242 The Last Battle(1)
Edward VI personally visited the Desic barracks, bringing not only the last supplies to the front in Desik, but also the will of the emperor to the officers, nobles and soldiers on the front.
Shortly after the arrival of Edward VI, led by the Steppenwolf Cavalry, the Desic launched an all-out assault on the defenders of the San Jose Line. The attack was marked as the "Last Battle" in the plan of the De Rec headquarters, alluding to the final battle against San Jose, through which the resistance of the San Jose people would be completely destroyed, their will to fight would be shattered, and the ultimate goal of Emperor Edward VI of De Sick would be achieved.
Therefore, when Viscount Slim saw the overwhelming Desik wolf cavalry rushing on the opposite side, he encouraged the Guards cavalry to resist, and at the same time, he still sent back the news of the Desik all-out attack.
In the absence of Count Mosic, the supreme commander of the front was General Montgomery, the leading general in San Jose, who was first taken aback by the frenzied rush of heralds in the morning. He had thought it was another quiet morning because it was foggy, but when the anxious, sweaty heralds rushed in, he knew something was wrong.
Indeed, these heralds were the heralds of almost every line of San Jose's defense, and according to the distance of the position, these heralds successively sent the news of the Desik man's attack to the front command.
"Are the Deciks crazy?" was General Montgomery's initial feeling, but he soon noticed something out of the ordinary.
According to the news sent back by the heralds from all over the country, the attack surface of the Desik covers almost all the intertwined fronts. Frontal assault was the Steppenwolf Riders, elite and ferocious cavalry, wielding shining scimitars, swooping out of the mist. The eastern and western defense lines were threatened by the Desik Rangers.
Due to the presence of the fog, the San Jose soldiers in some positions did not dare to go forward to investigate, and the fog also covered the charging Desik vanguard, and no arrow would fall on their heads without being able to see clearly. With such a swagger, the wolf rode through the most dangerous part of the charge. Although the low horn of "Woo Woo Woo" sounded not far ahead, none of the officers on the San Jose defense line dared to give orders, so they could only send the heralds back to the headquarters to ask for orders.
The only exception, of course, is Viscount Slim and his men. The Guardsmen, led by the brave Viscount Slim, bravely pounced on the Steppenwolf riders in front of them. Their fine knightly armor gave them the courage to charge, and the lessons learned during the battles during these days were that each of the Guards cavalry was covered with a piece of armor in front of their eyes, which not only gave them frontal protection, but also prevented all the horses from being frightened by the Steppenwolf in front of them.
Of course, out of sight, the horses' ears were also blocked by cotton balls. Horses that have lost their hearing will not be afraid of the low roar of Steppenwolf. Viscount Slim raised the mace in his hand with a resolute look in his eyes, and the spurs in the heels of his legs stabbed his mount hard. The sore mount raised its four hooves and rushed forward.
The cavalry guards did not dare to lag behind when they saw that their commander had already set out. Although there were only more than a thousand people, these guards cavalry rushed out of the momentum of five thousand people, but on the opposite side was Steppenwolf, a Steppenwolf who would not be intimidated by a mere cavalry charge.
If he could give Viscount Slim another choice, he would never choose to attack the Steppenwolf Rider's defense head-on, and similarly, if the opposite Wolfrider had already rushed over, he would choose to stay out of the attack. There is no way, those huge beasts that are two degrees high and five degrees long are simply not something that a thousand guards cavalry can stop.
However, if you don't get on, you have to go, and the keen sense of the battlefield tells Slim that these Steppenwolf Riders are not simple raids, and those muffled horns in the sky are the declaration of war for the Desik's all-out charge.
The San Jose army in the big camp was not prepared, and their more than 1,000 San Jose most elite troops had to go up, no matter what the consequences would be.
Steppenwolf had just rushed past a small group of Guards Cavalry Pathfinders. With little to no resistance, the Guards cavalry was torn to pieces by the bloodthirsty Steppenwolf Riders. On the scimitar ridden by Steppenwolf in the front row, blood was dripping, and some Steppenwolf even had bitten flesh and broken armor in their mouths.
Bypassing the few survivors who had fled ahead, Viscount Slim rushed into the depths of the fog first. As the shadows in the distance intensified, until the sound of Steppenwolf's whimper could be heard in his ears, a scimitar, cutting through the fog and slashing at Viscount Slim's head with lightning speed.
Slim's face froze, and then he turned sideways, and the whole person slipped off the saddle. The scimitar slashed into the air, only passing through the horse's tail, and several ponytail whiskers floated up. The other party didn't stop, and by this time Viscount Slim had already seen that it was indeed a heavily armed Steppenwolf rider.
With a slight force in the abdomen, Viscount Slim flipped into the saddle, and with a flick of the mace, the heads of the Steppenwolf riders in the second row were smashed to pieces. Steppenwolf couldn't let out a single scream under the hammer of Viscount Slim, his front legs fell to his knees, and the Desik cavalry on his horse also rolled to the ground.
However, the Guards cavalry behind Viscount Slim were not so lucky. After the Steppenwolf riders in the first row charged Viscount Slim, the Desik scimitar in his hand slashed straight at the San Jose cavalry behind. Blood was spilled all the time, and the cavalry of the first platoon was almost unprepared, and the wolf cavalry rushed into the San Jose army without hindrance.
Viscount Slim didn't dare to look back at all, once the cavalry charge rushed up, there was no chance to turn back at all. His heavy armor and wolf-toothed hammer were almost as powerful as a bamboo, and no wolf rider could be a united enemy under his hands. The San Jose cavalry in the back row was killed by the wolf cavalry, which aroused the blood of more cavalry, and they pounced on the wolf cavalry beside them desperately, and only the knightly armor of Viscount Slim in front of them was in their eyes.
The two sides did not give in to each other, and the speed of the wolf cavalry charge was slowed down a little, and Viscount Slim bought a lot of time for the San Jose soldiers in the large battalion.
But the rest of the San Jose camp, without the Guards cavalry to buy them time, the line of six San José infantry regiments on the eastern side of the line, consisting mainly of the Northern Border Guards, their line was breached almost immediately. The Desiks rushed into battle like they had been beaten like chickens. The fog made it impossible for the San Jose archers to take advantage of them, and the Desik soldiers attacked their positions with almost no losses.
The Northern Border Guards dealt with Desik soldiers all year round, and they were not afraid. The bravest soldiers immediately stepped up and stabbed at all the living creatures in the position with their short swords, steel knives, and spears. Regardless of whether you stab it or not, taking it back is the next sword, the next sword, and the next spear. However, there were too many Desiks rushing up, and the brave San Jose soldiers found that the enemy was killing more and more, and the position was getting smaller and smaller, and the corpses of their comrades and Desiks were under their feet, and blood soaked every inch of the ground under their feet.
I don't know whose weapon it is, and my own weapon has long been broken, so many people just pick up a weapon from the ground and continue to fight.
The position held by the six infantry regiments was about a mile wide, and the first to be breached in the center, where the defenders had suffered considerable losses in the previous phase of the battle, and the missing men had not been replenished, and they had been hit with the greatest force when they were undermantled, and gradually their lines were withdrawn backwards, while exposing the flanks to the Desiks on the left and right.
The San Jose soldiers on the battlefield couldn't be blamed, the attack launched in the early morning on a foggy day made them unable to react at all. Many soldiers got up in a hurry, picked up weapons and armor and rushed to the front before they had time to put them on. Without the bonus of the San Jose Great Phalanx, the individual combat effectiveness of these soldiers is still very far behind that of the Desiks.
The front line was in chaos, and so was General Montgomery's command. The heralds hurriedly sent urgent messages from all over the place, and it was no longer clear what the situation was. Montgomery had to send all the Guards near his headquarters to the front to find out the news, hoping to bring back the actual situation of the battle. There is no news from the Guards cavalry led by Viscount Slim at the moment, and it should be in good condition, at least, the defensive line in front of the command has not seen the Desik infested.
"General!" a Guards officer rushed in.
"Say, what's the situation?" said Montgomery hurriedly, without raising his head.
"The eastern line of defense is currently encountering the Desik Heavy Infantry Regiment, which has seen the banners of the 'Eagle Regiment' and the 'Frost Regiment'. At the moment, the front line is trying its best to resist, and the commander over there is asking for reinforcements, and their front is almost overwhelmed!"
"Well, the main heavy infantry regiments are here. Okay, they want support, they have to give support. You, with your guards, go and reinforce them at once, and be sure to stop the Desiks!"
The Guards officer hurriedly saluted, "Yes!" Turned around and went to hurry his army.
"General Montgomery!" another officer burst into the house. "Speak!"
"On the west flank, the main attack was the Desik rangers, who probably numbered more than five thousand men, and pounced directly from the fog, and the three infantry regiments of the eastern defense line suffered heavy casualties. Without the help of bows and arrows, the rushing rangers, they could not stop. The officer reported.
"Which part are you!" Montgomery asked curiously.
"I'm a staff officer on the eastern side of the line, and all the officers on their side are on the front, and I've been sent back to call for reinforcements, General!" the officer saluted again.
"Okay, I'll give you three regiments of guards, bring crossbowmen. Once in the position, your crossbowmen are still somewhat useful, understand?"
Wave after wave of heralds rushed back to deliver messages, and most of the emergency defense lines needed reinforcements, and General Montgomery, who had no choice, had to send one army after another to the front.
"General, no more reinforcements can be sent. There are not many reserves in the command. A staff officer grabbed General Montgomery and whispered.
"Oh, yes, is Slim back?"
"Not yet, General!"
As he spoke, the sound of the whining horn in the distance was getting closer and closer, and it was not far from the front line of defense!
