On the third day, the little novice who brought food to the abbot found that no one answered the door, so he found a few senior brothers and officers and soldiers stationed outside the temple, and after a few people pushed the door open, they were surprised to find that the meditation room was empty, not only no one, but even the Amitayus Buddha made of purple gold and bronze did not know where to go.

The officers and soldiers immediately suspected that the abbot had fled with the Buddha statue, but this statement was strongly opposed by the monks in the temple, and the two sides even almost fought over it. Because the abbot was a virtuous and respected monk, the monks naturally did not allow others to humiliate him, let alone accuse him of being a thief who stole for money.

The two sides were at a stalemate, and finally brought the matter to the first emperor. After listening to the cause and effect of the matter, the first emperor said two points: first, he absolutely believed in the personality of the abbot, and believed that he would never do such a thing as stealing chickens and dogs; Second, this matter must be strictly investigated, because the Buddha statue is a birthday gift that he will have time to give out in the future, representing his fist and filial piety, so it must be retrieved no matter what.

Therefore, he personally sent a person to Tianning Temple, and that person was Xu Chong.
