Chapter 9: The Raid on Stratholme Prison
The orcs who had gone out to investigate returned to their makeshift camp. The young chieftain Sal had already been waiting for them in his tent. Entering was a middle-aged orc, the grayness of his black hair indicating that he was no longer young, but his burly body and swollen muscles still showed his strength.
"How's it going, Brooks?" Sal asked.
Blox, the orc who had come in, replied, "We have found out that it's indeed in the city. He was supposed to be hanged at noon today, but a human interceded for him, and now he is in prison. β
"A human interceding for him?" There was a commotion among the orcs in the tent.
Sal asked, "What kind of person is it?" β
"It's a young mage."
Thrall slowly digested the unexpected news, and then decided: "Then let's sneak into the city at night to sneak into the prison and rescue Itreig." β
His advisor, the venerable old shaman Drektar, frowned and said, "I don't know why, I have a sense of foreboding. β
"Did the elemental spirits tell you anything?"
"No, it's just a hunch." The blind Drake Tarl paused, "When people get old, they become less courageous. β
At this time, the old shaman was very nostalgic for his time in his hometown of Draenor. At that time, the ancestral spirits guided them, and unlike now, he was completely unable to know where the premonition came from.
However, Drektar persuaded him, "Chief, you can't take part in this operation yourself. You are the hope of the orcs and cannot take risks. β
"Butβ" Thrall had just said when he was interrupted by Brooks, who was reporting the news.
"The old shaman was right. I'm familiar with the situation, so let me take someone with me this time! β
Sal looked at them and gave up on the idea of going.
"Well, you pick the best warriors to go, and you must return safely."
"Don't worry, my chief," Brooks said, "I'll cut off the heads of anyone who dares to stand in my way with my great axe!" β
After making a detailed plan, as night fell, Blox, with twelve orc warriors, quietly infiltrated Stratholme under the cover of darkness.
Thanks to detailed reconnaissance and caution, they managed to avoid all the sentry posts along the way. During the day, Blox saw a knightly order stationed at Stratholme departing from here, and heard that it was going to Andohar to clear out the orcsβand Brox, as he watched the cavalry leave, mocked himself that the actions of the humans were completely different.
The orcs under the leadership of the new Grand Chief of the Horde, Thrall, are not as brave and resourceless as they used to be. He was secretly glad that since crossing the dark gate, the orcs had finally ushered in a new hope.
It is precisely because this knight order has taken away a large number of defense troops that the defense of this human city is much emptier than usual. Presumably, there will be no surprises in tonight's action.
The whole of Stratholme fell into a quiet slumber, and only sporadic lights remained in the darkness. The thirteen orc warriors found the prison where Stratholme was holding his prisoners. Gathering with them in the dark alley across from the prison, Brooks observed the guards around him in detail: patrolling soldiers passed by about every fifteen minutes. There were only two guards at the door, which was easy to solve.
Blox thought of the plan of action drawn up by the Great Chief and decided to follow it. So he began to arrange:
"Gasco, you take two people to set fire to the vicinity of that plaza and create chaos to attract the attention of the patrol and other guards. Try not to expose yourself. β
"All right," a young and stout orc immediately agreed, "you, you, come with me!" β
With Gasco's departure, Brooks singled out one of them: "You come with me and kill the two guards from the roof with a spear, and don't make them make any noise." Others saw us in action and followed! β
β¦β¦
When the guards were about to knock on the door of Paladin Commander Gavinrad, he had already put on his full body armor and walked out with a two-handed hammer, and asked as he straightened his armor, "What is the matter?" β
The guards replied: "Someone has set fire to a house near the square, and the city defense is searching for it." β
Gavinrad frowned. Because the commander-in-chief Da Sohan had already rushed to Andohar with some of his knights during the day, he stayed here to serve as commander for the time being.
"Did you see the arsonist?" He asked.
The guard said: "No one can see clearly, but there are witnesses who say that they are very burly, and it seems that they are ...... It's orcs. β
"Orcs?" Gavinrad remembered that Da Sohan had told him before he left that the orc chief might come to the rescue of the orc in the prison, and thinking of this, he immediately walked quickly to the stable, and shouted, "Organize the guards and residents to quickly extinguish the fire and check the arsonist, and the members of the Knights will go to the prison with me immediately!" β
With the light on him, he realized that this time he might catch a big fish!
The knights were stunned at first, but they immediately realized that it might be an orc smoke bomb - and soon the commander rushed to the prison with more than thirty horsemen - and sure enough, two innocent guards had fallen in a pool of blood. They were killed by two short spears pierced through the back of the neck, killing them with a single blow.
Gavinrad heard the shouts of killing inside, and immediately shouted angrily: "Surround here! The others rushed in with me! β
β¦β¦
Blox's annoyed gaze at the scarred old orcs in the steel cage in front of him, he could still recognize that this was the Itregg they were trying to rescue. They also fought side by side back then. But now this guy is bruised and weak, and it is hard to imagine what kind of torture he has suffered.
Itrig was older than him, and if he hadn't come, I'm afraid the old fellow wouldn't have survived this torture for a few days. He kicked away the corpse of one of the human guards he had split in half with his axe and picked up a string of keys from the ground. Try to find the one out of dozens that can open the lock in front of you.
This time the action was not so smooth - it was indeed as he had imagined at first, and they easily dealt with the two guards at the door. But there are nearly twice as many other guards in the prison as there are regular numbers!
He sacrificed the lives of three orc warriors to extinguish the resistance of the other party.
"Click", after trying half of the key, he finally opened the cell door.
"Itregg, I'm here to save you!" Brooks kicked open the cell door and strode up to pick up the old orc, who didn't even have the strength to stand up.
"You...... Are you Brooks? Itrieg began to make out the orc's face in the dim light.
"It's me!" Blox saw that Itreig's hands were shackled, the other end of the chain embedded in the solid wall. The remaining keys are obviously larger than the keyhole.
He was about to have someone find the key, when an orc who had stayed at the door to let the wind loose suddenly rushed over and said in horror: "General, human reinforcements are here!" β
Brooks hurriedly asked, "How many are there?" β
"At least thirty cavalry!"
Brooks's heart sank, with such a quick reinforcement, the other party didn't seem to be attracted to the fire at all. He realized that this time the mission was dangerous. Remembering the old shaman's counsel, Drektar, he felt glad that the Great Chief had been dissuaded.
"Leave me alone, let's go!" Itreig's voice rang in his ears, "I'm no longer good, you don't have to save me, the dying man." Hurry up and escape, if you can go, one counts as one. β
"No, I'm not afraid of the dead! I accepted the mission, and I will complete it even if I die! Don't talk about it, Itreig, I'll get you out! Brooks roared wildly, raising his axe and slashing at the stout chains. The furious force severed the light chain, but a large gap was also made in the originally sharp blade.
"You, Itreig on your back! Others, follow me to the front! Bloxs pointed at a young orc, and yelled at him and Itregg, "You won't be hurt in the slightest until the rest of us die!" β
"Follow me! Kill the one who stands in our way! β
"Roar! Roar! Roar! β
The orc warriors burst out with unimaginable power in a desperate situation. They all know that in this closed prison, they have only one way to rush out and kill, and this road is destined to be paved with blood!
Under the leadership of Brooks, inspired by courage, and supported by the survival **, they killed the members of the Order who had rushed into the prison. Then the two sides fought at the gate. Brooks and Gavin Rad battled together, while several other orc soldiers were besieged by human knights who outnumbered them several times as much.
Tears welled up in the eyes of the young orc, who was both moved by the rescue of his kindred and hated his own incompetence, and became a shameful burden.
Seeing the orc warriors who protected him fall one by one, he couldn't help but blame himself for thinking that maybe if he died in prison, these orc warriors would have sacrificed less!
Seeing this qiΔ, Brocks, who also saw this, let out a furious battle cry after forcing back the human knights who were dueling him, and charged at the man who was clearly the leader of the human knights in a burst of runs. He knew that if he didn't kill this human right away, he and all the orcs would die here.
Brooks was not afraid of death, but believed that dying on the battlefield was the highest honor for a warrior. But he was afraid of failure, afraid of not being able to complete the tasks of the Great Chief.
Gavin Rad saw the orcs rushing towards him with an indomitable momentum, and he knew that this would be the time for a life-and-death showdown. He didn't hesitate, swung the dazzling hammer vigorously, burst out with his strongest strength, and swung towards the orc.
His years of combat experience told him that if neither the other nor he stopped, his warhammer would shatter the opponent's chest, and the orc's axe would split him in half from his left shoulder.
But at this moment, he couldn't back down. To retreat is to fail, let alone in front of an orc!
