Muggles didn't use magical creations are repeating it.
This is why over the years, despite the opposition of the school board and pure-blood families, he has increased the number of Muggle students every year. Because in his opinion, one day, the barrier between the two worlds will disappear, and at that time, either the two will coexist or one will perish.
"Elena Kaslana, I can clearly see Grindelwald's shadow in her. But it is the hope of a new world that is more malleable and can be turned back. Maybe she's the one who can change the whole world, magical or non-magical. The only problem was that she wasn't on the side of the wizarding world right now. β
Dumbledore's expression was extremely solemn, he looked at Professor McGonagall, and said solemnly.
"Imagine if there was a Grindelwald in a non-magical world. It would not just be a catastrophe for Britain, but a whole great shock that would affect the whole world. Crucially, she is younger, smarter, and more dangerous than all of us. β
"So, Professor Dumbledore, what do you mean?" McGonagall frowned in confusion.
"Take her back to Hogwarts!" Dumbledore thought for a moment and added, "Of course, try to be gentle. It would be great if she could be made to enrol voluntarily. β
