Chapter 33: Rei's Luck
The exit in front of Rei was narrow, and even Julius had to bend slightly to walk inside. Measuring the size of the exit, Julius felt that he should be comfortable walking inside, but the strong men might not feel so good. But anyway, this is also a passage for people to pass through, as long as they are not giants, then most people can pass through.
"Is this the new passage?" asked Julius.
"Yes, but it's also okay to say no. Rei replied. Leigh confused Julius, "What does that mean?"
Lei stepped inside, then looked back at Julius, "Just follow me." ”
Julius followed Rei inside. After entering the narrow passage, the light of the fire stopped spreading outward, making the light that enveloped the two of them brighter, and making it easier for Julius to see. The passage seemed to be filled with a cold air, giving Julius goosebumps on his skin. The passage was much colder than outside, and the breeze blowing from across the passage deepened the feeling. The flames on the torches swayed in the wind, fluttering behind Julius.
The passage was not long, and Julius and Rei soon came to an end. Even in such a passage with only two directions, Rei is marking it with a guide stone. By the time the two of them reached the end, the bag in her hand was empty, and only one was left in her hand.
Julius thought that Rei would take her to a completely new place, but when she reached the end of the passage, he froze. There was no exit, no other way in front of him, just a thick wall. The walls were not made of masonry, but of stone. This is presumably a whole boulder that has blocked the place, which is much stronger and more reliable than the walls. Masonry can be blown up with explosives, but a complete boulder is more difficult to blast if you don't drill holes in it.
"There's no way out. Julius said with a frown. If this is what Rei is talking about as a new area...... Wasting a whole bag of waystones to get such a gain, and giving Rei and Julius free access to the safety of the sewers, although the loss was not large, but being fooled by a little girl like this, those people would not have a good face.
"Like you, when I first came here, I thought I had made a mistake, there was no new area at all, this place was just an endless dead end, how could it be so easy to find a new place to search. Lei had a smile on her face and looked confident. She crouched down, not knowing what she was fumbling on the ground, and she didn't feel dirty, and her hands slid on the ground. After a while, Julius heard the click of the stones rubbing against each other.
"Found it. Rei's voice sounded happier. Then Julius saw an incredible scene, the boulder that was blocking the way, actually moving slowly downward, knowing that the space behind it was exposed. As the boulder moved away, the wind became louder and more sounds came.
Lei crouched on the ground and looked up at Julius, "I'm lucky, right?"
"Is this a place that can be discovered by luck?" asked Julius rhetorically.
Lei clapped her hands and slapped the sewage off her hands, "But as long as you're lucky, you can really make new discoveries." ”
For Julius, Leigh was a little optimistic, perhaps overly optimistic. But she did find places that others didn't seem to find at all, and she attributed that to luck.
Rei stepped in first, not worrying about anything dangerous lurking behind the stone wall. Seeing Rei look so defenseless, Julius thought to herself that she must have been to this place several times.
"You've been to this place. Julius said, and then Rei replied in the affirmative, "Of course I've been here, but this is the first time I've brought someone here." There are places where I can get through, so I can dodge those costs, but you can't, you're not a dwarf. ”
Julius understood why Rey did what she did. She needed someone who could protect her, but that person couldn't dodge the costs of the rats like her little mouse. Both he and she are people who are already struggling to make ends meet, especially Julius's food is surprisingly high, and she even allows Rei to help Julius with a part of her little gain.
Julius followed Rei and walked through the stone door that had been lowered. After walking for a while, the two of them finally left the labyrinthine place behind them. In front of their eyes, there was a completely different world. The two of them stood on a platform high in the air, with no place to settle or stairs to go down. This space is a circular passage leading up and down that looks like a large vertical tube. The platform was edged by a smooth wall, and there was no place to settle on it, and it didn't even look like there was a place to climb. Down there was a bottomless abyss, and up there was also pitch black, and I didn't know where it led or if there was no place to pass on it.
The platform on which Julius and Rei were standing now had a guardrail on the side, which kept the two of them from slipping under their feet. However, the fence has been eroded by moisture and dripping water for many years, and it does not look very reliable. Julius stepped over and pressed his hand against the guardrail. The guardrail creaked, and as he thought, it was not reassuring. Neither he nor Rei had any intention of pinning their safety on these things.
Julius looked around for a moment and concluded one thing: it seemed like a place of freshness, but it was actually a dead end. You can't go up, and you can't go down - unless you jump, go down as a dead man.
"It's also a dead end. Julius said, "I'm afraid those guys won't be satisfied with what you're giving in return." ”
Julius had dealt with the big guys, who were rude and stingy.
"If they're willing to put in the effort, they can make a ladder to go down. Most of the roads from shallow water to the middle level are ladders, and there will be only one more ladder here. ”
"Is this the end of the road?"
Rei shook her head, "No, that's the end of these guiding stones. She threw the last stone in her hand underneath. "I have a way down. ”
