Section 2: The Devil's Ear
It was getting dark, and I couldn't see the direction in the dense forest. In the evening, a mist rises in the woods, and an icy chill rises from under your feet, making it feel a little too cold even in late summer.
"Duran, we should find a place to rest, and we will be able to walk out of this dense forest in half a day at most and reach the White River Wharf in the east of White Sands Town. Traveling at night is not a good decision β especially when we are not in a hurry. Kate shook the rain off her clothes and signaled that it was dark.
Duran nodded, but his gaze shifted to the ogre holding Abu in his arms.
Ironhide immediately replied, "Even if it's dark, I know the way out of this forest, but it's not safe to walk at night." β
Duran looked around and suddenly asked, "Kate, did you say that this dense forest is the White River Wharf?" β
The Demon Warlock didn't know why, but nodded affirmatively.
Duran's gaze sharpened, and he took a few steps forward, muttering to himself in a low voice, "It shouldn't be far away." β
"I'm sorry, Duran, what are you talking about?" Kate was a little confused.
Duran waved his hand and motioned for the group to follow him.
The path ahead diverged and the dense woods did not show any sign of thinning, and at one fork in the road, Duran carefully examined the skin of several ginkgo trees. He groped his hands on the cold bark, and in a short time Duran's face showed a hint of joy.
"Sure enough, here it is!" A piece of bark was easily peeled off by Duran, revealing the tiny arrows carved beneath the bark of the ginkgo tree.
"What does this arrow mean?" Kate leaned over curiously.
"Directions, of course." Duran walked in the direction of the arrow, explaining as he went: "When the local hunters go into the mountains to hunt, they always build a few temporary hunter huts in some places. In autumn, you can reach the great meadows at the northern foot of Mount Helga β a great place for hunting, so there are quite a few hunters' huts in this forest. β
"You mean, the place where this arrow points is the Hunter's Cabin?" Kate immediately understood what Duran meant.
Duran nodded, brushing aside the wet leaves in front of him and carefully observing the surroundings. His perception was high, but not so high as to perceive all the dangers - as for the talent for data streaming, Duran couldn't always turn on the visual ability, otherwise the ever-changing data around him alone would be enough to blow his brain up.
"If we're lucky, we won't have to spend the night in a cave tonight like we did the nights before - like a caveman or an ogre." Duran stepped over a thick tree trunk and turned back to signal, "Be careful." β
Ironhide immediately protested, "Master, you can't say that. Ogres also live in houses, and you can't compare lowly stupid cavemen with us, it's an insult to us. β
Kate chuckled, "If all ogres can speak the lingua franca as smoothly as you do, I still agree with you." β
"Thanks for the compliment." Ironhide replied without blushing and heartbeat, "I am indeed outstanding in my kind, but I do not despise them for it. β
"You just hate them very much, don't you? They single-handedly created an ogre who had lived for more than a decade but had never eaten human flesh. Duran blinked, and he found another hidden arrow, which was deeper than before, meaning that the hut was already close at hand.
"Yes, I hate them." Ironhide said calmly: "It's not because they don't let me eat human flesh, it's that they don't agree with me and my wisdom. β
"Believe me, as my follower, I identify with your wisdom." Duran led the group out of the wet woodland, and suddenly the front became empty, and a small wooden house loomed in the mist. "But I also think like your companions that you lack enough courage, and that the cowardly will never succeed, and that it is time for you to change your problem."
Tin Fur said hopefully, "Master, help me, I want to make a change too!" β
"Okay, the first thing you need to do now is shut up!" Duran's voice changed from high to low, and he suddenly lowered his body and motioned for the group to stop advancing.
The ogre closed her mouth in amusement, and Kate was a little puzzled, but when she saw the faint light of fire coming from the hut in front of her, she immediately understood what was happening - it was not hunting season, and the hunter's hut must be empty.
The dim light came from the windows of the hut at this time, and it was certainly no ordinary hunter who was waiting - it was up to to us to find out.
"Stand back, I'll take a look." Duran commanded.
"Wait." Kate whispered, "Maybe there's a safer way." β
Duran looked at her, the demonic warlock's silver pupils were full of sincerity and confidence, he thought about it, and finally retreated with the others.
The group hid behind the branches of the bushes, looking at the strange lights coming from the hut in the distance, and there was always an indescribable sense of crisis in their hearts.
"I have a strong feeling that the characters in it must be very dangerous." Kay froze and said to Duran, "But I can try to eavesdrop on their conversation." β
Duran was a little curious, he hadn't seen the power of a demon warlock yet. Demon warlocks can be roughly divided into two categories, one is ordinary humans, who can borrow the power of demons after signing a contract with the demons of the abyss; The other type is people who are born with demon blood, and their ancestors used to be demons, so there are occasionally a few people who have awakened the talent of demon bloodline among the descendants. Kate belongs to the latter, and it is said that her bloodline is inherited from the great lord of a certain layer of the Abyssal Void Plane, and her potential and power are the best choice. It's a pity that the price of bloodline awakening is too great - Kate was bitter because her mother died at the whip of a dragon lord, and passively activated the demon bloodline and became a demon warlock.
Her demonic bloodline gave her the ability to freely borrow the magic of the Abyss, and it was clear that the first to die under Kate's spell was the brutal Dragonlord Lord.
Under the curious gazes of Duran and Ironhide, the silver-haired warlock straightened his slightly messy hair slightlyβDuran couldn't help but ask, "Is this also a necessary action before casting a spell?" β
Kate rolled her eyes: "This is one of the natural skills of girls, Duran, you have to learn to be patient and wait." β
Duran touched his nose and signaled that he was patient.
A low chant came from Kate's mouth, the same abyssal language, and Brooke and Kate's accents were very different, the former was fast and slurred, the latter was concise and clear. Just four phrases, Kate's spell is complete.
"Two-ring spell, [Demon Ear]."
A faint cloud of black gas swirled back and forth in Kate's hand, and finally condensed into a uniquely shaped ear.
Kate pricked up the ear and handed it to Duran: "Stick it to your ear and you can hear the conversation in the room." β
Duran's eyes widened, "Isn't this a bugging?" It's amazing......"
He really didn't know much about demonic sorcerers, and he accidentally shook out all the terms on earth.
"What is a bugging device?" Kate frowned.
Duran hurriedly took the demon's ear, attached it to his ear, and said, "It's nothing, it's nothing, it's just a spell that has a similar effect." β
Kate was obviously not very happy with this reply, but she saw that Duran had begun to eavesdrop on the conversation of the people in the room in a serious manner, and put the question to a halt for a while.
The sound in the demon's ears was very indistinct, not just rustling, but also intermittent - which made Duran nostalgic for China to move.
There were probably two people in the room, at least Duran only heard the conversation between the two people, and he listened for a moment, and his face gradually became heavy.
"Viruses, viruses, pathogens...... Seed ......"
"Brought, great ...... Mother of Other. β
"Before the Harvest Festival Ball...... Big Pudding City begins to ......"
"Understand ......"
