Chapter 55: Countermeasures

Any rational and intelligent creature in Ferdia understands the fact that there is nothing eternal in this world except for the gods of the abode of the gods and the ancient dragons of the First Age of Ferdia legends who have replaced death with long sleep, and no matter how long a life is, it will come to an end sooner or later.

Natural death is a gift from Liv, the goddess of life, to every living being. When a life reaches the end of its lifespan, one of the laws of the world that the goddess made at the beginning of the creation of the gods will guide the soul of that living creature to the plane of the realm of the dead, so that life and the environment in the mortal world are always in a state of balance and harmony - which is why many druids who believe in the principle of balance are willing to make Liv their god of faith.

Eternal life, however, is an ethereal but tangible temptation, like the forbidden fruit of the Garden of Eden, which makes the two people in another myth tempt to pick and eat it.

Even if the sane creatures understand that everything has a beginning and an end, greedy ** will still drive them to ask for more for themselves.

So, the god of death, Des, seized on this flaw and brought to the mortal world a race as difficult and terrifying as a nightmare: the undead.

The existence of any undead in the mortal world is a desecration of life at all times, but while some despise these ugly and twisted undead creatures, others do not care about it for the greater good.

After all, a lifetime is too short for some people with pursuits and ambitions, and it is for this reason that many of Finn's memories of his previous life have voluntarily torn off the skin of humans and settled in the realm of the undead on the northern shore of the St. Furren Sea.

Among these people are Fern's memories of the Blood Sword Saint Raymond, Ghost Captain Jackson, the Grey Fir Lord Grand Duke Magdaru, and the Lich Constantine who single-handedly founded the Calamity Wizards' Society.

"Mr. Paladin, look...... Can I come down? After a while, the hunchbacked pirate wizard felt that Finn's face had changed a little, so he pretended to be very uncomfortable and begged, "You see, the collar of my clothes has been lifted, and my breathing seems to be a little uncomfortable... Uh, refreshed. โ€

With that, he stared at Finn pitifully, as if Finn were a bully who had bullied him severely.

Finn withdrew most of his attention from his thoughts to reality, and he glanced at the pirate wizard in front of him, and then instead of letting go of his hand on the latter's collar, he butโ€”

"Poofโ€”"

A sharp blade stabbed flesh with a hiss.

The young paladin raised the whistling blade and pierced the pirate wizard's body.

Mogodo's two dark blue pupils shrank into a pair of trembling dots in his eyes, the hunchbacked pirate wizard had planned to take advantage of the moment Finn put him back on the ground to find an opportunity to escape or sneak attack, but he never expected the young paladin to give him such a hand.

Don't give a way to live at all!

Hey, you damn stinky boy, are you really a paladin?! - Mogordo questioned in his heart, a twist of consternation and pain on his face.

However, as if he had seen through the pirate wizard's calculations, Finn replied to him as a matter of course, "You deserve it." โ€

The words of the young paladin made the pirate wizard stunned.

Immediately afterward, Mogordo felt that the legendary plane of the Dead seemed to be getting closer and closer to him, and he suddenly finally removed the last layer of his disguise in great fear, and his face revealed a look of hatred and unwillingness.

"Demon ......" a mouthful of blood spilled out of his mouth, his eyes glaring at Finn viciously, "You cunning demon, you must have done it on purpose...... You deliberately threatened me to say what you wanted before killing me! You never thought about letting me live in the first place! โ€

For the next two seconds, the hunchbacked pirate wizard cursed the young paladin in front of him again in the most tasteful words he could think of, and Finn replied by pulling the Whistling Blade out of his body.

Mogodo's body shuddered, his consciousness and his soul detached from his body, and his neck slammed from Finn's hand to the floor on the roof of the town hall.

The rain quickly washed away the blood on both sides of the back of the Whizzing Blade, and Finn lowered his head to look down at the hunchbacked corpse that had fallen at his feet, turned to pick up the wooden staff he had used in his life and put it in the empty pocket, and then put away the greatsword in his hand and hung it back behind his back.

Lilith, Arya, Arroyo, Raymond, and Monroe were there to witness the whole process of Finn killing Mogordo, and all of them, except for Lilith, who was a little lacking in common sense, showed a look of surprise on their faces.

They suddenly wanted to remind Finn of the precepts of the paladin, and asked the young man, whose brain circuit structure was obviously a little different from that of the traditional paladin, "Is this really good?" โ€

However, they thought about it rationally, and then found that although Finn's actions somewhat shocked the traditional image of the paladin in people's hearts, there was nothing wrong with it, but it also extracted a lot of important information from the mouth of the pirate wizard named Mogodo.

If it had been another paladin to deal with this, the hunchbacked wizard might have been slaughtered before he could say anything.

After a while, Finn pinched his chin and thought about his next move, then raised his head and looked at Monroe, the old city lord who had been slowly lifted up from the ground by Arroyo and Raymond again.

"Lord of the City, let's go back to the city hall first." The young paladin looked at the old city lord in front of him and proposed, "In order to fight Redbeard Jackson and his gang of pirates, I think we need to work out a workable plan. โ€

Time goes back a few minutes.

The cavalry assembled by Finn had been cleared of the pirates around the town hall under the command of Konush and Ducker. At this moment, Ducker, the mercenary leader of the Bobcat Mercenary Regiment, stayed downstairs in the town hall to organize the mercenaries and the few refugees who volunteered to follow Finn to garrison the main entrance of the city hall, while Finn, Lilith, Arya, Arroyo, Raymond, Cornus, and Monro gathered in a conference room on the second floor of the town hall, sitting around a large round table for meetings.

The room was untouched by the previous series of battles, and the relatively neat interior seemed to be out of place with the howling rain outside.

Finn gathered the crowd in the room, told them in the most concise and necessary words about the Dark Alliance's machinations, his own deductions about Redbeard Jackson, and his improvised strategy of action, and showed them the black diary that had been found in the remains of Co'vogart.

The black diary was passed and flipped through in everyone's hands like a heavy mission. The official language of the realm of the dead is the same lingua franca as human society, and everyone present learned about the terrible plan of the Dark Moon Council from the Black Knight's diary, and immediately felt an inescapable sense of responsibility pressing their shoulders from behind.

After a while, Monroe, who had finally flipped through the diary, closed the small black book in his hand with a complicated expression, raised his hand and supported his forehead with some melancholy.

"So, Redbeard's goal is to kidnap some young women with spellcaster potential to make a monster called the Scarlet Bride, and you want to count that damn pirate captain against that, right?" In the middle of the night, the old lord of the old city handed Finn back Co'vogart's diary, and asked Fynn with helpless and serious feelings in his tone.

"That's right." Finn nodded lightly and took the journal from Monroe's hand.

After that, he turned his head to look at the uncle who was in charge of the mercenary association on the side, and delecated: "Mr. Konush, as I said to you just now, I hope that you and Captain Duke can lead our cavalry team to defeat the pirates in the town, and it is best to attract all the attention of the pirates around this area to you. The more you keep those villains at bay, and the looser Redbeard Jackson's defenses on the port side, the more likely it is that my side will succeed. โ€

"It's not a big problem to contain pirates in the township." Konush took a deep breath and looked at Finn, "But ...... How sure are you of the actions on your side? โ€

"There is no absolute inevitability...... "Finn paused, then looked at Konush seriously, "but I think that as long as there are no surprises in the plan, my side is more than ninety percent sure in an ideal situation." โ€

"Of course, I mean the certainty of success."
