Three Spinning Girls
Once upon a time there was a girl who was very lazy and didn't want to spin anything.
Finally, one day, my mother felt that she could not bear it anymore and beat her, and she began to cry. Just as the queen passed by the door in her chariot, heard the crying, ordered the chariot to stop, and went into the house to ask the mother why she had beaten her daughter. The mother was embarrassed to tell her how lazy her daughter was, so she replied, "I told her not to spin anymore, but she just wouldn't listen, and she kept spinning on the spinning wheel." I'm poor, how can I afford so much flax. β
The queen listened and said, "I love spinning the most." Let your daughter go into the palace with me, for I have linen, and she can spin as much as she wills. β
When the mother heard this, she was glad in her heart, and said yes, and the queen took the girl away.
When they had reached the palace, the queen led the girl upstairs and showed her the three storehouses, which were filled with the finest linen. "Well, spin these flax for me," said the queen, "and when you are done spinning, marry my firstborn." β
The girl was horrified when she heard thisβeven if she spun every day from morning to night, when she was three hundred years old, she would never have spun so much flax. When the girl was left alone, she began to cry. She sat crying and weeping, and three days had passed, and she had not yet started spinning. On the third day, the girl did not know what to do, and came to the window worriedly. Just then she saw three women approaching: the first woman had a wide and flat foot; The lower lip of the second is long and droops down to the chin; And the third one has a very wide thumb. The three women stopped under the window and asked the girl why she was worried, and she told them about her distress.
"As long as you don't disgrace us," said they to the girl, "invite us to your wedding, say that we are your cousins, and let us drink wine at the same table with you, and we will help you finish spinning the linen." β
"I'm more than happy to." The girl replied.
With that, the girl let the three strange-looking women into the house. As soon as they came in, they sat down and began spinning. Every time the queen came, the girl, fearing that the queen would find out, hid the three spinners and let the queen see the yarn that had been spun. When the queen saw it, she was full of praise for her.
When all the linen in the storehouse had been spun, the three weavers said goodbye to the girl, and before leaving, they said to her, "Do not forget the promise you made to us, it is about your own happiness." β
The girl led the queen to see the three empty storehouses and the piles of yarn that looked like hills, and the queen arranged for the wedding.
"I have three cousins," said the girl, "and they treat me very well. When I was happy myself, I didn't want to be indifferent to them. Allow me to invite them to the wedding and let them sit with us at the wedding reception. β
The queen and prince readily agreed. On the day of the wedding, the three spinners came. They were dressed up in strange shapes, which was very funny. The bride immediately greeted her and said, "Welcome, dear cousins. β
"Why are your cousins so ugly?" The prince asked. Then he turned to the woman with big feet and asked, "How can one of your feet be so big?" β
"Spinning wheels." She replied.
The bridegroom walked up to the second woman and asked, "Why are your lips drooping?" β
"Lick the twine." She replied.
Then he asked the third woman, "How can your thumb be so wide?" β
"Twist the twine." She replied.
The prince was astonished at what they answered, and said, "My beautiful bride will never touch the spinning wheel again." β
In this way, the girl no longer had to dry spin the nasty work.
