Volume 4: Compromise and Struggle Chapter 24: The Wild Wolf
The fighting did not stop, but it did not begin right away. Ed and Tiji looked at each other, neither of them moving. Just now, Ed had shown his strength by showing his strength, he was able to accurately destroy Shilo's pistol with one shot, and then hit Shilo's knife with the second shot, which showed the accuracy of his marksmanship. If it was the gun in his hand, then even if the two of them were only half a room apart now, it was very likely that he would blow out Shilo's head before he rushed in front of him. It's just possible, not guaranteed.
But he didn't do it, his first and second shots were just to disarm Tilo, which in itself was sending a message to Shigiro that he didn't want to hurt her, he didn't want her life. At least not yet.
Titha received this message from Eddard. Maybe it was because she wasn't sure, maybe because of some other thought, she stopped for a moment, stopped all her movements. Then, the hand holding the clawblade in her left arm slowly straightened to the side, her eyes looking at Eddard. Eddard looked at the tithing as well, and slowly moved away from the muzzle of her gun, and the hand holding the gun reached to the side as well.
At the same moment, the two of them let go of their hands together and flew out with a kick as their respective weapons fell to the ground. At this moment, neither of them had any arms with each other, and made the most sincere "friendly" negotiation gesture in this situation. At least on the surface.
"You're not from A.R.X." Unexpectedly, Tilo took the initiative to speak one step ahead of Ed, and his slightly lowered voice sounded unexpectedly mature and good.
"Yes." Ed looked at Tiji and nodded, "I'm not. β
"You're looking for me."
"From Mr. Garrison. Actually, I haven't even eaten yet, because I'm afraid of missing out. But I think you're like me. Ed licked his lips, "If we can, maybe we can sit down and find a place to have a good drink, doctor?" β
"Who are you?" Ignoring Eddard's quips, Tilo asked dryly. Every word of hers feels like this, simple and direct, and crisp.
ββ¦β¦ A detective. Ed thought about it for a moment, but decided to settle for the tithing style and stop talking nonsense," said a private investigator. β
Seeing that this answer made Shilo a little confused, she was silent for a while, and her long, cold, sharp eyes were fixed on Ed's body all the time, as if trying to see something. But in the end she didn't see anything.
Finally, she spoke again. "Why is a private investigator looking for me?"
"Because of a commission."
"What a commission."
"An unknown commission." Ed said, holding the back of his left hand in front of him with his right hand, trying to make himself look gentlemanly, "Yesterday morning, an unsigned letter of attorney was delivered to my office along with cash, and it had nothing on it, except for an address - Bakitardon XVI. 2,174 Main Street. β
ββ¦β¦β
"Familiar with this address, doctor." Ed looked at the faint flickering gaze in Shilo's eyes and smiled without any surprise at all, "I think you may be familiar with the people who live there. β
"I took care of the man and woman of that house." Tia said, his voice emotionless, as if it had come from the throat of a she-wolf, but the eyes that looked at Ed were a little strange.
"Now they're dead." Ed said, "I followed the commissioned guide to that place and saw their bodies. I also met the guy who was knocked unconscious by you and tied into a silkworm chrysalis with a bandage and stuffed inside the cupboard. I think you're a little too heavy, he's not the kind of character you need to smash a table in the face. β
"What exactly do you want?"
"Three things." Ed held out three fingers to Shilo, "Whoever sent me this commission, he is undoubtedly pointing to the things that happened in that broken house. And I've already received the money and have entrusted this to me, so I'll do my job well. I wanted to find out what had happened in that house the night before. I wanted to know how the couple diedβthe most I hear now seems to be that they were drugged and attacked each other and killed, but I don't believe muchβI wanted to know what the A.R.X had to do with that, and what the connection was to the couple and the damn Alphabhoda gold coin. And most importantly - I'm going to find that missing child. β
ββ¦β¦β
"Her name is Susan, right? You know her. Of course you know her. Ed looked at Tilo, "I was told you took her." β
"Let me guess - the old woman who likes to hide in her old house and peek out?" The corners of Tilo's mouth moved mockingly.
"Did you notice her?"
"When she's looking at me, I'm certainly looking at her. She's a very boring person, so boring that it's annoying. But that's not a reason for me to pay too much attention to her. β
"But she did see it, and it was you, right?" Ed stared at Tithe, "You took that girl, you took Susan." β
"Susan," Shilo paused, his gaze lowering slightly, "indeed with me. β
"I want you to give her to me." Ed said.
"Impossible." Without any hesitation, Tiji shook his head categorically.
"Don't say it so absolutely, doctor." Ed frowned and looked at Shiro, "Listen to me - I don't know why you took Susan and Susan will follow you, but anyway, the current situation is that her parents are dead and she has become an orphan." You give her to me, and I can get help from a friend in the city bureau to send her to her relative's place, or some other facility that specializes in children like her. She is now fifteen years old, and in a little while she will be able to become an adult and be self-reliant, and she does not need to worry too much. But I can't keep her with a killer. No matter how you look at it, you're not the kind of person who can take care of children, even if you think you are. β
ββ¦β¦β
Tithes were silent. Ed's words are no less sharp than she is when he doesn't say witty words, it's simple and straightforward, and it's straightforward. He made everything clear to the tithe, did not beat around the bush, did not talk about Silas, but just poured out everything he had been thinking about in front of her, expressed his attitude and meaning, and then left the choice to the other party.
Then, Tithro chose the option that disappointed Ed.
"I can't give Susan to you." She said directly, watching Ed's gaze become as cold as a blade again, "And, detectiveβI advise you to stop as soon as possible now, and leave before it's too late, before you fall too deep." You don't know exactly what you're facing. β
"You know what?" The corners of Ed's mouth twitched, "Do you know what you're facing?" β
"I have my own way."
"I have mine too." Ed said, looking at each other without flashing back, "You don't have to worry about me, it's better to worry a little more about yourself." I'm sorry, it's not my style at all, but if you don't give Susan back...... It may not be so easy to leave today. β
ββ¦β¦ Are you going to stop me, detective? Shilo's silver-black pupils slowly contracted, revealing a dangerous and icy cold light.
"Work, doctor." Ed said slowly, "It's not about personal grudges, it's all about work, because of business." You have what you hold onto, and I have mine. β
Silent. The two fell into a deathly silence again. Then, a little movement from the rat threw a large stone that could smash the horn of a rhinoceros into ivory into the calm water.
Behind the tithes, on the queen-sized hospital bed that could make the most tossed honeymooners, Pafrensa, who had been covering her mouth and watching the conversation between the two uninvited guests in her room in silence, no longer remained at peace after noticing that the situation had changed somewhat. His other hand, which was hidden under the quilt, moved quietly, and then took advantage of the moment when Tilo's attention was all focused on Ed in the tense atmosphere, suddenly stretched out, took out a pistol and aimed it at Tiji from behind.
This is a mistake, of course. But I don't know whether to say lucky or unlucky, this will not be the last mistake that Mr. Paflorence will make in his life.
As if waiting for him to make this move, Tijlo turned back and grabbed Pafrenza's wrist downward, slamming his arm against the bed. Either by chance or on purpose, the muzzle of the deflected gun was aimed in the direction of Ed in front of him, and Pafrensa's finger had already pulled the trigger down.
"Bang!"
Shots rang out, followed by a terrible scream from Baflorenza. Showing no mercy to him, he snapped his wrist, snatched the gun from his hand, and then grabbed it and turned to aim it at the rear.
But it was too late. Ed had already moved the moment Tilo and Pafrancenza made a move, and the muscles all over his body seemed to condense into a piece at this moment, turning his body into a bullet made of stainless steel, dodging Pafansa's shot at random as he rushed, kicking the pistol in her hand as Shilo turned around, and then slammed his elbow into Shilo's neck.
With a dull thud, Tilo raised his arm to block Ed's elbow, and the two froze at Paflorenza's bed in a wrestling stance, looking into each other's eyes for the first time up close, and smelling each other's bodies.
"Rabid dog." Ed licked his lips.
ββ¦β¦ Wild wolves. Tithe's face was expressionless.
