Chapter 37: The Sunset
"Di, Di" bursts of regular mechanical rhythmic sounds came into Mo Xiaoli's ears, her eyelashes moved, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Mo Xiaoli turned her head, and her spirit was still a little trance. She found herself lying in a hospital bed with patches attached to her head, body and wrists for medical tests. The instrument next to the bedside showed her body values, and a green point of light rose and fell regularly with her heartbeat.
"What's wrong with me? Hospital, is everything that happened before a dream? Mo Xiaoli closed her eyes and put her hand on her forehead.
Suddenly, a nauseous feeling hit, Mo Xiaoli instinctively turned to the side, and spit out a large cloud of yellow liquid with a "wow", and there was still a little bloodshot on it if you looked closely.
"Cough, cough" Mo Xiaoli coughed violently, and then the door of the room opened, and a middle-aged man wearing a white coat and a shirt walked in. The man was of medium to thin build, with half-length hair that was smeared with hair oil and combed back. With a pair of tiny glasses on his sockets, he looked a little sven, but the thick stubble was untouched, which made him look a little scruffy.
"Are you awake?" The man put down the medical record folder in his hand and walked quickly to Mo Xiaoli's side.
"I... Where am I? Mo Xiaoli opened her mouth and found that she was very thirsty.
"Aren't you thirsty?" The man put the pillow on the hospital bed upright and helped Mo Xiaoli leaning over.
"Hmm," Mo Xiaoli nodded.
The man turned around and took a bottle of mineral water from the cabinet next to him and handed it over.
Mo Xiaoli unscrewed the cap of the bottle and poured water into her throat, but the more she drank, the more thirsty she felt, and her stomach seemed to be burning with flames. After drinking three bottles of water in a row, she felt a little more comfortable in her throat.
"It's normal to be thirsty, you've just woken up from a long hibernation." The man paused, squeezing out a smile on his stubble-covered face, "Welcome back to the apocalyptic world, this is my garden, and it is also the closest place to Yaoguang City." I'm the lead researcher of Project Firefly Kuroshio, you can call me a doctor. ”
Garden? Kuroshio?
Mo Xiaoli was confused, but she was still a little familiar with the words Firefly Project.
"Are you also a member of the Firefly Squad?" Mo Xiaoli asked at the only familiar word.
"No, we belong to the Kuroshio and pursue a more thorough human evolution than Firefly." The doctor shook his head, and changed his peaceful face from just now, revealing a hideous expression.
Mo Xiaoli's body trembled subconsciously, and the expression on the doctor's face returned to calm.
"I... What about my friends? Mo Xiaoli began to feel scared, her hands groping around the bed, trying to find something to defend herself.
"Friends? No, you don't belong to them, you belong to the end times created by Kuroshio, you are the end of perfect human evolution. The doctor lifted his glasses and smiled sickly.
"Soon, soon you'll understand, you're awake, let's move on to the next step." The doctor lifted the lab coat and removed a syringe from it, which was filled with a clear liquid.
"What are you going to do?" Mo Xiaoli ripped off the sticky patches on her body and ran towards the door.
"Don't worry, it won't hurt you." The doctor stepped forward, grabbed Mo Xiaoli's arm, and injected the liquid in the needle into her body.
"No, don't, don't ......" Mo Xiaoli quickly fell into a deep sleep.
The doctor picked up Mo Xiaoli and put her back on the hospital bed.
"Our queen is about to wake up." The doctor looked at Mo Xiaoli on the hospital bed and smiled stupidly, and then he took out a blue injection from his coat pocket.
Under the light, the blue potion glowed with a strange light, and the doctor held it in his hand and played with it carefully, as if admiring a beautiful work of art.
"All it takes is this needle, this needle of pure beast blood, and all your power will be awakened. Wake up, the end of human evolution, and the queen of the beasts. The doctor muttered a little frantically and injected the blue potion into Mo Xiaoli's body.
"Step, step" Mo Xiaoli heard the echo of herself running in her ears, she felt that she was in a pitch black, she kept running, there was no direction.
Suddenly, a white-painted wooden door appeared in front of her, and she pushed it open and entered a dimly lit corridor. She continued to run forward, and at the end of the corridor appeared an identical white-lacquered wooden door.
Pushing the door to enter again, it was the same corridor again, and in this way, Mo Xiaoli fell into a cycle of repeatedness.
Passing through doors and running through corridors, Mo Xiaoli seemed to have fallen into an endless abyss.
I don't know how many doors I passed through, and a different scene finally appeared in front of Mo Xiaoli's eyes.
This time behind the white-lacquered wooden door was an empty room, and in the middle of the room was a red chair, on which sat a woman with her hair scattered, and the woman sat with her head down, unable to see her face clearly. She can only be judged from her occasionally undulating body.
Mo Xiaoli walked cautiously in front of the woman, she gently held the woman's shoulder, trying to see her appearance clearly.
Suddenly, the woman's hands clamped Mo Xiaoli's arm violently, and her slender nails sank deep into her flesh.
"Hey, hey, the beast blood is about to wake up." The woman giggled, and the oozing voice made Mo Xiaoli's hair stand on end.
The woman slowly raised her head, it was a mutated beast face, her pupils were amber, her nose twitched, and she was grinning at Mo Xiaoli.
Mo Xiaoli's eyes were wide open, and her pupils were extremely constricted by fear. She could see the beast's face clearly, although its appearance had changed slightly, it was clearly her own face!
"Ahh Mo Xiaoli opened her eyes and woke up from the nightmare, her back and forehead covered with cold sweat from fright. She looked around, and she was still lying on the same hospital bed she had been in.
Mo Xiaoli struggled to get up and rushed to the bathroom quickly, she wanted to see if her face had mutated like in the nightmare.
In the mirror, Mo Xiaoli carefully looked at her face, although it was a little white, but fortunately, it did not change. She let out a sigh of relief, turned on the faucet and washed her face.
Mo Xiaoli came to the window, she pulled up the curtains, and what caught her eye was a beautiful sunset.
The scenery outside the window is somewhat idyllic, with lush grass and trees in the distance. Nearby, there is a small garden with colorful flowers.
A man in a shirt is sitting downstairs at a log table with a thick book in his hand and a steaming cup of coffee on the wooden table next to him. It's very leisurely.
"Doctor..."Mo Xiaoli said silently, and ran downstairs quickly.
Coming out of the ward, Mo Xiaoli found that this was not a hospital, but a three-story wooden villa.
"Sit down, it's time to eat." The doctor felt that Mo Xiaoli was coming behind him, he closed the book, said gently, and returned to the gentleness and elegance when he first appeared.
Mo Xiaoli was stunned for half a second, and she couldn't tell whether she was dreaming or awake for a while.
The doctor snapped his fingers, and out of the villa came a mutant orc dressed in a butler's suit.
"Don't worry, the butler is very gentle, he won't hurt you." The doctor looked at Mo Xiaoli, who was so frightened that he couldn't help but retreat, and then raised his hand to the butler, motioning for him to put the food in his hand on the wooden table.
The butler placed a glass filled with red liquid and a plate with a silver dinner plate lid on the table, and returned to the villa.
"Come and eat, you haven't eaten in a day, you must be hungry." The doctor untied the lid of the plate, revealing a piece of raw meat dripping with blood, and the red liquid began to smell of rust.
Raw meat and blood drink, Mo Xiaoli hurriedly covered her mouth and almost didn't spit it out.
"Don't resist, follow the call of your heart, come, eat." The doctor turned his head to look at Mo Xiaoli, and a weird smile appeared on his face again.
Mo Xiaoli covered her mouth and widened her eyes in horror, but slowly, she felt saliva begin to secrete from her mouth, and her throat couldn't stop swallowing. A primal impulse was driving her closer to the flesh and blood on the table.
Finally, the desire for hunger overcame reason, Mo Xiaoli grabbed the raw meat on the table and stuffed it into his mouth, and his pupils gradually turned amber.
In the distance, the remnant sun fell in the west, reflecting the sky red, as if soaked in blood.
