Chapter 2 Curiosity and Interest
In the days leading up to winter, most of the inhabitants of King's Castle changed into warm clothes - except for a few poor people who were unclothed. Aside from a slight change in the weather, the castle doesn't seem to have changed, and the inhabitants of the castle are living as usual. For the city to change significantly, it may have to wait until winter arrives.
In the diaspora to the north, to the more remote north, Lulunaka's shop was as usual, with no customers. Pasta still sat at the counter, drinking tea and flipping through books, with no other work to do. It was early morning time, and Julius had gone out early again, leaving only him and Lulunaka in the shop. As for Lulunaka, she is not in the store now, but continues to work on her alchemy work in the backyard. There is always a constant sound coming into the store from the direction of the backyard, not only the sound of liquid stirring or bubbles bursting, but also the sound of a slight explosion. For Pasta, these sounds were only occasional in his mind as he indulged in books, but they didn't make him curious. Lulunaka's stuff is definitely not a safe thing.
After a long while, Lulunaka returned to the store from the backyard. During this season, Lulunaka also changed into new clothes: thicker, warmer clothes and cloaks. Both her clothes and her cloak are dark green tones, and if she is in the dark, she will not look very conspicuous, and in the daytime, her clothes will not attract much attention.
"Good morning, uncle. Do you have any plans for today?" Lulunaka asked Pasta.
"No, but it's a good idea to go out for a walk. "I haven't been out for a while, and I'm always sitting here, and my body feels like it's going to rust." β
"What about the boy?" Lulunaka continued, "he wakes up so early every day, and sometimes sees him back late at night. β
"Who knows, you know better than I do. "Also, do you think it's really good to let him continue to do that scavenging business like that?"
Lulunaka sat down at the counter, which was already her exclusive place. After sitting on the counter, she was still playing with a cane in her hand, "What's so bad? I can support myself by picking up the rags, and I see that he is quite happy." β
"Did you remind him that the sewers further down the rat runway, or even deeper down the sewers, are dangerous areas. Pasta turned the page of the book, "The kind of place that only the desperate will go down...... Some people would rather beg or starve to death than scavenge below. β
"I don't think it's as exaggerated as you say. Lulunaka said, "It's just a little different from the King's Castle on the ground, but it's also part of the King's Castle down there, you can't say it's because there's a ...... down there." Then the slightest danger will not be recognized as part of the King's Castle. β
"Maybe you're the only one who doesn't think it's a dangerous place to go underground. Pasta smiled wryly, "I wouldn't go down to that kind of place if I didn't have to." β
"Are you a little too timid, uncle? β
"That doesn't change my mind, and I'm not cowardly, please call it cautious. "Underground isn't as safe as it is above ground, and rat paths are as safe as a baby's cradle compared to the depths of the sewers." What if something happens to him......"
"He has eyes, hands, feet, and brains. "Eyes allow him to see clearly, hands to grip weapons and tools, feet to move around, and brains to tell what is safe and what is dangerous...... Observe, defend, escape...... He has all these abilities, and it would be a pity if there were any accidents as well. β
"Won't you feel pity?"
Lulunaka was quiet for a moment before she spoke, "Is it a pity...... If you die like this, then there is nothing to be sorry for. Olga is a sentimental old man, but my word is not so delicate. β
Pasta shook her head and said nothing more.
At this moment, Ward screamed from outside the door. The lazy dog never barked at the sight of a stranger, and when he did, it was only because he saw someone he knewβor someone that Lulunaka, the owner, knew.
It was Barrick, an old dwarf with a bit of a difference, who came in. This big businessman with his own chamber of commerce and fleet usually doesn't have so much leisure time, and even if he does, he has to entertain those nobles who have nothing to do. When Barrick enters, he sees Lulunaka sitting on the counter waving her cane. "Good morning, ma'am, you seem to be in good spirits and make my mood cheerful. β
"Good morning, Mr. Barrick. Lulunaka smiled at Barrick, then noticed what Barrick was wearing around his neck, and the smile on her face grew, "Mr. Barrick, you have good taste. Lulunaka pointed to her neck, which naturally had nothing on her neck, but Barrick had on her neck.
Barrick smiled and tugged at the chain around his neck, leaving it exposed. Strung along the chain are several gold coins, which are tightly pressed together to form a cylinder, and the chain passes through a hole drilled in the middle of the coin.
"I thought you'd spend it. Lulunaka said, "It's beautifully processed." β
"I also have some good jewelers. "There are no impurities in this gold, and it is much better than the so-called fine jewels and gold, and it is not suitable for currency, but it would be a very good choice for gifts." β
"Doesn't it feel bad?" Lulunaka pointed to her slender neck, "Doesn't it tingle?"
"I'm not greedy, so this probably can't be my noose. Barrick replied.
"When a businessman says he's not greedy, it's not a sign of aggressiveness. β
"Only moderation, prudence, and compromise can live longer, and this is what I have learned over my long time in business β and I think you know that, ma'am. After all, you've outlived me. β
Lulunaka and Barrick looked at each other and smiled, then laughed.
Pasta didn't care too much about the somewhat mysterious conversation between the two people, but listened to it in his ears, and although he didn't show it on the surface, he sighed slightly in his heart. Whether there was anything unusual about Lulunaka's gold coins or what Barrick had done with them, Pasta didn't really want to know. What kind of contact and communication the two men had in private, and whether there were some conflicts and agreements, Pasta did not want to know. But since Barrick wore the gold coins around his neck, they were probably harmlessβat least the gold coins he had disposed of. As to whether the gold coin was harmless in the first place, or whether it was also a product of Lulunaka, Pasta wondered and had no way of knowing.
After Lulunaka and Barrick finished laughing, Lulunaka continued, "Is there something going on here so early? You're a busy man, and you don't usually come to this remote place with nothing to do." If you need my help, please don't hesitate to ask. β
After gossiping for a while, he finally came to talk about the reason why he came here, and he had a rare subtle look on his face. "About this matter...... "There was neither hesitation nor embarrassment, but a more subtle expression on his face, as if "a strange thing happened to a person, but the incident did not cause that person to lose anything"...... Such an expression.
"Is there anything you can't talk about?" Lulunaka continued.
Barrick let out a breath and opened his hands to Lulunaka, "Alright, ma'am...... It's not really a big deal. There's a young, promising, powerful girl who's interested in your shopβor rather you. β
