Chapter 22: The Behemoth of the Underground
What emerged from the ground and swallowed Junia and the worm-man had a black shell and a massive body that looked like a gigantic cylinder. But the front end of the cylinder will not have mouthparts that are opening and closing and wriggling, and there will be no rows of dense teeth growing haphazardly in the mouthparts, bulging outward, and disgusting liquid splashing out.
For Jessica, the only good news for this picture is that the liquid is not red - Junia and the wormman are swallowed whole, and the big mouth can indeed swallow them easily, and they don't need to be torn apart for easy access. But that's not good news, at least for now.
Jessica didn't think she could deal with the behemoth in front of her alone. It was huge, and the shell rubbed against the surface, leaving no trace on it, and the sword probably had no effect. And it was fast, swallowing Junia and sliding on the ground, just by relying on its body, sweeping aside the ruins on the side, clearing a flat space - it was not surprising that this place would look like this if such a creature lived nearby.
The space was large enough, but Jessica couldn't see it in its entirety, only to see part of the creature's body sliding on the ground, sliding into another hole that could fit its body, and vanishing. It took a long time to burrow into the ground, and it knew that the entire black carapace body had left the space, leaving only a mess behind.
It was only a short period of time, but it had already left an indelible mark on the place - and it also left a mark on Jessica and Gendina's hearts.
"So, what is that?" Zhendina hid behind Jessica, already too nervous to speak, "That length, it doesn't look like a bug, if it is spread out, that thing might be the size of an ordinary dragon, right?" It seems that even in a panic, Zhendina did not forget to estimate the size of the monster that emerged from the ground.
"It's a big problem now, I don't want to tell anyone that the captain died in an inexplicable place, and then there is no body. Jessica rushed to the hole where the monster had left, but was intercepted halfway through. In the darkness, groups of tiny creatures were flying and flew to her side, and the anxious Jessica did not lose her alertness, and immediately stopped, raised her hand, aimed at the surroundings, and used the flame ray. This time, the flame ray was no longer the scale to control the loss of fire and mana, and the fist-thick flame ray of an adult male shot out of Jessica's hand, sweeping the space in the fan-shaped area in front of her. In the light of the fire, she could see clearly what was coming at her, it was a winged moth, but it would not grow so fat, and it would never have such sharp forelimbs. The pair of claws wrapped in carapace and dancing, no matter how you look at it, don't look like insects can grow, but more like the claws of wild beasts.
Flamerays swept through the moths, and their bodies were burned by the flames, making sizzling noises, and falling to the ground. After the swarm of moths in front of her was swept away, Jessica pinned her palms together, turned around, and burned the strange moths flying behind her to the ground. Zhendina crawled to Jessica's feet, grabbed her legnails with both hands, and looked terrified, "Wait, don't leave me!"
Jessica just watched the captain she admired being swallowed by the giant worm-like thing, and in a hurry, she almost forgot about the little girl next to her. There was no time for her to blame herself now, so she freed her hand, grabbed Zhendina by the back collar, and lifted her up, "Follow me, don't get lost!"
Leave Gendina with her, but Jessica doesn't know what to do next. She didn't think that the captain was a man who would die so easily, he was a hero that no one dared to question, and he had encountered more sinister situations, but he was devoured by monsters for a while......
Although she didn't believe that Junia would die like this, watching him disappear like this, Jessica couldn't dispel the uneasiness in her heart. Is there such a burden as Zhendina by her side, so that she can give up the pride of the knight and give up this little girl?
The moth could no longer pose a threat to her, and she held both the sword and the magic book at her waist in her hands, the book in her left hand and the sword in her right. She didn't dare to be optimistic to think that the next thing would be safe, how could there be any safety in such a place where huge monsters lurked underground.
The moth dispersed, and something came from behind her. Jessica held Zendina behind her, turned to face the incoming being, and saw the misshapen face and open mouthparts. The wormman who had been swallowed with Junia struck her in the abdomen with a staff.
Jessica's magic book opened automatically, she didn't have a wand in her hand, but there was a gem on the hilt of the rapier - no wand was needed, her gems could also be used as a catalyst for spellcasting. There are only a few spells that she is good at without a catalyst, and they are lacking in aggressiveness, so to deal with the malice in front of her, she still needs more powerful spells......
However, Jessica's quick and short chant has no effect, not even fluctuations in mana.
The stabbing staff, in the claw shape at the front end, the blue magic, was flickering faintly.
The one who couldn't cope with the crisis without magic was a mage, but Jessica was never a mage in the pure sense of the word, she was still a knight. After deciding that magic could not be used in an instant, she raised her sword and stabbed at the wormman, dodging the staff that pierced straight at her, and clamped the staff with her left arm holding the magic book, and then stabbed it in the head.
It was a perfect response, but the wormman's response was more intense than she expected - the worm let out an ear-piercing scream, and actually lifted the staff and Jessica to keep her off the ground. Jessica's ability to control the opponent's weapon was countered in this way, but before she let go, a blue light flashed on the staff, and there was lightning-like energy, which was released from the front end and spread towards Jessica's body.
When the energy touched Jessica's body, she let out a scream. She felt as if she had been hit by a lightning spell, her skin feeling like it was exploding, and her hands and feet twitched uncontrollably. To Gendina who fell to the side, Jessica felt like she had been stabbed by a spear and lifted high into the air to withstand the thunder and lightning.
The flashing time didn't last long, and Jessica quickly fell silent. Unconscious, she was thrown aside, and the insect man turned to look at Zhendina.
