Verse 366: Old Days (2)
"Why don't you let us in." At the top of another tower, Matilda held a telescope and looked at the buildings in the distance, from which they could not see where the gate was, but could still be used as a lookout, and they could still be there to support them when they retreated.
This was the place Marlin had chosen for them, and Matilda was reluctant to stay here with her sisters.
"Matilda, maybe you can join me in researching what this tower is made of." Jessie was on the side, carefully tapping the platform under their feet with the pickaxe in her hand.
Cross glanced at Jessica, "Why be curious about things that can't be analyzed at all, Jessica, the metal under your feet and I is these wonders that the ancients built with them in the era before the Great Destruction." β
"So what will this platform be? Lighthouse? Or what? Jessica asked curiously, as she continued to tinker with everything beneath her feet.
"Who knows, maybe this platform will be something, or maybe it's just a platform, I don't know what it will do, maybe we will never know." At this point, Cross was suddenly silent, and she held her gun and observed for a moment: "Wait a minute, Matilda, look at what is coming out of the woods, I look like a living corpse, but are they a queue?" β
Hearing Cross's reminder, Matilda raised her binoculars and saw the living corpses coming out of the woodland, they were generally severely distorted, she confirmed and shook her head: "It's not like a queue, but Cross, do you see the tall living corpse, the one that is not distorted." β
"See, the skin is good, but it's really confusing that there is no distortion in the black area, how did it get there." Cross said as she noticed a group of aberrant living corpses running out of sight, and they came to the slippery living corpse.
"They seem to be talking through a roar, I don't know what they're talking about, but I see a living corpse pointing at the building, and they should see that the gate is closed, and it looks like they can't open it...... Wait a minute, one of them is coming. β
"What do they mean? Is there anything we have on this platform? After cloth finished speaking, she turned to look at Jessica, "What's going on?" She saw the sound of machinery, and she heard Jessica's exclamation, which lowered her voice.
"It's empty, I'll pry it open." Jessica said.
Matilda immediately ran over, and she glanced down: "It seems that there is still a room in here...... Wait a minute, quiet. As soon as Matilda finished speaking, Jessica immediately dragged her aside.
There was the sound of heavy breathing of living corpses below.
Cross rolled over, pulled out the small one-handed musket at her waist, and adjusted herself to the very restrained Hu.
Matilda held up the rifle she was leaning against the wall.
Jessica lowered her body and grabbed the pickaxe Marlin had given her.
Eventually, the heavy breathing of the living corpse disappeared below.
Cross was silent for a moment, and pulled a mouse out of her sleeve - it was her pet, not a magic pet, it was nothing more than cannon fodder, and she let the mouse come to the edge of the hole.
At the moment of the mouse's probe, a living corpse hand reached out, grabbed the mouse's slender hand, and dragged its pet down.
Matilda listened to the sound of chewing below, and pointed to the entrance, motioning for Jessica to close it.
Jessica shook her head, saying she couldn't help.
Matilda rolled her eyes.
Then the three girls saw the long, slender hand poking out again, as if trying to find some more food, Jessica stepped back, Matilda leaned against the wall, and Cross stood up cautiously.
The cries of the living corpses were heard below, and the owner of the slender hand withdrew his hand, and it screamed, and then the owner of the footsteps began to leave.
Cross glanced down, "There are living corpses under the platform, did we see the door when we came?" β
"No, but it's clear that living corpses can use tools and even open doors to these ancient buildings, and I always thought they were just monsters." Jessica said, moving away from the gap, "I just touched it with my hand, trying to wipe off the dust and see the lines on it. β
"Maybe the action of wiping is the action of turning on and off." Matilda finished speaking and came to the vicinity, she reached out and wiped it, and then as if something had triggered, the gap began to close.
At the same time, a long, slender hand reached out of the gap and grabbed Matilda's right hand.
Jessica lunged over and grabbed Matilda, grabbing the edge of the platform with one hand and Matilda's left hand with the other.
Cross drew her short sword from her waist and slashed her slender hand with a single sword.
The gap closed, and Matilda looked at the slender hand that was still clutching her, "Damn, it's scratching my skin." β
"Drink the potion." Jessica was the first to say.
"No, what a waste, the living corpses have found us!" Matilda listened to the cries under the platform, took her thin hand off her arm and threw it into her waist bag, then took out a bottle of potion and poured it on the wound: "The wound has not changed color, it should not be poisonous, I don't feel sad, there should be no chaos and blasphemy, the only possibility is the epidemic, but I am immune as a paladin, it's okay, I don't need to worry about it now, the only question now is that they find us here, will it affect Marlin and them." β
"Probably not, they entered the tower below us, maybe just to unlock the gate." As soon as Cross finished speaking, she heard a strange voice from downstairs.
"What sound?" The three girls poked their heads out.
Saw the living corpses climbing up.
"How did they come up so smooth?!" Cross screamed.
And Jessica began to reload: "Ready to fight, girls!" β
"How did it climb up such a smooth faΓ§ade?" After Matilda finished speaking, a question suddenly came to mind: "I need to pour the blazing glue off the platform." β
"It might burn up before then, but it's a good idea, otherwise they can actually climb up and we'll be all done." With that, Cross shoved her own bag of props in front of Matilda, "Go and get started, darling. β
Matilda pulled out a bottle of fiery glue and poured it down.
In the next second, several living corpses that were drenched were set on fire and began to scream and fall.
"Lose it again!" Cross said this while returning to her firing position: "I see that slippery skin! It went to the gate with some living corpses! Damn it! There must be a door opening and closing under our feet! β
