Chapter Seventy-Three: Jiming Temple

Hearing what Chunting said, I couldn't help but look back, on the page that was soaked in water by us, the new content clearly recorded the place where Xiao Yan became a monk, and if I looked closely, it was Tongtai Temple.

It should be that Chunting has also gotten similar news to us from nowhere in the past few days, and he is more direct than us, since he can't figure out the details, he simply went to the field to investigate and see if there are any clues hidden in this thousand-year-old temple.

In this case, we didn't stop long, packed up our things and went to the martial arts hall, called Shen Lang, who was training hard in the martial arts hall, and embarked on a journey back to Jinling.

On the bus to Jinling, I flipped through the ancient books that Ling Yan had specially found from the Lingyun Pagoda, and carefully searched for the records of Tongtai Temple.

There are 480 temples in the Southern Dynasties, and how many buildings are in the smoke and rain.

Due to the prosperity of Buddhism in the Southern Dynasty, the emperor advocated Buddhism and built a lot of temple towers, and the wind of building temples and towers was particularly prosperous after concubines and princesses, so the temples of the Southern Dynasty were numerous, and most of the people who built them with wood were the majority, and most of the Buddhist temples were in the capital Jinling.

It is a pity that after the war, the Buddhist temple of that year is now not one of a hundred, the descendants collected the books, and learned that the exact verifiable Buddhist temple of the Southern Dynasty is more than 200, but the other nameless, do not see the record of countless people.

The temple architecture of the Southern Dynasties, in addition to the consistent shape of the front tower and the apse, its biggest feature is the placement of the twin towers and relics. Among them, Jiming Temple and Qixia Temple are more famous.

There are stone tablets and stone towers such as the stone carving statue of a thousand Buddhas and the stele of Ming Zhengjun in Qixia Temple, its style is beautiful and elegant, different from the statue of Yungang Grottoes in the Northern Dynasty, it is the stone carving statue art that is only seen in the Southern Dynasty, and it is also an important Buddhist historical site in China.

Jiming Temple is located in the eastern foot of Jilong Mountain, also known as the ancient Jiming Temple, was built in the Western Jin Dynasty, since ancient times, it has the reputation of "the first temple of the Southern Dynasty", "the first temple of the Southern Dynasty", the first temple of the Southern Dynasty, and is the Buddhist center of China during the Southern Dynasties.

And the Tongtai Temple we are going to is the predecessor of the Jiming Temple.

In the first year of Datong, that is, in 527 AD, Emperor Xiao Yan of Liang Wu ordered to build a temple next to the palace, this is the Tongtai Temple we are going to, the foundation of the temple is dug very deep, touching the underground spring, up the tower of 90 zhang, for the nine-layer floating map, every night is quiet, the sound of the bell is ten miles. Since Buddhism was introduced to the Central Plains, the tower temple has never existed. Xiao Yan is the respect of the emperor, but he also sacrificed himself to Buddhism, "Sound Law Enlightenment" cloud, Emperor Liang preached the scriptures in Tongtai Temple, and the Han Emperor placed wine in Weiyang Palace, this text is very beautiful, but the price is very heavy.

In March of this year, Emperor Wu of Liang went to Tongtai Temple in person, took off his imperial clothes, put on his robes, and lived in the temple as the emperor's monk, this stay was ten days, so anxious that his subordinates had no choice, so they had to raise money to donate to Tongtai Temple, the price reached 100 million yuan, three please, Xiao Yan was too much of a monk addiction, and drove back to the palace.

Two years later, Emperor Wu of Liang held a Buddhist ceremony in Tongtai Temple, the "Four Uncovered Conferences". After worshipping the Buddha, he committed the addiction of being a monk again, and preached the "Nirvana Sutra" in Tongtai Temple for seven days, and on the second day of November, he preached the "Prajna Sutra" for seven days.

On the night of Xiao Yan's fourth redemption from Tongtai Temple, a fire suddenly broke out in Tongtai Temple, and the ruthless fire burned down the pagoda.

Xiao Yan issued an edict, he said that the higher it is, the more powerful the demons will be, and there will definitely be obstacles to doing good deeds, so the pagoda should be rebuilt and the new pagoda should be built twice as tall as the old pagoda in order to suppress the devil.

He recruited a large number of monks and nuns to come here to do things, gave them high-quality vegetarian food, consumed tens of thousands of catties of incense and candles, recited Buddhist scriptures devoutly for a few days, and asked the ministers to burn incense and kowtow with him, and also sent a large number of craftsmen to go up the mountain to quarry stones and cut trees, and spent countless sums of money in an attempt to build a twelve-story tower. However, before the new tower was completed, he was detained due to the Hou Jing Rebellion, and finally starved to death in Jiankang Taicheng.

Legend has it that the pavilions and halls of Tongtai Temple are complete, and the nine-level floating map towers into the clouds. Emperor Wu of Liang once came to confess in person, gave up his body in this temple, and set up the Dharma meeting such as the uncovered assembly, and ascended to the Dharma seat, preached Nirvana, Prajna and other scriptures, and later cast the golden bronze statue of the Buddha of the Ten Directions in this temple.

It's a pity that this temple has long been out of the past with the fire, Liang died Chen Xing, the temple became a ruin, until the Hongwu period, there was a change.

In the twentieth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, ordered the old house to be demolished, the scale expanded, and the temple was rebuilt. Zhu Yuanzhang's royal pen inscription is "Jiming Temple", after the Ming Xuande, Chenghua, Hongzhi years of expansion, the courtyard is large-scale, covers an area of more than 100 acres, although the scale has been greatly reduced, but the incense has been vigorous.

Emperor Liang preached the scriptures with the Tai Temple, and the Han Emperor placed the wine Weiyang Palace.

Although we have not been able to witness the grandeur of that year, since we can compare it with Weiyang Palace, we can roughly guess how gorgeous and majestic this temple was back then.

Looking at the records in this ancient book, I fell asleep in the car unconsciously, and with Qi Zhi gently pushing my arm, I opened my eyes and saw that in front of my eyes was the destination of our trip, Jiming Temple.

Watching from a distance, there are six large halls in this Jiming Temple, more than ten small halls, a nine-story pagoda, a seven-storey big Buddha pavilion, enshrined ten square gold statues and ten square silver statues, the whole temple is built according to the royal regulations, the scale is large, the gold is brilliant, although it has not yet entered the temple, but it can already be imagined in the mind that Xiao Yan presided over the grand occasion of the "four uncovered conferences" here.

Since it has been here, it is better to enter the temple than to look at it from the outside, everyone follows the flow of people who come and go to the incense Buddha into the temple, and finds that although the temple is no longer the grand occasion of the Southern Dynasty, there are still the main buildings of the Daxiong Treasure Palace, Guanyin Building, Wei Dao Palace, Zhi Cemetery, Tibetan Scripture Building, Buddha Hall, Medicine Master Pagoda, etc., the Daxiong Treasure Hall enshrines the Three Treasure Buddhas, the outer mountain gate, the three major pavilions, the bell and drum tower, the Zen room and so on are majestic and towering, so that people can not help but have the feeling of worshipping here.

The place is too big, everyone can no longer distinguish between the southeast and the northwest after a while, Ling Xuan let us rest for a while, he went alone to ask the monk in charge of cleaning the courtyard in the temple, after a while, I saw him return dejectedly, it seems that there is no gain.

He returned to us, looked at us, and said in a dejected voice.

"I just asked, this Jiming Temple was destroyed by fire, and now the entire Jiming Temple that we can see is all rebuilt by later generations, even if Xiao Yan and Chen Qingzhi had some connection here, they have long been burned with the fire, did we run in vain?"

Chunting was not discouraged at all, he looked at me meaningfully, and asked in his mouth.

"Han Chuan, you have been reading the records about Jiming Temple on the way here, what do you think of what Ling Xuan said?"

I scratched my head and said angrily.

"What can you think, after the Tongtai Temple was burned down, Xiao Yan was imprisoned by Hou Jing, and the Tongtai Temple was abandoned until the twentieth year of Hongwu, and Zhu Yuanzhang of the Ming Dynasty began to order the rebuilding of the temple. His royal pen title is "Jiming Temple", and then expanded during the Ming Xuande, Chenghua and Hongzhi years, that is to say, the Jiming Temple in front of us has been rebuilt several rounds anyway, where there will be hidden information in the year. ”

Chunting nodded my forehead and spoke in disappointment.

"Elm head, who did you say that this Jiming Temple was rebuilt?"

I looked at Chunting and spoke slowly, my tone full of disbelief.

"Zhu Yuanzhang, Hongwu has been twenty years ......"

I suddenly realized that Zhu Yuanzhang, a dignified emperor of a generation, how could he easily do such a thing of rebuilding the temples of the previous dynasty, I think it was someone who instructed him to have such intentions.

And if someone can order Zhu Yuanzhang, who is the emperor, so that Zhu Yuanzhang willingly rebuild this Tongtai Temple, after so much experience, we happen to know one person.

Spring is always in the spring!
