Three Snake Leaves
Once upon a time there was a poor man who was so poor that he could not even support his own son. The son said to him, "Good father, we are having a bad time now, and I am a burden to you." I want to leave the house now and see if I can earn something to eat. ”
His father blessed him, and then sent him out of the house in grief. At this time, the king of a powerful empire was at war with people, so he joined the king's troops and went to the front to fight. He arrived at the front just in time for the fierce battle, and the situation was very critical, and his comrades fell in a hail of enemy bullets. When the commander was also killed, the rest tried to flee, but the young man stood up and shouted to them with boldness: "We must not let our country perish!" So the others followed him and led him to defeat the enemy. When the king learned that this victory was all on his own, he elevated him to the highest position, gave him much wealth, and made him at once the most prominent man in the country.
The king had a daughter, who was very beautiful but had a very strange temper, and she only promised to marry a man who promised to be buried alive by her side when she died. "If this man truly loves me," she said, "what is the use of him living after I die?" The reverse is true for her. If her husband died first, she was willing to be buried in the grave with him.
Her strange vows frightened the people who never proposed to her, but the young man, captivated by the princess's beauty, begged the king to marry his daughter to him.
"Do you know what kind of commitment you're going to make?" The king asked.
"If I had lived longer than her, I would have to make a funeral for her," he replied, "but I love her so much that I don't care about the danger." The king agreed, and they had a great wedding.
The young couple lived happily ever after for a while, when his wife suddenly fell seriously ill, and none of the doctors could cure her. When she died, her young husband remembered his promise and was terrified to know that he would be locked up alive in the grave, but there was nothing else he could do. The king had set up sentry posts at the gates of the palace, so there was no way he could escape this fate. On the day of the burial of the body, he was also brought into the royal tomb, and then the door of the tomb was closed, and the latch was attached.
Next to the coffin was a table with four candles, four loaves of bread, and four bottles of wine. When these things are consumed, he will starve to death. He sat there in great pain and sorrow, eating only a little bread and drinking only a sip of wine every day, but death was still closing in on him day by day.
As he sat there in distraction, he saw a snake emerge from the corner of the tomb and crawl towards the dead body. He thought that the serpent was going to bite her flesh, so he drew his sword and said, "As long as I live, you will not touch her." Then he cut the snake into three pieces.
After a while, another snake crawled out of the hole. When it saw that the first snake had been cut into three pieces and was dead, it crawled back. But after a while it crawled out again, with three green leaves in its mouth. Then, it put the three pieces of the dead snake together, covering each wound with a leaf. In an instant, several parts of the broken snake grew together again. The snake came back to life after a few movements, and then fled with the second snake, while the three leaves were left on the ground.
The unfortunate young man, who had witnessed all this, suddenly had an idea: I wonder if the magic of these leaves that revived the dead snake could save people too. So he picked up the leaf, put one on his deceased wife's mouth, and put the other two on her eyes. As soon as he placed the leaf away, blood began to flow through her veins, slowly surging up her pale cheeks, turning crimson again. Then she took a breath, opened her eyes, and said, "Oh God, where am I?" ”
"You are with me, dear wife," he replied, and told her all that had happened, and how he had revived her. He gave her some wine and some bread. When she regained her strength, he helped her to her feet and walked to the door of the tomb, knocking and shouting.
When the guards heard this, they went to report to the king. The king himself came to open the door of the tomb and found them healthy and full of vitality, and could not help but rejoice that the sad thing was finally over. The young man took out the three snake leaves, gave them to one of his attendants, and said, "Take care of them for me, and keep them with you at all times." Who knows what trouble we'll have? Maybe we'll need them again! ”
But his wife has changed, and she seems to have completely lost her love for her husband after she came back from the dead. After some time, the young man wanted to cross the sea to see his old father. As soon as they were on board, she forgot the deep love and loyalty that her husband had shown to her, and the grace he had shown to her to save her life, and became obsessed with the captain in disgust.
One day, when the young man was asleep, she called the captain and took her husband's head by herself, and the captain grabbed him by the feet, and together they threw him into the sea. After doing this shameful deed, she said, "Now that we go back, we will say that he died on the way." I will praise you greatly before my father, and praise you, so that he will agree to marry me to you, and to make you heir to the throne. ”
But the faithful attendant had seen it all in secret. He untied a small boat from the big ship, and sat down to find his master, not caring where the two bad fellows were going. He scooped up the young man's body from the water and put the three snake leaves he was carrying on his eyes and mouth, and luckily saved him.
They rowed day and night, and the boat sailed like a fly, until they returned to the old king's palace before the others. The old king was naturally surprised to see them come back alone, and asked what had happened. When he heard about his daughter's abominable deeds, he said, "I don't believe she would do such a despicable thing, but soon the truth will come out." He ordered them to hide in a secret room and not let anyone see them.
Soon the ship sailed back, and the shameless woman came to see her father with a sad face. The old king asked, "Why did you come back alone?" What about your husband? ”
"Alas, dear father," she replied, "my heart will break." My husband suddenly fell ill and died on the way, and if it weren't for the help of this kind captain, I would have been miserable! He was there when my husband died, and he could tell you everything. ”
The king said, "I will raise the dead!" So saying, he opened the chamber and called the master and servant out.
When the woman saw her husband, she fell to her knees as if she had been struck by thunder and begged for forgiveness. The king said, "There can be no forgiveness!" He is willing to die with you and save you, but you deserve to kill him while he is asleep. ”
She and her accomplices were then placed in a boat with a hole in it. The ship was pushed overboard and soon sank in the rough waves.
