Chapter 9: Temples
Boss Ye and I quietly pushed open the hidden door and stepped into the temple. As soon as I walked in, I suddenly felt a smell of agarwood with a vintage, and I unconsciously closed my eyes and immersed myself in such a wonderful smell.
At first, when Boss Ye and I found out that this was a temple, we were still puzzled, and even guessed whether there were still people living in it. Then, it was the smell of agarwood that drew us in.
"The two donors were attracted by this agarwood, right?"
Hearing the sound, I slowly opened my eyes and found an old monk in a robe standing in front of me.
The old monk was kind and kind-eyed, holding a string of Bodhi Buddha beads in his left hand, standing in one hand with his right hand, and chanting Buddhist scriptures and other things in his mouth.
"Well, yes, what, I passed by and found it smelly, so I walked in." Boss Ye said, "What, let's find someone." β
"Looking for someone? There's no one here, it's just me, I don't know who you're looking for? The old monk bowed slightly, and the Bodhi in his left hand did not turn.
I thought that Boss Ye's impolite remarks offended the old monk, and I was about to change my words, but I saw the old monk's eyes suddenly widen and stare at me.
"Uh...... What's going on? Confused, I turned my head to look behind me, but there was no one behind me. When I turned my head again, I found that the old monk was still staring at me.
No, staring at my backpack to be exact?
"Uh...... Nothing in this bag? I was in a hurry to go out, and I didn't bring any money. "I'm a little nervous, is it possible that the old monk still needs me to donate some incense money?
"Donor, do you think I look like a money-grubber? It's just that the poor monk saw that you were carrying some ominous things in your bag, if it weren't for the donor's special physique, I am afraid that you would not be disturbed by this bad thing......" The old monk said, his eyes narrowed again, and the Buddhist beads in his hand also turned again, "Donor, can you tell the poor monk what you are carrying in your backpack?" β
"What? Something in my backpack? I deliberately sold it and laughed, "Maybe there's an umbrella in there, and a lantern." β
I did stuff the lantern that Miss Jiang gave me into my backpack. As for umbrellas, it's because I've heard that umbrellas are also a "bad thing" - I'm just messing around anyway.
I took the lantern out of my backpack and put it back on my back.
The old monk didn't ask about it again, and turned his gaze to the lantern in my hand.
"Hey, I said, old fellow, you're so big here, you're the only one?" Boss Ye took the opportunity to roar.
I was shocked by his voice, and it was strange that the old monk could not move at all.
"Donor, if you speak rudely and rudely again, the Buddha will drive you out."
"Hey, you old monk still call yourself Buddha?"
Seeing that Boss Ye was getting more and more up, I hurriedly pulled him: "Hey, hey, the land of Buddhism, the meaning is enough, don't go overboard." β
After grabbing Boss Ye, I turned to the monk and said, "Abbot, my friend's personality is like this, forgive me, forgive me." β
When the monk heard this, he snorted coldly, and his frowning brows gradually relaxed.
Seeing this, Boss Ye turned his face away and muttered in a low voice: "The old guy let us stand here for so long, and he didn't let us in, and he was still playing ...... here."
Hearing this, I quickly coughed twice......
"If it weren't for the fact that you have the lantern of the ginger benefactor, the old man wouldn't let you make a noise here. That's it, let's come in. The old monk said, turned around and walked towards the temple.
Seeing this, I hurriedly dragged Boss Ye to follow. When he was about to reach the temple, the old monk suddenly turned around and said, "Put your backpack on the door and hang it, don't bring it in." β
"Why?" I'm a little weird.
"You have evil things in your bag, bring them in, and the Buddha will be furious." The old monk stood at the door of the temple, obviously if I didn't put my backpack at the door, he wouldn't let us in.
"Hey, hey, you monk is greedy......"
Seeing that Boss Ye was about to get angry again, I hurriedly grabbed him and said, "Okay, I'll just put my backpack outside." β
I took off my backpack and took out my phone and other items from it while looking inside the temple.
There is a huge Buddha statue in the middle of the temple, and the Buddha statue is staring at its big eyes at this time, looking at the entrance of the temple, which is where Boss Ye and I are now.
I shudder for some reason. When I hurriedly hung my backpack on the door, the strange feeling disappeared.
"Alright, come in." That's why the old monk let us in.
Or warm in the temple. I shook my rain-soaked coat and tried to take it off, but I didn't know where to put it, so I had to give up.
"Ah Hao? Do you ever feel that someone is staring at you? Why do I always feel like someone is watching me? "Boss Ye sneakily leaned over to me.
"You don't look at what's on top of your head, but I'm not as nervous as you, by the way, didn't you just make a fuss at the door?" I was joking on purpose.
"How is that possible? I was a rebellious boy who didn't believe in ghosts or gods, nor in people. It's all my heart......" Boss Ye comforted himself and slowly sat back down.
I looked around the temple, and the facilities were so poor that I couldn't find a second intact table other than the one with the Buddha statue in the middleβthe large remaining table, now leaning against the corner, and also had a broken leg.
For the rest, the chairs are gone, and at the moment, Boss Ye and I are sitting on the cushions on the ground.
And the old monk has disappeared since just now, and he doesn't know where he went.
"Did you see where he just went?" I asked Boss Ye.
"I seem to have gone out through that side door, and I don't know what I'm going to do." Boss Ye muttered and pointed to a door behind the Buddha statue.
The door was half obscured by the Buddha statue, and if you didn't look closely, you really didn't know that there was a door behind it.
I was looking at the door, and suddenly a foul smell came from nowhere, so I quickly covered my nose and stood up: "Why is it so stinky?" β
I looked left and right, but I couldn't find the source of the smell. As a result, as soon as I turned around, I saw Boss Ye leaning against the wall, struggling to take off his socks. Needless to say, the source of the smell is none other than those steaming socks!
"Boss Ye, your socks are really awesome!" I covered my nose and said, "I can smell your socks from so far away!" β
Boss Ye's hand trembled, and the other sock that he had just taken off didn't hold it firmly and fell to the ground. Then, he picked up the socks and smiled at me: "No way, wet socks make my feet uncomfortable." Hey hey ......"
I rolled my eyes and picked up the mat from the floor, ready to find a place a little further away to sit down.
Just at this time, the old monk walked out of the inner room with a steaming incense burner. As soon as he entered the hall, his brow furrowed, his mouth opened, and he was about to speak, when he looked to the left and saw me holding the mat and preparing to walk towards him. Looking to the right, I saw Boss Ye in the corner of the wall whistling as if he was fine, but there was a slippery piece on his feet, and he suddenly understood.
"You ...... Ay...... I have been in the temple for so many years, and it is the first time I have seen you like this......" The old monk shook his head and put the incense burner on the ground, "Come around to keep warm......"
Hearing this, I snickered and grabbed the mat I had just put down, and ran over. Boss Ye in the corner of the wall smiled, slipped his shoes, and sat down barefoot.
"It's okay, it's okay, old monk, you are also doing good deeds in front of the Buddha, the Buddha will protect you, what is it earlier, what is it......" Boss Ye smiled, and put his foot under the incense burner, completely ignoring the surprised expressions of me and the old monk.
"It's so comfortable~" With a long sigh from Boss Ye, a smell of roasted rotten eggs filled the air, even the spices in the incense burner and the smell of agarwood inside and outside the house could not cover the smell.
I looked at the old monk and saw his helpless face. After a while, he said slowly: "It's a blessing or a curse, you can't avoid it, what should come will always come." Alas......"
"I don't know what the abbot means by that?" I asked rhetorically.
But I saw that the old monk looked up at the outside of the house and said a Zen saying: "The eye is a piece of sky, neither extravagant nor greedy." Don't be greedy for what's in your backpack. β
"How so? I ...... in my backpack, "I paused, thinking that this monk has always been adamant that there is something in my backpack, I am afraid that I would know what is in my backpack, and I will lie again, it is not interesting, right?"
So, I changed my words: "I naturally understand the danger of this thing, and I ask the abbot not to hang it up, not to mention it." β
"Forget it, what should come will come, donor, you bring that thing in." As the monk spoke, he stopped talking and began to close his eyes and chant the scriptures.
Seeing this, I didn't ask too much, and hurriedly got up and brought back the backpack hanging outside.
Just as I was putting the things back in my backpack one by one, a voice came from outside the temple gate: "Abbot, abbot, abbot is here, we have come to see you!" Then came the knock on the door.
"Ah Hao, are you familiar with this person? Why didn't I remember the sound, and still here? Boss Ye didn't even buckle his feet at this time, and just turned his head to stare in the direction of the door.
I was about to speak, but the abbot stretched out a hand and stopped me. Then he got up and walked towards the door, and said, "Go into the inner room, and you will not be able to cope with these people who have come." And nine times out of ten, they're coming at you. β
"What, what's the call to come to us, I'm here, is there anyone else looking for us?" Boss Ye rolled up his sleeves and stood up suddenly.
But in the next second, I saw him fall straight to the ground.
"Drag him into the inner room, what a mistake......" The abbot slowly lowered his hand after chanting the Buddha's name, turned around and walked out the door.
Just as I dragged Boss Ye into the inner room, there was a loud "bang" outside.
I took the opportunity to glance outside. I saw that the gate of the temple had fallen to the ground, and several figures were pouring in from outside......
