Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Battle of the Secret Room
Section I
Harry and Ron escorted Lockhart to the girls' bathroom, where Myrtle was, sitting on her usual toilet.
Myrtle excitedly told how she had died, and she gushed as if she were showing off.
"All I remember seeing was a pair of frighteningly large yellow eyes. It was as if my whole body had been caught, and I floated away......" Myrtle looked at Harry in a trance. "Then I came back. You know, I'm hell-bent on settling accounts with Olive Horn. Oh, and she regretted laughing at me for wearing glasses. ”
"Where the hell did you see those eyes?" Harry asked.
"Pretty much right there." Myrtle said, gesturing vaguely to the pool in front of her. Harry and Ron hurried over. Lockhart hurriedly stepped aside, a terrified expression on his face. The pool looked normal. They checked it inside and out, up and down, and didn't let go of the water pipes underneath. Then Harry saw a small snake carved into the side of a bronze dragon's head. "This faucet never comes out of the water." Myrtle said happily when she saw that Harry wanted to unscrew the faucet. "Harry," Ron said, "you say a few words. Say a few words in a parseltongue. ”
Harry thought desperately, staring at the carved little snake, trying to imagine it as a real snake.
"Open." He said.
He looked up at Ron, who shook his head.
Harry turned his head back to look at the snake again, forcing himself to believe it was alive. "Open." He said.
However, instead of hearing the words, what came out of his mouth was a strange hissing sound. Suddenly, the dragon's head emitted a dazzling white light and began to spin rapidly. Then the pool moved. They watched as the pool slowly faded from view, revealing a very thick pipe that could fit a person in.
Harry heard Ron gasp. He looked up, and he had already made up his mind what to do.
"I'm going down." He said.
He couldn't help but go, now that they had found the entrance to the chamber, and since there was a small, faint, slim glimmer of hope: Ginny might still be alive.
"I'll go too." Ron said.
A moment of silence.
"Well, it looks like you don't need me anymore," Lockhart said, a slight smile on his face that he was used to, "I'just—"
He reached for the doorknob, but both Ron and Harry pointed their wands at him.
"You can be the first to go down." Ron yelled.
Lockhart, who had lost his wand, turned pale and slowly approached the entrance of the cave.
"Children," he said, in a pitiful voice, "children, what's the use of that?"
Harbhart stabbed him in the back with his wand, and Lockhart stuck his legs in the tube.
"I really don't think so—" He tried to go on, but Ron pushed him, and he slipped down and couldn't see it. Harry followed suit, slowly digging into the pipe, and then let go of his hand, allowing himself to slide down.
It felt like speeding down a dark, slimy, endless slide. He could see that there were many other pipes that were branching out in all directions, but none of them were as thick as this one. Their pipe twisted and turned, and the slope was steep all the way down, and he suddenly fell to the ground. The water pipe became horizontal, and he came out of the mouth of the pipe, and fell to the damp ground with a pop. It was a dark stone tunnel, big enough for a person to stand in. Near him, Lockhart was rising from the ground, covered in slimy mud and pale as a ghost. Harry stepped aside, and Ron snorted out of the pipe.
"We must have been miles below the school." Harry said, his voice echoing through the dark tunnel.
"Probably at the bottom of the lake." Ron said. He narrowed his eyes and surveyed the black, slimy walls around him.
Then, all three of them turned their eyes to the darkness ahead.
"Fluorescent flicker!" Harry whispered a word to his wand, and it glowed again. "Let's go." He said to Ron and Lockhart. The three leopard feet clattered on the wet ground, making a loud noise.
It was so dark in the tunnel that they could only see a small area in front of them. The light of the wand reflected their shadows on the wet walls, looking like youkai.
"Remember," Harry whispered as they cautiously walked forward, "close your eyes as soon as there is any movement......
"I don't know if the glasses Sauron gave you are useful," Ron whispered, "I hope it will protect you from harm." ”
The tunnel was as silent as a grave, and all they heard was an unexpected sound, a click, which turned out to be Ron stepping on a rat skull. Harry lowered his wand and looked at the ground, where he saw the bones of some critters everywhere. Harry desperately restrained himself from imagining what it would be like for Ginny to be found by them. He led the way forward, turning a dark bend in the tunnel.
"Harry, there's something there......" Ron said hoarsely as he grabbed Harry's shoulder.
The three of them stood still and stared. Harry saw the silhouette of a coiled behemoth, lying motionless on the other side of the tunnel.
"Maybe it's asleep." He gasped and looked back at the other two. Lockhart pressed his hand tightly to his eyes. Harry turned his head to look at the behemoth again, his heart beating fast and he felt a dull pain in his chest.
Harry narrowed his eyes as small as he could, and at the same time could see, and he really wanted his glasses to be protective now. He slowly moved forward sideways, wand held high in his hand.
The light shone on a huge snakeskin, green and bright, and at first glance it looked like the skin of a poisonous snake, coiled around the floor of the tunnel, and the inside was empty. Apparently, the animal that had just shed this layer of skin was at least twenty feet long.
"Oh my God." Ron sighed feebly.
Suddenly, there was a movement behind them. It was Gilderoy Lockhart who went limp in his knee and collapsed.
"Get up." Ron said sternly, pointing his wand at Lockhart.
Lockhart stood up—he lunged on Ron, knocking him to the ground.
Harry rushed forward, but it was too late. Lockhart stood up breathlessly, Ron wand in his hand, his characteristic smile on his face, and his sparkling teeth.
"Kids, this is the end of your adventure!" He said, "I'm going to take this leather to school, and tell them that I'm too late to save the girl, and that you lose your mind when you see her bloody body."
"Farewell to your memories!"
He held Ron's malfunctioning wand high above his head and shouted, "Forget it!" Harry pulled Ron back the moment Lockhart raised his wand, shouting "armor protection"
"Bang!" The wand in Lockhart's hand suddenly exploded, no less powerful than a small bomb. Harry used his arms to cover his head and ran, tripping over the coiled snakeskin and dodging the massive pieces of rubble that had crumbled from the tunnel ceiling to the ground. Then, he stood up and faced a thick wall of rubble alone.
"Ron!" He shouted, "Are you alright?" Ron!"
"I'm here!" Ron's muffled voice could be heard from behind the gravel wall. "I'm fine. But the fool was out of luck - he was hit by a wand. ”
With a dull crash, someone screamed loudly: "Ouch. From the sound of the voice, it seemed that Ron had kicked Lockhart in the calf.
"What now?" Ron said, his voice looking desperate, "We can't get by." It takes a long time to ......"
Harry looked up at the ceiling of the tunnel, where several large breaches appeared. He'd never tried to magically separate something as big as these rocks, and it didn't seem appropriate to try it now - what if the whole tunnel collapsed? There was another crash and a "sigh" from the other side of the rock. They're wasting their time. Ginny had been in the Chamber of Secrets for hours. Harry knew there was only one way to do it.
"Wait here," he said loudly to Ron, "and wait with Lockhart." I kept going. If I don't come back within an hour......"
A meaningful pause followed.
"I'll see if I can get this rock removed," Ron said, seemingly trying to keep his tone steady, "so you can—you can get back." And, Harry—"
"See you later." Harry said, trying to inject some confidence into his trembling voice.
Then, alone, he walked through the huge snakeskin.
Soon, the sound of Ron moving stones was inaudible. The tunnel took one turn and the next. Every nerve in Harry was shaking uncomfortably. He wanted to get to the end of the tunnel quickly, but at the same time he was afraid that the tunnel would really come to an end. At last, he cautiously turned another corner, and at last found a sturdy wall in front of him, carved with two intertwined snakes, their eyes studded with large, shining emeralds.
Harry approached step by step, feeling his throat dry. There is no need to assume that these two stone snakes are real now, their eyes look exactly like they are alive.
Harry guessed what he had to do. He cleared his throat, and the emerald eyes seemed to flicker.
"Open." Harry said in a low, hoarse hiss.
The two snakes separated, and the stone wall cracked in the middle and slowly slid to both sides and disappeared. Trembling, Harry walked inside.
He also stood on the side of a long, dimly lit room. Many stone pillars carved with coiled snakes towered to support the ceiling that melted into the darkness of the heights, casting long, eerie black shadows on the entire room filled with green and mystery.
Harry's heart pounded as he stood there, listening to the chilling silence. He drew his wand and slowly made his way through the stone pillars coiled around the serpent. Every careful step he took created a hollow, loud echo between the four walls of the ghostly buildings. He kept squinting, ready to close his eyes tightly at the slightest hint of wind. He always felt that the empty eye sockets of the two stone snakes were always following him. More than once, he seemed to see some movement, and his stomach was so nervous that his stomach spasmed. When he walked parallel to the last pair of stone columns, a statue as tall as the room itself appeared, clinging to the dark wall behind it.
Harry had to crane his neck high to see the huge face above: an old, monkey-like face, a long, sparse beard that dragged almost all the way to the hem of a stone-carved wizard's robe, two large gray feet standing on the smooth floor of the room. Between those two feet, face down, lay a small figure in a black robe, with hair as red as flames.
"Ginny!" Harry whispered, hurried to her side, and knelt down. "Ginny! You don't want to die! Please, don't die!" He tossed his wand aside, grabbed Ginny's shoulder, and flipped her over. Her face was marble, cold and bloodless, but her eyes were closed, so she was not petrified. Well, she must have ......, "Ginny, please wake up." Harry shook her desperately and pleaded in a low voice. Ginny's head drooped lifelessly.
"She's not going to wake up." A voice said softly. Harry was taken aback and turned on his knees.
A tall, dark-haired boy was leaning against the nearest stone pillar and was watching him. The boy's silhouette was blurry and strange, as if Harry were looking at him through a foggy window. But there is no doubt that it is him.
"Tom-Tom Riddle?" Riddle nodded, his eyes not taking off Harry's face.
"What do you mean by that? She won't wake up? Harry asked angrily, "She didn't—she didn't ——?." She's still alive," Riddle said, "but not for long." Harry stared at him stunned.
"Are you a ghost?" Harry asked uncertainly.
"It's a memory," Riddle said calmly, "for fifty years in a diary." He pointed to the statue's big toe. There lay the journal that Harry had found in the weeping Myrtle's bathroom.
"You have to help me, Tom." Harry said, picking Ginny's head again, "We've got to get her out of here." There is a basilisk...... I don't know where, but it could come by at any time. Please, help me......"
Riddle didn't move. Sweating profusely, Harry finally half-picked Ginny up from the ground, and he leaned over to pick up his magic skills. But the wand was gone. "Did you see—"
When he looked up, Riddle was still staring at him—long fingers playing with Harry's wand. "Thank you." Harry said, reaching for his wand. A wry smile tugged at the corner of Riddle's mouth. He continued to stare at Harry, nonchalantly playing with his wand.
"Listen to me," said Harry anxiously, his knees weak as the dead Ginny weighed down, "we must go!" If the basilisk comes......"
"It will not come without being called." Riddle said indifferently.
Harry put Ginny back on the floor, and he couldn't hold her anymore.
"What do you mean by that?" He said, "Hurry up, give me the wand, I might need it." ”
Riddle's smile was even more pronounced.
"You won't need it anymore." He said.
Harry looked at him in surprise.
"What do you say, I won't-"
"Harry. Potter, I've waited a long time," Riddle said, "and hope to have the opportunity to see you." Talk to you. ”
"Oops," Harry said as he lost his patience, "you probably haven't understood what I mean. We are now in the Chamber of Secrets. We might as well come back to that later. ”
"It has to be talked about now." Riddle said, still with a distinct smile on his face, as he slipped Harry's wand into his pocket.
Harry looked at him dumbfounded. It's so weird what's going on here.
"How did Ginny end up like this?" He asked slowly.
"Oh, that's an interesting question," Riddle said pleasantly. "It's a long story. In my opinion, the real reason why Ginny Weasley is like this is that she opened up to an unseen stranger and confided all her secrets. ”
"What are you talking about?" Harry said.
"Diary," Riddle said, "my diary." For months, little Ginny had been writing her heartfelt words to me, telling me about her distressing troubles and sorrows: how she had been teased by her brothers, how she had to wear old robes and carry old books to school, and, she thought—"Riddle's eyes twinkled slyly," she thought that the famous, kind, and great Harry Potter would never like her......
Riddle's eyes never took off Harry's face as he spoke. There was a look of greed hidden in his eyes.
"It's so tedious to listen to an eleven-year-old girl talk about her childish troubles," he continued, "but I have the patience to write something in reply to her, and I am kind and understanding. Ginny was so in love with me. Oh Tom, no one understands me like you...... I'm so glad I got this diary to tell you...... It's like having a friend that you can carry in your pocket......"
Riddle let out a cold, shrill laugh, not like a sixteen-year-old. This made the hairs on the back of Harry's neck stand on end.
"It's not me boasting, Harry, I've always been able to fool people as much as I want. So, Ginny opened her whole soul to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I needed. I devoured her most secret fears, her deepest secrets, and my appetite grew. I'm getting stronger, much stronger than little Miss Weasley. Strong enough to reveal a few of my secrets to Miss Weasley, and begin to open up a small part of my soul to her......"
"What did you say?" Harry asked, feeling his throat burning with fire.
"Can't you guess, Harry Potter?" Riddle whispered, "It was Ginny Weasley who opened the Chamber of Secrets. It was she who strangled the in the school and scribbled those scary words on the walls. It was she who unleashed the Slytherin basilisk and attacked the four Mudbloods, as well as the skinny cat of the Squib. ”
"Impossible." Harry muttered.
"yes," Riddle said calmly, "of course, she didn't know what she was doing at first. It's very interesting. I'd love you to read some of her new journals...... It's getting more and more interesting...... Dear Tom," he said, looking into Harry's frightened eyes, reciting the contents of his diary, "I felt as if I was losing my memory. My robes are covered with chicken feathers, and I don't know how they got there. Dear Tom, I don't remember what I did on Halloween Eve, but a cat was killed and my chest was covered in paint. Dear Tom, Percy always told me that I had a bad face and a somewhat unusual look. I think he might be suspicious of me...... There was another attack today, and I can't remember where I was at the time. Tom, what should I do? I feel like I'm going crazy...... Harry's brother always looked at me coldly, and today he petrified a Hufflepuff in public, and the students said he did it, but I think I'm the one who attacked all of them, Tom!"
Harry's fists clenched, his nails digging deep into his flesh, and he didn't notice Riddle's slight pause at the mention of Sauron.
"It was a long, long time before the silly little Ginny stopped trusting her diary." "She finally got suspicious and tried to throw it away." That's when you plugged in, Harry. I couldn't be happier to have found it. I didn't expect that among so many people, you actually picked up this diary, you are the person I most desperate want to meet......"
"Why do you want to see me?" Harry asked. He was furious, and it took a lot of effort to keep his tone steady.
"Oh, that's right, Harry, Ginny told me everything about you," said Riddle, "and you've had a thrilling past. His gaze swept over the lightning-shaped scar on Harry's forehead, and the look on his face grew hungrier. I knew I had to learn more about you, talk to you, and see you in person if possible. So I decided to let you witness my famous feat of capturing Hagrid's big idiot in order to gain your trust in me. ”
"Hagrid is my friend," said Harry, his voice trembling a little now, "you framed him, didn't you?" I thought you were mistaken, but I didn't-"
Riddle let out his high-pitched, shrill laugh again.
"I was the one who exposed Hagrid, Harry. You can imagine the situation in front of Mr. Armando Dupet. On the one hand, I, Tom Riddle, who came from a poor but brilliant background, who had both parents dead but were both wise and brave, was a prefect and model student in the school; On the other hand, there's the stupid big Hagrid, who is clumsy, troublemaker, and gets into trouble every other week, and he keeps werewolf cubs under his bed. Sneak into the Forbidden Forest and fight the trolls. But I have to admit that even I didn't expect the plan to go so smoothly. I thought someone would realize that Hagrid couldn't be the heir to Slytherin. It took me five years to figure out what was going on in the secret room and discover the secret entrance...... Could it be that Hagrid has such a mind and such ability? It seems that only Dumbledore, the Transfiguration teacher, thinks Hagrid is innocent. He persuaded Duper to keep Hagrid and train him to be a hunting ground warden. Yes, I think Dumbledore was probably aware of it. Dumbledore doesn't seem to like me as much as the other teachers do......"
"I dare say Dumbledore has seen you through." Harry said through gritted teeth.
"yes, he's been keeping a close eye on me since Hagrid was expelled, and he's very annoying." Riddle said nonchalantly, "I know, it wouldn't be safe to open the Chamber of Secrets when I was at school. But I don't want to waste all these years of trying to find the secret room. I decided to keep a journal in which I could keep the sixteen-year-old me, so that one day, by luck, I could guide another person in my footsteps to the noble cause of Salazar Slytherin. ”
"But you're not done," said Harry smugly, "not a single one died this time, not even the cat. Within a few hours, the Mandela herbal water was ready, and those who were petrified could be brought back to life. ”
"Didn't I just tell you?" Riddle whispered, "It's not important to me to kill the mudbloods anymore. For many months, my new target has been – you. ”
Harry glared at him in astonishment.
"When my diary was opened again, it was Ginny, not you, and you can imagine how annoyed I was. You know, she was very nervous when she saw the diary in your hands. What if you find out how to use the diary and I tell you all her secrets? Or worse, what if I sue you for who strangled the school's? So, this stupid little guy waited until your dorm room was empty and went in and stole the diary. But I knew what I had to do. I can see that you're looking for the heir of Slytherin. From what Ginny told me about you, I know you're going to do whatever it takes to unravel this secret—especially since one of your best friends has been attacked. Ginny once told me that everyone was talking about Parseltongue, especially if your brother was a Slytherin, and the whole school exploded...... So, I asked Ginny to write a desperate line on the wall and wait. She struggled desperately, crying and fussing, which was really irritating. But there wasn't much life left in her body: she poured most of her life into the diary, into me, so that I could finally leave the journal. I've been waiting for you ever since Ginny and I got here. I knew you were coming. I have a lot of questions for you, Harry Potter. ”
"What's the problem?" Harry snapped, his fists still clenched.
"For example," said Riddle, with a happy smile on his face, "how did two babies, without any particularly magical spells, defeat the greatest wizard of all time?" How could you escape unharmed, leaving only a scar while Voldemort's power was destroyed?" Now, his wolf-hungry eyes glowed with a strange red glow. "Why do you care how I escaped?" Harry asked in a long voice, "Voldemort's happened many years after you died. ”
"Voldemort," Riddle whispered, "it's my past, present, and future, Harry Potter......" He pulled Harry's wand from his pocket, drew it in the air a few times, and wrote three shiny names: tommarvoloriddle, and with a flick of his wand, the letters automatically reversed places, becoming: Iamlordvolde-mort.
"See?" He whispered, "It's a name I've used since I was a student at Hogwarts, and only to my closest friends, of course. Do you think I'm going to use my filthy Muggle father's name for the rest of my life? You know, in my veins flows the blood of Salazar Slytherin himself, which was passed down to me by his daughter! Am I going to keep that disgusting generic Muggle name? He abandoned me before I was even born because he found out that his wife was a witch! No, Harry. I came up with a new name for myself, and I knew that one day, when I became the greatest magician in the world, wizards everywhere would not dare to say that name lightly! ”
Harry's mind seemed to freeze. He looked at Riddle blankly, this was the man who had been an orphan with both parents dead, and when he grew up, he had actually killed his own and his brother's parents, and so many others...... Finally, Harry finally forced himself to speak.
"You're not." He said, his calm voice filled with hatred.
"What's not?" Riddle asked sharply.
"Not the greatest wizard in the world," Harry said breathlessly, "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the greatest wizard in the world is Albus Dumbledore." Everybody says so. Even when you are powerful, you don't dare to try to control Hogwarts. Dumbledore saw you through when you were in school, and he still scares you, no matter where you're hiding these days. Harry took a breath, "Not only that, but just last year, your plot failed again," Harry exclaimed, "My brother defeated you!" ”
The smile on Riddle's face vanished, replaced by a cold, haughty expression. "I just used my memories to kick Dumbledore and your brother out of this castle," he said through gritted teeth.
"You're thinking beautifully, they didn't go!" Harry retorted. He said it casually, just to scare Riddle, he hoped what he said was true, but he couldn't believe it.
Riddle opened his mouth and was about to speak, but suddenly froze there.
The sound of music wafted from nowhere. Riddle jerked away, looking at the empty chamber. The music is getting louder and louder. The voice is illusory, ethereal and mysterious, and it is exciting to listen to. It made the hair stand on end on Harry's scalp and made his atria twice as large. The music grew louder and louder, and finally Harry felt as if it was vibrating in his chest. At that moment, flames erupted from the top of the nearest stone pillar.
A crimson bird, the size of a crane, suddenly descended from the sky, playing its strange music on the vaulted ceiling. It has a gleaming golden tail, as long as a peacock's tail, and a pair of glittering claws that clutch a tattered package on it.
A second later, the big bird flew straight towards Harry. It tossed the tattered thing from its paw at Harry's feet, and perched heavily on Harry's shoulder. As it folded its two massive wings, Harry looked up and saw that it had a long, sharp golden beak and two sparkling black eyes. The big bird stopped singing. It sat quietly on Harry's shoulder, hot against Harry's cheek, its gaze fixed on Riddle. "It's a phoenix...... "Riddle glared at it just as viciously.
"Fawkes?" Harry was almost breathless as he felt the big bird's golden melon seeds gently grasp his shoulder. "That thing—" Riddle turned his gaze back to the tattered thing Fawkes had just thrown down, "the broken sorting hat of the school." "Sure enough, it was. Dirty, crumpled and patched, lying motionless at Harry's feet. Riddle laughed maniacally again. He laughed so hard that the dark chamber trembled slightly, as if there were ten Riddles laughing at the same time. "That's what Dumbledore gave his protector! A singing bird and a broken hat! Harry Potter, do you feel daring? Do you feel safe?"
Harry didn't answer. He may not see the use of Fawkes and the Sorting Hat, but he felt no longer alone, and with growing courage, he waited for Riddle to stop his wild laughter. "Straight to business, Harry," Riddle said, still smirking smugly, "we've met twice in your past, in my future. I didn't manage to kill you twice. How did you survive the death? Sue me all of them. As long as your words last, how long your life can last. Harry thought quickly, weighing his chances of winning. Riddle held his wand. He, Harry, had Fawkes and the Sorting Hat, neither of which was of much use in a duel. Indeed, the situation is not good. But the longer Riddle stood there, the less life Ginny had...... At the same time, Harry suddenly noticed that Riddle's otherwise vague outline was becoming clear and steady. If there has to be a fight between him and Riddle, the sooner the better.
"No one knows why you suddenly lost your power when you attacked me and Sauron," Harry said stiffly, "I don't know it myself. But I know why you didn't kill us. Because my mother died to save us. That ordinary Muggle-born mother," he continued, trembling as she desperately suppressed her anger, "she prevented you from killing me and my brother. I've seen the real you, and I saw you again last year. All you're left with is a pile of rags, half-dead. Look at your supernatural powers, but you ended up in this end. You're hiding in Tibet, you're ugly, it's disgusting!"
Riddle's eyes narrowed. Then he smiled sinisterly.
"I see. Your mother died to save you. Yes, that's a very effective spell solution. I understand now - at the end of the day, there's nothing special about you. You know, I couldn't figure it out. Because I have some strange similarities with your brothers, Harry Potter. You must have noticed it yourself. We were all half-bloods, all orphans, and all raised by Muggles. Maybe it's the only two parseltongues to enter Hogwarts since the great Slytherin himself, and as for your brother, like me, a mighty Slytherin, we even look a little alike...... But at the end of the day, it turns out that you just escaped from me by luck. That's all I want to know. ”
Harry stood there, nervously waiting for Riddle to raise his wand. But Riddle's smile was even more hideous, but suddenly, his eyes narrowed as he looked behind Harry.
As if Harry's shadow appeared from the darkness, a man slowly walked out, the same figure, the same appearance, and even a large bird, a black phoenix, squatting on his shoulder.
"You're Sauron......" Voldemort's voice was dark and muffled, his eyes narrowing red, "I'm surprised." ”
Harry couldn't help but be surprised to see Sauron, at least he knew that Sauron's strength was far stronger than him, and maybe he could get these people out of danger. "Sauron, this man is Lord Voldemort, he got Ginny here, and he wants to ......," Harry said eagerly, but Sauron interrupted him with a wave of his hand.
Sauron looked at Voldemort with a blank expression, and Phobertor screamed defiantly at Fawkes.
"Fate is magical," said Sauron coldly, "once again, I'm facing you, Lord Voldemort," he narrowed, "and how I'm looking forward to this reunion." ”
"Hmph." Voldemort sneered, "So, let's test our strength, on one side is Voldemort, the heir to Salazar Slytherin, and on the other side is the Potter brothers, with a vengeful heart and the best weapon Dumbledore can give him." ”
Voldemort looked at Sauron cautiously, took a few steps back, and looked up at the face of the Slytherin stone statue that was high in the darkness. He opened his mouth and hissed - but Harry understood what he was saying.
"Speak to me, Slytherin, the greatest of the Hogwarts Four."
Harry quickly turned around and looked up at the statue, Fawkes shook his shoulder, he just wanted to remind Sauron. But he heard Sauron's haughty and cold voice, "It doesn't make sense, Voldemort, what qualifications do you have to resist in my hands at the age of sixteen." ”
Slytherin's massive stone face moved. Harry was horrified to see its mouth open and widen, eventually forming a huge black hole.
Something moves in the statue's mouth. Something slid up from the depths of the statue.
"Get out of here with Ginny, Harry." Sauron said calmly, and with a wave of his wand, Ginny floated softly towards Harry.
Harry nodded, pulling the floating Ginny back, his eyes closed tightly, and he felt a behemoth slam down on the stone floor, and the chamber trembled. Harry knew what was going on, he could feel it, he could almost see the serpent unfolding its coiled body from Slytherin's mouth. Then he heard Riddle's hissing voice: "Kill them." ”
The gigantic basilisk, green and glowing with the characteristic glow of a venomous snake, has a body as thick as the trunk of an oak tree. The cold yellow eyes flickered with a cold light, and they snaked again.
"Hmph." Sauron was disdainful, and had no intention of avoiding the basilisk's gaze. Under Voldemort's astonished gaze, Sauron observed the basilisk indifferently, and when he looked back at Voldemort, Voldemort saw Sauron's golden eyes, which were as cold as knives.
With a screech, Fabertol flew towards the basilisk, and as he skimmed over the basilisk's head, his claws swept through it, but he lifted off a large piece of the basilisk's flesh, almost exposing the bones, and Fawkes flew over and pecked viciously into the basilisk's skull with his long saber-sharp beak. In fact, contrary to the Phoenix's ornate appearance, the Phoenix's attack was extremely bloody and brutal. The black blood of the basilisk splashed on the ground, like a shower, and the tail of the basilisk swayed wildly, blindly trying to devour the phoenix in the air, but it was nimblely flashed.
Voldemort pursed his lips, "Looks like the basilisk can't help much," he said absently, he looked at Sauron, staring at his golden eyes without shying away, and the pupils in his own red glowing eyes also contracted slightly, becoming a little narrow, "We really look alike." ”
"I'm stronger than you are," Sauron said nonchalantly, "and you have no chance of winning." ”
"I admit it." Voldemort was calm, "but I still have to fight," he said with ease, "killing the weak, and then dying at the hands of the stronger, perhaps, in a real battle that belongs to the strong, is what I want." ”
The two were silent, and the next moment, Sauron and Voldemort waved their wands above their heads at the same time, pointing at each other, and the tips of the wands flashed with lightning slashed through the air, making a sound like thunder, and then, the red and green spells slammed together between the two, erupting into a terrifying wave of magic that shook the entire chamber to the ground.
The two men continued to cast spells on each other, and at the same time did not shy away from the spells that were fired, Sauron's body ignited black flames, annihilating all the spells launched by Voldemort, and similarly, Voldemort's was surrounded by a thin layer of green flames, and occasionally a few spells passed through the barrier of magic flames, and they would be scattered by Voldemort's wave of his hand. The two of them were venting their power to the fullest, and the overflowing power of the spell turned the ground around them into fine sand.
Harry dragged Ginny through the hallway he had come, worried that Sauron was his only relative, and that he was fighting a dangerous and ugly serpent and Voldemort, but he knew that he might not be able to help himself if he returned.
Soon, Harry could hear the sound of moving stones, it was Ron, he was trying his best to move the stones on the other side of the collapsed stone pile, and now there was a gap in the edge of the stone pile, and when he heard footsteps, Ron nervously asked, "Harry, is that you Harry?!" ”
"It's me." Harry tried to calm his tone and brought his face to the slit, "Ginny is with me. ”
"Ginny! How is she? Ron said nervously, "Is she okay?" ”
"She fainted." Harry hastened to say, "I'll bring her out, the basilisk is in the Chamber of Secrets, and Voldemort." ”
"What?!" Ron gasped and said in horror, "Are they chasing you?" At the same time, he moved the stones even harder, eager to dig a hole in the pile of stones at once, "Harry, move the stones, let's get out of here." ”
"They didn't chase them, Sauron was inside, and he was fighting Voldemort." Harry was nervous, he gritted his teeth, and said firmly, "I'm going back, you move the stones." ”
"Are you crazy?" Ron exclaimed, "Are you going to die?" ”
Harry froze, he couldn't deny the fear in his heart, for the basilisk, and even more so for Voldemort, he could clearly feel his body trembling with fear and nervousness, but he knew that he couldn't leave his brother alone to face the enemy, otherwise he would never forgive himself. He couldn't help but clench his hand, only to realize that he still had the worn Sorting Hat in his hand. Harry really didn't understand what Fawkes had brought this hat to himself, and what was the use of it in the face of Voldemort and the basilisk? Harry closed his eyes tightly, for a long time, he opened them, suppressed the fear in his heart, and walked resolutely in the direction of the secret room, when he took the first step, he suddenly felt the hat in his hand become heavy, he was stunned for a moment, looking at the hat in his hand, as if there was something wrapped in it. He reached into his hat and felt for a long, hard thing underneath it—a gleaming silver sword with a dazzling egg-sized ruby on the hilt.
Harry looked at the sword in his hand in surprise, then he looked up and ran quickly in the direction of the chamber.
The Chamber of Secrets was a mess, full of broken stones, and Sauron and Voldemort were still fighting, but it was evident that young Voldemort seemed to be struggling, and the green flames around him were already thin, which forced him to turn into black smoke from time to time and flash elsewhere to dodge Sauron's spells.
"Avada suo!" Voldemort flashed behind Sauron, unleashed a death curse with a swift speed, and then shouted "Armor!" ”
Sauron unleashed a bright golden spell that sent ripples across Voldemort's talisman and shot at the Slytherin statue, blasting Slytherin's old face into a deep pit, leaving only the entrance to the basilisk to enter.
Sauron frowned, looking at Voldemort in Wolf Bèi, he could feel that Voldemort's power was weakening, not the life force, but the power of the soul. He couldn't help but sneer, "You can't win, Voldemort." ”
"I know." Surprisingly free.
"Well, let's put an end to this farce." Sauron opened his arms, the air in the entire chamber vibrate, Voldemort looked cautiously at Sauron, and tentatively issued a death curse, but the green light just flew out of the wand and quickly dissipated into the air. Voldemort's pupils shrank sharply, and he just wanted to flicker away, but found that the entire space was filled with chaotic and tyrannical magic fluctuations, obviously, Sauron wanted to use absolute strength to achieve victory, after all, the sixteen-year-old Voldemort had just ignited the fire of the origin, plus it was not the body of the soul, and he couldn't resist at all.
In the void, black chains suddenly appeared, and mysterious runes accompanied by black flames surrounded these chains, one end of the chains extended into the void, while the other end was buried in Sauron's body.
Black flames rose from the ground beneath Voldemort's feet, enveloping him.
"This is my respect for you." Sauron said coldly, "Dissipate into the world completely!" ”
The basilisk seemed to sense Voldemort's crisis, and rushed over frantically, not caring about the attack of the two phoenixes on it, now the basilisk can hardly see the brilliance at the beginning, the whole body is blurred by the flesh torn by the two phoenixes, both eyes are blind, half of the flesh and skin of the head is gone, revealing white bones, it roars, smelling the smell of Sauron and rushes over.
"Get out of here!" Sauron waved his wand at it, and the giant basilisk flew out and smashed against the wall.
Surrounded by black flames, Voldemort found that there was no way out, but instead smiled freely, and he looked at Sauron - at this time, Sauron seemed to have no emotion, like an eternal flame, and became one with this vast world. Voldemort closed his eyes, and the next moment, Voldemort vanished, turned into a bright green flame, rushed through the black flames, and shot at Sauron—since the ending was the same, why not die in glory.
Sauron's eyes narrowed sharply, his left hand flicked forward, and the next moment a dazzling light illuminated the entire chamber, and then returned to darkness.
Sauron stood there, the black chains gone, the raging black flames gone, and only a thin layer of robes was draped around Sauron. Sauron's left arm vanished, and a large chunk of his shoulder was missing, and red blood dripped down and rose into clusters of black flames in midair.
"It's better to burn your soul than to give it a go." Sauron narrowed his eyes, "It's Voldemort." He looked down at the empty left half of his body, but he only frowned, pressed his wand against his left shoulder, and then, visible to the naked eye, wisps of black flames swirled and condensed, turning into white bones, growing from his left shoulder until his fingertips grew. Sauron raised his left arm, and the black flames as faint as smoke attached to the white bones, which looked particularly strange. The red blood was like a bunch of vines, winding up along the white bones, turning into flesh.
Sauron turned his head slightly when he heard footsteps, his black robes repaired as before, covering his arms, which were still exposed with bones and flesh.
Harry hurried in, sword gripping tightly in his hand. When he saw Sauron, he hurriedly ran over.
"Are you alright?" Harry asked eagerly.
Sauron shook his head, "It's all over, the basilisk is dead, and Voldemort—is dead." ”
Harry couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. He looked at the wall, where the gigantic corpse of the basilisk lay motionless. Fawkes sensed Harry, flapping his wings and flying happily and landed on his shoulder, while Fabertol landed on the basilisk's neck, pecking at the flesh, where a large piece of snake flesh was missing, apparently not just by Dark Phoenix herself.
Sauron glanced at the Dark Phoenix and ignored it. He looked around, and with a wave of his hand, Harry's wand and a journal flew over and landed in his hand—Tom Riddle's diary, intact, but Sauron could feel that only Voldemort's soul was no longer in it, and now, it was just an ordinary journal. And Tom Riddle, the sixteen-year-old Voldemort, has turned into that dazzling green flame and is forever gone.
"Let's go," Sauron handed Harry his wand and patted him on the shoulder, "I think Ginny should be awake." ”
Harry nodded, and the two of them left the chamber the way they came. After a while, they reached the stone pile that separated the passage, and by now, Ron had moved a large chunk of the stone pile. Seeing Harry and Sauron, he excitedly said, "I'm so glad to see you again, you're all right." ”
Harry nodded, happily saying "It's all over, the basilisk is dead, and Voldemort is finished." ”
Sauron looked at the stone and said, "Ron, Harry, stand back. He pointed his wand at the pile of stones, and under the astonished gaze of Harry and Ron, the stones shattered quickly and then turned into fine sand and spread all over the ground. Ron walked over and saw Ginny lying on the ground, and walked over eagerly. "Are you alright, Ginny. Wake up, Ginny, don't scare me. ”
Ginny's breathing was even, but somewhat faint. Sauron sighed, Voldemort also destroyed some of Ginny's life force when he burned his soul, which made her very weak at this time, and it may take a while to recuperate.
Sauron walked up to her, pointed his wand at her, and whispered, "Rise quickly." ”
Ginny's face turned rosy, and she slowly opened her eyes to see Ron and Harry with anxious faces, as well as Sauron standing aside. She snorted, gasped, and tears flowed down her cheeks. "Brother, Harry-oh-oh-at breakfast, I-I wanted to tell you, but in Percy's presence, I didn't-can't. I did it, Harry—but I- I swear I- I didn't mean to, it was Riddle who forced me, he- he accused me. You- how did you kill that- that guy? Riddle is in—where? I—all I remember was him coming out of the diary—" "It's all right now," Harry said, showing Ginny the journal, "Riddle is finished." See! Sauron killed both him and the basilisk. Let's go, Ginny, let's get out of here-"
"I'm going to be fired!" As Harry and Ron helped her to her feet, Ginny cried and said, "I've been looking forward to coming to Hogwarts since Be-Bill came, and now that I have to leave, what will happen to my parents?"
"Alright, it's all over." Ron comfortingly patted Ginny on the back, but Ginny kept sobbing, and Ron didn't understand Ginny's staccato words, only knew that she was frightened.
Fawkes hovered in the tunnel, his golden-red glow standing out in the dark tunnel.
"What's the matter with that big bird?" Ron asked curiously.
"It's Dumbledore's." Harry said, thinking about how to help Ginny hide her from opening the secret room.
"How did you have a sword?" Ron asked in surprise as he stared at the gleaming silver weapon in Harry's hand.
"I'll explain it to you slowly after we get out of here. By the way, what about Lockhart?"
"There," Ron said, grinning, and cocking his head over the tunnel to the water pipe, "he's in a terrible condition. Let's go check it out. ”
Fawkes' broad, bright red wings radiated a soft golden glow in the darkness. They followed it all the way back to the entrance to the water pipe. Gilderoy Lockhart sat there, humming a little tune to himself.
"His memory is gone," Ron said, "and the Oblivion Charm fires backwards, not hitting us, but hitting himself. He doesn't remember who he is, where he is, and he doesn't know us anymore. I told him to come up here and wait. It's not safe for him to stay there. ”
Loha looked up at them amiably.
"Hello," he said, "this place is strange, isn't it?" Do you live here?"
"It's not." Ron said, raising an eyebrow at Harry.
Harry bent down and looked up through the long, black water pipe.
"Have you ever wondered how we can go back down the pipe?" Harry said to Ron.
Ron shook his head, and then Harry and Ron looked at Sauron together.
"It's not hard." Sauron said lightly, pointing at Fawkes, "It's a phoenix, you have to catch one by one." Ginny, you grab Ron's hand. Professor Lockhart - That way, it can fly you up. ”
"But with so many people, can it move? I mean, it's just a bird. Ron said uncertainly.
Sauron smiled a little weirdly, "Of course, if you don't want it to fly with you, I can too." ”
Ron looked at Fawkes, then at Sauron, who was smiling weirdly, and shrunk his neck, deciding to let the phoenix take him flying.
"I'll fly up with this guy." Sauron glanced at Lockhart in the corner and walked over.
Harry tucked his sword and sorting hat into his belt, Ron grabbed the back of Harry's robe, grabbed Ginny with his other hand, and Harry reached for the surprisingly hot feather on Fawkes's tail. A strange sense of relief quickly swept over his body, and then, with a snort, they all flew up the pipe. The cold air currents were blowing through Harry's hair. While he was still enjoying the flight, the journey came to an end when the four landed on the wet floor of the weeping myrtle's bathroom, and the pool that covered the water pipes slid to its original place.
"Where's Sauron?" Harry asked, "They haven't come up yet......
Suddenly, a black flame appeared, and Sauron appeared beside them, and poor Lockhart fell to his knees as soon as his foot touched the ground, retching incessantly.
Myrtle stared at them with wide eyes. "You're alive." She said to Harry in disappointment.
"There's no need to speak in such a disappointed tone." Harry said with a grimace as he wiped the blood and slime off the spectacle lenses. "Oh, that's right...... I've been thinking about it, if you die, you're welcome to share this flush toilet with me. Myrtle said, so shy that her face turned silvery white.
"Haha!" As they left the bathroom and walked out into the empty hallway, Ron said, "Harry! I think Myrtle has a crush on you! Ginny, you've got a competitor!"
Still, tears rolled down Ginny's cheeks silently like pearls with broken threads.
"Where do we go now?" Ron asked with an anxious look at Ginny.
Sauron pointed ahead, and Fawkes led the way, glittering golden light down the hallway. "Just follow it, I still have something to do, I have to leave first." With that, he strode away, leaving Lockhart languid and crouching on the ground. Ron and Harry looked at each other, then quickly followed Fawkes, and a moment later found themselves standing outside Professor McGonagall's office. Harry knocked on the door, then pushed it open.
