Chapter 2 A New Home and a New Life

In December 1998, my parents successively moved the sewing machine, iron, table, cabinet, washing machine, bamboo bed and wooden bed to their new home. The hall has a hanging screen, above is the Huangguoshu Waterfall, as soon as the power is plugged in, it seems that there is water flowing down, and a large lamp is hung in the center of the hall, and the dazzling diamonds are shining.

The eldest sister seems to prefer the side where she used to live, maybe the neighbor over there has a TV, and she wants to watch it. Every time I tune to Hunan TV, but this Hunan TV is very difficult to adjust, and sometimes I can't turn it out after turning it around several times, and I don't watch the TV. In addition to a lot of books, there are also postcards of Huanzhu Gegege, and I really like the one she pasted on the bedside, on which is the little swallow crape myrtle and the golden lock.

On the day of the housewarming, many guests came to the house, and groups came to admire our house, looking at the past from room to room. Our new home is at the southwest end of a slope, with no neighbors and mountains on three sides. The east side is against the tea mountain, the northwest is the bamboo forest and our vegetable garden and a slope, the west is someone else's tea field, about half a floor high, the tea field goes down the west ladder, and there are several neighbors on the flat land. There is a section of the mountain to the south that is ours, and some vegetables are grown. To the north is a large open space.

The house type is like a number 7, 7 has two horizontal rooms, a total of 3 floors, the first one is the kitchen, the outside is not plastered with cement, from a distance, it is red. The second floor is the bedroom, where I sleep, and the smell downstairs is the first to bear the brunt, and it is impossible not to get up early, so I live in this one. The third floor is for drying clothes, which is more ventilated. The inner room is dry and cool, the next floor is my sister's bedroom, the first floor is for vegetables, etc., hanging chickens and ducks, very shady, and there is a stove like the kitchen. The kitchen is beautifully decorated, with tiles on all sides and the stove, gas benches and cabinets. The windows are facing west and the light is exceptional. But the stove has just been built, so we can't use it immediately, otherwise the tiles will fall off, so we will temporarily use the temporary stove in one of the rooms. There are also two rooms in the vertical of the 7 characters, a total of 2 floors, the first floor is the hall and the firewood room, and the middle of the two rooms is the arch of the road, which is not separated. One above the hall, next to my sister's bedroom is my mother's bedroom, when moving the beauty dream, the bed is particularly convenient to hang directly from the corridor on the second floor, and the south one is the last room, and the guests live.

Overall, the first floor eats, the second floor sleeps, and the third floor is stocked. The large balcony on the second floor is the size of 2 rooms. There is no staircase to the platform on the third floor of the large balcony, and you can only climb it by borrowing a bamboo ladder. There are no railings on the stairs, so be careful when going up and down the stairs. The balcony also has no railings, so we rarely go to play on it.

The house is not completely renovated. There is no cement on the outside, there are only 4 rooms with cement on the walls, the kitchen, the hall and the bedroom of my sister and mother on the second floor, and only the bedroom on the first floor and my mother are plastered with cement on the ground, and the others are uneven stones. Since there was no cement inside or out, the rooms on the west and south sides were cold in winter and hot in summer. When there is a typhoon, the walls will seep water, and the two rooms in the corridor on the second floor are even worse, the wind is blowing, and the doors and windows are blown out. When you enter the house, you don't dare to come out, otherwise you will get drenched. It's really strange that I'm still getting wet when I get home. The kitchen is estimated to be the worst part of the typhoon day. Rainwater flows down the hallway, down the stairs to the kitchen. The wind poured down from the chimney into the kitchen, filling the stove with ash all over the sky. We can endure the smoke and burn the fire, but if it's cold, a gust of wind can turn your face full of ash, and no one can stand the darkness. simply blocked the stove with a plastic bag and waited for the limelight to pass.

These were discovered after the first typhoon, but we did not make any rectifications and stayed up for 10 years. After all, when this house was designed, it was neither summer nor winter, let alone typhoon days. We were all busy visiting and having fun at the same time.

When the housewarming, the beggar "Ayin" who came to the door to beg for wine every time the village had a drink also came, and without him, he always felt that there was something missing from the wedding banquet. Ayin was in charge of burning an oil drum pot outside, and he carried a bag full of hanging bottles waiting to fill the wine. Normally, if we want to make him angry, we just call him "crackle", and when he hears us curse his bottle, he will definitely scream and limp after us. But I don't want to make him sad and angry today, he can help a lot by boiling water here.

Mom popped popcorn with new rice and arranged for us to put handkerchiefs in cups and Coke under each round table. After the feast was over, we would pick up the beer caps everywhere to see if it was "thank you for tasting" or "another bottle", and give the winning one to Dad, and when he wanted to use it, he would let us go to the street to exchange beers.

It's nice to be in a new home, and if Dad isn't at home, we can run around unscrupulously and make a lot of noise. My mother hated us arguing, so she asked my eldest sister in the fourth grade to teach my second sister and me to read, and set up a small class in the hall. Chinese and mathematics in the morning, music and art in the afternoon. Ducks who love to play in the water always stir up the pond in front of the door, and there is mud everywhere, so we drive them to the nearby paddy fields to play, and then take the opportunity to fly away, so that people can find them. Such an uneasy duck was almost killed later, and the duck feathers were packed in a big bag. The roosters of the lover are also not careful, and they are fenced out of the yard, and sometimes they take the opportunity to run into the hall, and we have to take care of the aftermath and then catch their own nests.

After the first beautiful Spring Festival, my sisters started to go to school, and my father was busy with brick factories and farm work, and he was very busy. Later, my grandmother also came to the house to help watch my brother for a while. I can follow my dad to the mountains to catch tadpoles, frogs, blackberries and berries in the fields, dig up some small flowers and plant them at home, or play Trojan horses with my brother at home.

On weekends, the most interesting, especially before and after Qingyin, our three sisters went to peel bamboo hoops together, which was bamboo shells. Our Fujian is the hometown of bamboo, and we are full of fragrant concubine bamboo, and the bamboo basket can be used to wrap zongzi.

The eldest sister took a long bamboo pole and we put on water shoes. It is best to go in the evening, otherwise the morning dew is just after the dew, and the bamboo branches are full of water droplets. As soon as you shake it, the cold dew will definitely come down. If the second sister provoked me at that time, I would have waited by a bent bamboo, and when she came, I would kick the bamboo to make sure she screamed. If you go in the evening, you don't have to worry about your companions cheating. Sometimes there are bamboo hoops that have just fallen on the ground, or those that have fallen for a day, and this kind of picking up can be used. Most of it is to be peeled from the beads. If it's too tender, it can't be torn off, and it needs to protect the bamboo. You can't ask for cracked ones, and you can't wrap zongzi. Peel off a little bit of the bamboo hoop, and pick it up with a long bamboo pole along the place where it is raised, and it will come down. Each of us picks 10 of them, and two or three times is enough.

When it comes to the Dragon Boat Festival, it's fun. My mother would give each of us a mothball, and we would learn from her to use a rope to catch the mothball, tie it in a knot, and hang it around our necks. The mothballs will slowly get smaller, and before they are about to fall out of the mesh, we will put it in the closet with the string, and after a few days, it will disappear.

When making zongzi, we helped my mother cut the rope, red and green, and made different marks. Tie four or five knots together and hang them on a pole. Then one of them was in charge of lighting the fire, and when the mother had wrapped the seeds, she would put them in the pot one by one, and put them up, and then take a pot and buckle it on top, and use cloth on all sides. Steam it for an afternoon and you can eat it. After steaming, take a pair of chopsticks and plug it, and you can go for a walk.

On weekends, my mother asked my eldest sister and me or Yufang to bring zongzi to see my grandmother. It takes a long day to walk to Camphor Camphor. Fortunately, every time my grandmother would cook a bowl of splash eggs and add a lot of sugar to replenish our energy, otherwise I would have eaten the zongzi in my stomach first.

As long as my sisters are on vacation, it's fun, otherwise, I can't remember what I'm doing every day. As soon as they have their summer vacation, we will go down to the mountains or go to the reservoir to collect firewood. The general distribution of the house in the township is like the number 3, the end of the 3 is the grandmother's house, the middle is the mountain, the upper part of the 3 is the house in the township, alone looks like a U-shaped opening to the left, we live across the canyon from the residents opposite. The place where the two sides are connected is the bus drop-off place, and nearby are terraced rice fields. We have a few pieces of heaven and earth there. After the terraced bay, the terrain turns sharply to the east, and it is all cedar forests, and it takes 40 minutes to walk along the mountain road to reach the table under the ridge. When we arrived at the table under the ridge, I found out that we were really landlords. From the ridge head, go down the middle path, there are fields on the left and right, and there are about 20 ladders. When I arrived at the last ladder, I looked at the mountain ridge and realized that this was really a ridge under the table, the terrain was quite low, and it would take a lot of effort to climb home in the evening. There are small streams on the left and right sides of the mountains, but there are plenty of water sources and beautiful scenery.

Ascending the reservoir can overlook the entire countryside and listen to the water in the reservoir. However, when I was very young, I was afraid to go to these two places alone. The reservoir is said to have Japanese devils, and the ridge under the table is infested with wild boars. Once, I followed my eldest sister to the reservoir to pick up the branches of the thorny cedar to make firewood, and my sister wanted to move, but I didn't want to leave, she pointed to the top of the cedar tree and said, "Have you seen the wind blowing through the branches of the cedar tree, I heard that the cedar trees here used to be full of Japanese devils." You'd better come with me. "Every time I go to the reservoir, my family is not next to me, and I feel furious, and even now I don't believe it, even in broad daylight, if I go there alone, I am still afraid.

As for the table ridge, it was my mother's doing. Once she saw a field arched by a wild boar and muttered, "Oh, that thing is here again." "I asked her what it was, and she wouldn't say. I was suspicious, and my back was cold. Later, I slowly listened to the whiteness, and what she said was a wild boar. Because once there was a man on the street who sold wild boar, and they all bought it and ate it, and that's what it was called. Everyone is afraid of this thing, put a device where there is water on the mountain, use the kinetic energy of the water to knock out the sound to drive it, and where there is wind, put poles everywhere, hang clothes, plastic bags, whirring, dancing with the wind. There were scarecrows in the shade, tooth clips in the dark, and hunters beat them, and even once, I witnessed the whole village surrounding a wild boar, which ran around, injured people, and hid in a hole, and everyone did not dare to go in, and did not want to leave. I looked cruel and left. Now I'm not afraid of this thing, and I'm not afraid of reading its name and making a taboo, but the table is far away, if you go alone, it's very lonely, and because someone has a grave there, it's inexplicably terrible, this is all later.

In addition to the original land, Dad will also develop new places. Probably the whole mountain belongs to us, but some places are still wasteland, not ladder by ladder, and Dad has to use a hoe to level it little by little. First burn a fire, and then start moving the earth to build the field wall, otherwise the field will collapse and it will be meaningless, and the crops below will be destroyed. If you want to make a paddy field, put some water and mud to build the ridge, and use a hoe to smooth the three sides of the ridge. After the water is almost filled, wait one night to see if there are any leaks. If not, you can dig a small hole. The upper ladder leads water into the field, and after the position of the gap, it flows to the lower ladder, which is very smooth and self-contained. In spring, the mountains are full of seedlings, sit at the head of the ridge and enjoy it, their terraces only see a piece of water, the ridge is clearly visible, outlining the shape of the field, the arc of the mountain. Looking at the mountain opposite, you can see the white water flowing connecting the terraces, one ladder after another, which is very beautiful. If it is a rainy day, hold an umbrella, stand at the head of the ridge and look, the stream is more cheerful sound, the sound of the rain hitting the umbrella seems to be the white water flow in the opposite field, there is sound and scenery, it is like another "Huangguoshu Waterfall".

After the summer vacation, the campus life I had always dreamed of began, although the first day of school was not very satisfactory.
